arthritis

I have a problem with arthritis in my left hip.
I am 64 years old and have kept this arthritis problem at bay by taking Glucoomine Condroiton for about 10 years.
It is getting so that that product no longer helps... Any advice to help my problem would be greatly appreciated.

*******

You must have atleast three prominent symptoms to match ,for argentum metallicum to help you.

There are many medicines indicated in homeopathy for arthritis.

A sample.

*******

Arnica: Useful for chronic arthritis with a feeling of bruising and soreness. The painful parts feel worse from being moved or touched.

Aurum metallicum: This remedy is often prescribed for wandering pains in the muscles and joints that are better from motion and warmth, and worse at night. The person may experience deep pain in the limbs when trying to sleep. Also may feel discomfort that may wake the person up. People who need this remedy are often serious and focused on work or career, with a tendency to feel depressed.

Bryonia: Helpful for stiffness and inflammation with tearing or throbbing pain, made worse by motion. The condition may have developed gradually, and is worse in cold dry weather. Discomfort is aggravated by being touched or bumped, or from any movement. Relief can be had from pressure and from rest. The person may want to stay completely still and not be interfered with.

Calcarea carbonica: Helpful for deeply aching arthritis involving node formation around the joints. Inflammation and soreness are worse from cold and dampness, and problems may be focused on the knees and hands. Common symptoms are: weakness in the muscles, easy fatigue from exertion, and a feeling of chilliness or sluggishness. The person who benefits from Calcarea is often solid and responsible, but tends to become extremely anxious and overwhelmed when ill or overworked.

Causticum: Useful when deformities develop in the joints, in a person with a tendency toward tendon problems, muscle weakness, and contractures. The hands and fingers may be most affected, although other joints can also be involved. Stiffness and pain are worse from being cold, and relief may come with warmth. The person often feels best in rainy weather and worse when the days are clear and dry.

Calcarea fluorica: Helpful when arthritic pains improve with heat and motion. Joints become enlarged and hard, and nodes or deformities develop. Arthritis after chronic injury to joints also responds to Calcarea fluorica.

Dulcamara: Indicated if arthritis flares up during cold damp weather. The person gets chilled and wet. They are often stout, with a tendency toward back pain, chronic stiffness in the muscles, and allergies.

Kali bichromicum: This is useful when arthritic pains alternate with asthma or stomach symptoms. Pains may suddenly come and go, or shift around. Discomfort and inflammation are aggravated by heat, and worse when the weather is warm.

Kali carbonicum: Arthritis with great stiffness and stitching pains, worse in the early morning hours and worse from cold and dampness, may respond to kali carbonicum. The joints may be becoming thickened or deformed. People who can benefit from this remedy often have a rigid moral code, and tend to feel anxiety in the stomach.

Kalmia latiflora: Useful for intense arthritic pain that flares up suddenly. The problems start in higher joints and extend to lower ones. Pain and inflammation may begin in the elbows, spreading downward to the wrists and hands. Discomfort is worse from motion and often worse at night.

Ledum palustre: Arthritis that starts in lower joints and extends to higher ones are candidate for this remedy. Pain and inflammation often begin in the toes and spread upward to the ankles and knees. The joints may also make cracking sounds. Ledum is strongly indicated when swelling is significant and relieved by cold applications.

Pulsatilla: Applicable when rheumatoid arthritis pain is changeable in quality, or when the flare-ups move from place to place. The symptoms (and the person) feel worse from warmth, and better from fresh air and cold applications. Can benefit people who are emotional and affectionate, sometimes having teary moods.

Rhododendron: Strongly indicated if swelling and soreness flare up before a storm, continuing until the weather clears. Cold and dampness aggravate the symptoms. Discomfort is often worse toward early morning, or after staying still too long.

Rhus toxicodendron: Useful for rheumatoid arthritis, with pain and stiffness that is worse in the morning and worse on first motion, but better from continued movement. Hot baths or showers, and warm applications improve the stiffness and relieve the pain. The condition is worse in cold, wet weather. The person may feel extremely restless, unable to find a comfortable position, and need to keep moving constantly. Continued motion also helps to relieve anxiety.

Ruta graveolens: Arthritis with a feeling of great stiffness and lameness, worse from cold and damp and worse from exertion, may be helped by ruta graveolens. Tendons and capsules of the joints can be deeply affected or damaged. The arthritis may have developed after overuse, from repeated wear and tear.

