Chronic gastritis and heartburn

Hello! I need someone's help.
For about 4 years now, I've been dealing with heartburn (usually always in my upper throat, as if someone was holding a lit match in there). About 2 years ago I had an EGD and was diagnosed with chronic gastritis. Since then, I've been on Nexium and Protonix, both of which have worked pretty well, but recently, they're not cutting it.

I'm 24/F and I eat a relatively healthy diet and am not overweight. I quit smoking almost 2 months ago, but the heartburn isn't going away.

Last Friday was the last day I was covered for health insurance, and can't afford the pricey pills anymore. How do I get rid of this?

I've tried the 'honey' diet. The apple cider vinegar. The Cayenne pepper. The last time I went to my doctor he snickered when I mentioned natural remedies.

Please help :)

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Emma,
Have you tried DG Licorice? Chewable tablets actually work quite well on gastritis.

Nope, haven't tried that, but I sure will, thanks! Now, what do you mean by 'work well'? Does it just relieve the burning, or actually get rid of it? My gastroenterologist never took the time to explain to me a cure for it, only a way to relieve the pain.

Again, thanks for the reply!

Emma,
Deglycyrrhized licorice helps rebuild stomach mucosa and as such should relieve gastritis. I'm not sure if it will cure chronic cases but for accute inflamations I know first hand of its efficacy. Worth a shot. Doesn't taste too bad either! Good luck.
