Directing a question to a specific member

Hello All,

A member has asked me if it would be possible to direct a question to a specific member, who would get a prompt to respond.

Has anyone any thoughts on this? Good idea? Bad idea?

Thanks!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
bad idea, cos its a forum and open equally to all members.

if its directed to a specific member, other competent physicians may not bother to look at the case and thus the patient cant get a second opinion.

the essence of the forum is lost.

Dear Simon,
I do not think it is objectionable to address a certain person.Others can also suggest, there is no restriction on them and it is happening repeatedly.

Dear Simon

Are you thinking of a one to one communication, the way the PMs (Personal messages)are in other forums?

No body else has access to the post/message except the addressee.

If this is what you meant, it is a good idea.

Rishimba, Murthy,

I think keeping it private entirely (i.e. private messaging, or 'by invitation only') closes out the only safeguard on the forum - which is that anybody can say something if they think advice given is questionable.

Sajjad,
I think the member meant that we could flag a message for the attention of a particular member - currently people do this in the title. It need not be visible to other members that someone has done this.

Thanks,
Simon

Dear Simon

Many times I hesitate to intervene in a post explicitly addressed by name.

I do so only in extraordinary circumstances.

In case the name is not mentioned neither in the title, nor in the first post the seeker makes, and if we can't see for whom it is flagged, then the interventions could be more frequent.

You are the best judge to decide whether it is good or not.

Thanks Murthy,

The problem is not unwanted interventions, rather that the indended member misses the post, and after an answer has been give, further questions don't get answered.

Another option would be having the 'email me when anyone replies to this post' option checked by default on all posts?

Dear Simon

I always go to my profile, at least once in a day, and read all the recent threads once again, so that I don't miss a thread , on which I made a post.

The responsibilty lies with the prescriber, to make sure that the problem is settled amicably, in case he can no longer help the case.

Any amount of reminders will not make him answer, if he decided to ignore the thread.

I understand the agony of some seekers, who suddenly find themselves abandoned, and I wish prescribers have the heart not to do so.

Dear Simon

PMs or Sending private prompts are excellent enhancements.

Dear simon,
I do not agree with this idea as this is an open forum and every physician has his own findings and experience. Exchange of view in critical case is the key of success in such cases. However, the matters of personal nature would be asked to particular member.

regards.

OK, we'll leave it as it is.

Thanks, all.
