Help 4 son.7 years. Discoid Eczema

Hi all,

My son is 7.9 years of age. He has suffered from eczema since he was 3 months old. It developed into a form of eczema called discoid eczema.

This type of eczema shows as discrete coin-shaped patches and usually affects the arms and legs. It occurs in round scaly patches and is incredibly itchy.

My son has it on his inner thighs, and the patches are red and weeping, but sometimes become dry and scaly. Then, my son scratches it so much that these patches eventually bleed and become weepy again.

My son is tall for his age, slim, with fair creamy skin which is quite dry. He is a very bright boy, talkative, but temperamental- very challenging and inquisitive. He enjoys eating all foods, particularly pastas cheeses, and spicy foods.

We tried homeopethy at the age of 3, which helped enormously, but since the age of 6, it has returned with a vengance. I tried to contact the homeopath but he no longer lives in my area. I am a student now, and cannot really afford expensive consultations and treatment.

I am so frustrated with his skin, it doesn't respond to emollients and creams. I am very upset right now. After years of caring for his skin, I just can't find anything to help.

Can somebody please recommend any suitable homeopathic remedies I can try?

Many thanks in advance.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I have an 8 year old who has this and I worry more when it goes away what new challenge may arise. In finding the correct constitutional remedy for her, I also completley altered her diet.
The nutritionist gave us a Gluten free plan for a few days may be a week, acidoph. and additional flax oil in her diet helped with temperment. No nervousness. If we added many regular foods to the the new plan rapidly we felt weak. Then we went back to the strict food plan.
It made us feel so good her daddy had nothing to be angry about. She stayed vibrant through the start of school where her diet changed. The times she is out of school I try to feed her well to reinforce her health. I would like to know what you try.

Ayesha,

Discoid eczema often gets bacterial infections which make the condition worse, and can leave scarring and worse. So first up, you need to ensure that the skin is always kept clean to minimise the chances of this happening.

It is a serious condition that needs serious treatment. I strongly suggest you see your local doctor for advice rather than searching for anonymous internet advice from people like me.

ayesha,

can you please answer the following questions,

- does you son like hot or cold weather.

- what conditions the eczema aggravate; hot, cold, dry or wet.

- when it oozes, what is the colour of the liquid.

- can he not stay without scratching.

- does it burn after it becomes raw on scratching.

- which time of the day is it worst.

- what ailments does your son generally suffer from.

Hi,

many thnaks for your replies. Here are some answers to the questions:

- does you son like hot or cold weather?

He does not seem to mind either- he enjoys playing outdoors in both.

- what conditions the eczema aggravate; hot, cold, dry or wet?

I think being wet aggrravates his eczmea more. His eczema always appears to be worse in the colder months.

- when it oozes, what is the colour of the liquid?

Yellowy discharge and blood appears from the discs of eczema.

- can he not stay without scratching?

This he finds really difficult. He constantly scratches it, even wothout realising.

- does it burn after it becomes raw on scratching?

Yes, he complains about the stinging sensation afterwards.

- which time of the day is it worst?

I find this question difficult to answer as I am out most of the day, and therefore only see him scratching on an evening.

- what ailments does your son generally suffer from.

He is generally fit and well, and only suffers from hayfever in the summer months.

I hope this information is useful.

I am turning to homoeopathy again as it was successful in helping him in the past.

All the Best,

Ayesha

some remedies which are coming up are RHUS-TOX, DULCAMARA.
both the above remedies have almost the same modalities.

try RHUS TOX 200C some six doses at 4 hours interval and note the changes if any.

observe the response for the next 7 days and if nothing happens, you may try the other one, DULCAMARA 200C three doses.
