Baby feeding problems

Hello,

My baby boy is 11 months. He does not like to eat or drink anything except water. He is breast fed and we also give him ricebased meals and baby cereals. Each of his meals drags on for more than an hour.He has to be constantly entertained and his attention diverted so that he will open his mouth for feeds. He can eat normally, but we really have to push him to eat.We have tried to interest him with different foods, fruits or drinks. But sometimes,he will not willingly taste or if he tastes,he will give up after 2-3 spoonfuls.
However,he will willingly open his mouth to drink water.

He gets constipated sometimes and strains when he passes stools. We have given him Alumina 30 for the constipations and he can pass stools without straining and his constipation gets better.

He gets up throughout the night every 2-3 hours. After he latches on the breast,he will go back to sleep. This has been his routine since he was born.He cannot sleep 4-6 hours at a stretch.

He has 2 teeth and 2 more are on the way.He prefers cold environment.

He has rashes when he was born.On a pediatrician's advice we applied a antirash cream. The rashes went off but he developed flu, fever. We have give 1 dose of sulphur 30.Since then,he has not developed flu.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Have you had his tonsils and adnoids checked with CT Scan. Solid food may hurt when swallowed.

How is your child's weight when checked my ped?

With regard to the sleep issue, I found this message board to be helpful - we just got out 10m old to sleep thru the night.

http://www.sleepnet.com/ - go into INFANT SLEEP and read thru all past posts, it is very helpful.

Thanks for the reply.

My baby does not seem to have problem swallowing because there is no sign of pain during swallowing. He also finishes the food, but takes very long to finish the food.He prefers very finely ground porridge. But the problem is he does have a desire for food.He will eat when we feed him but he is not attracted to any food.

He is teething and that may be the reason

I recommend www.drjaygordon.com or www.askdrsears.com for help regarding your baby's eating habits and nutrition. I have found from these sites the kinder, gentler approaches to all facets of childrearing, especially the subject of sleeping. The sleepnet site seems to advocate "sleep training" and the harsh cry it out approach, which can damage their sense of security and selfesteem which will effect them much in the longrun.

I have the same problem as you described with my daughter. She is 9 months old and she is only 3 percentile 6.5 kg. She wants to eat only mother milk and water and she does not want to eat any formula or solid food. I would like to know did you find any solution to feed your baby?

These children may have very little sense of smell or taste. I do not know how to test it, but it is a consideration.

A good remedy to give to see if this is so is NATRUM MUR. But, this is only a test to see if they respond. It will not hurt them. And it may not show us anything.

So, remember, this is not a treatment or a cure. It is entirely up to you to see if you wish to do this to see if there is any response. Nat mur is made from salt. It is safe.

Get 15X up to 200X, whatever you can get in the X potency. Give one dose one night before bed. If large balls, melt first in a little water and give half a teaspoon as a dose. If tiny balls, give 3-4 inside the lip and they will lick it as it is sweet.

Please let us know. Sabra

I had the same problem with my son. He is 2 and 1/2 now and I still have the same problem. I somehow manage to feed him something but he does not seem to have sense of hunger. Now he is ok with drinking milk but with solid food I basically have to spend 2-3 hrs. He keeps getting sick due to his poor eating habit and low immune system I think. It is very frustrating when your child does not like to eat anything.
But I must say after I started homeopathy treatment recently he has improved.
I have posted his case in "Many medicines given to a 2 yr old".
