Palm oil

My friend told me about this site called Palm Oil Truth Foundation which says that palm oil is unsaturated, heart-friendly and trans fat-free. It is supposed to be a source of antioxidants and vitamins and does not contribute to high blood cholesterol or heart disease unlike other oils.

The site even has recipes!

What do you think of the oil?

Thanks!

Hi,
As I know, all oils from vegetables are insaturated; and the oils from animal or fish are saturated.
In the oils there are the fat essential acids (ac. linoleic and linolenic specially).
In mediterranean diet, olive oil is essential and it has demonstrated its therapeutical effects.
About palm oil, the problem is that the entrepises uses this oil to hidrogenate and then to produce vegetal butters or shortenings. This proccess of hidrogenation change the chemical structure and properties of the oil. These ellaborated products have a great quantity of saturated fats, but they are very very very cheap.