Thanks Mr.Murthy i like to request you to please suggesst one single remedy for the patient. The details you have mentioned is well known to every homeopathic doctors i think.

Dr.Haran ch malaker last decade
I will suggest a medicine only if I get all the symptoms, and take a complete case.

I will not prescribe a medicine on hearing a name, because in homeopathy many medicines cover the same problem.

The individualisation, and PQRS symptoms are the key to choose the correct medicine.

Even for acute cases I look for the complete symptom, which should include the location, sensation and modality atleast. If the concomitants are there, it is better.

For chronic problems like arthritis, there is no other way than to take a complete case.

This is from Kent.

*************

Cold, damp weather, stormy weather will bring on rheumatism - not so much with swelling, although it has that, but pains apparently in the cartilages, and pains along the nerves.

And these pains are so severe that he cannot keep still. Hence, it has a rheumatic state, from cold, damp weather, from becoming chilled, in the joints and in the nerves, so that be walks and walks.

Many symptoms are better from especially walking. So tired and exhausted, but die pain is so severe that it drives him to walk.

***********
All cartilages in the body are affected by it. It produces a hypertrophy of cartilages, a thickening of the cartilaginous portions of joints, of the cartilage of the ears, and of the nose.

Produces cartilaginous growths and tumors; infiltrations. It affects the nerve substance, it is a deep organic remedy.

**********

All these pains are better from motion.

Again, it full of infiltrations. Inflamed cartilages infiltrate and form into hard knots. A superabundance of cartilaginous tissue, so that round about the joints the cartilages are thickened.

********

The arg.met patient's pain are better from walking. Moreover it helps in cases when the cartilages are thickened, and not when they are weakened.

All arthritis patients can't be helped by this remedy. only some who have these peculiarities get benefitted by it.

Kent was a very very responsible prescriber, and never prescribed at the drop of the hat.

The modalities are very important for selection of a medicine for problems like Arhritis, which affect many people.

The disease symptoms are the same for everybody, but there wil be subtle variations in the circumstances in which the persons gets worse or better, from person to person.

These are called modalities, and help the homeopath in choosing the correct medicine.

The arthritis patient who is worse walking may need Rhustox.

Better walking may need Arg.Nitricum.

The final choice depends not only on this single symtom, but it is based on analysing all the other prominent symptoms together, which we call the totality.

The prescribing on the name of the disease alone is not homeopathy.

Patients are asking for homeopathic remedies, and not a medicine chosen the allopathic way, with a homeopathic name.

Taking the homeopathic medicine prescribed in the allopathic way, is no better than taking the allopathic medicine prescribed the allopathic way.

In fact, the later is better, as the allopathic is trained to handle its consequences.

Homeopaths are trained, or atleast supposed to be trained in selecting and handling homeopathic medicines, the homeopathic way.

If a homeopathic prescriber follows these mongrel methods, it is safe for you to be as as much away from him as possible.

Arthritis

Arsenicum album (arsenic trioxide, white oxide of arsenic). In its crude form, arsenic is a deadly poison: when applied topically, it can literally corrode skin tissue; when ingested, it damages blood vessels and ultimately leads to organ damage throughout the body. However, in the right form and amount, arsenic is known to be a treatment for several different illnesses—and has been known as such since physicians in ancient Greece and Rome started using it. Samuel Hahnemann introduced arsenic to homeopathy in 1828, and it has been used as a remedy ever since.
Homeopaths generally prescribe arsenicum album to those people whose symptoms tend to be worse at night than in the morning, improve with heat and warm drinks, and include anxiety and fear.

Aurum metallicum (metallic gold). Similar to the gold compounds used to treat arthritis in mainstream medicine, aurum metallicum is a remedy for a variety of disturbances. Homeopathic gold comes in a fine brown powder which is prepared by a process called trituration. Trituration, which involves grinding down the powder and diluting it with milk sugars, is necessary because gold is not soluble in water or alcohol.
Typically, homeopaths prescribe aurum metallicum to arthritis patients who complain that the pain in their fingers or limbs feels worse from sunset to sunrise, is least problematic in the morning, and gets better during the day.

Bryonia alba (wild bryony, wild hops). Bryonia, which is derived from a climbing vine known as Cucurbitaceae, is one of the most effective homeopathic remedies for rheumatic conditions. It acts especially on fibrous tissues, including ligaments and tendons, as well as nerves. The illnesses usually associated with bryonia are more likely to occur in warm, damp climates.
A homeopath is most likely to suggest bryonia to an individual who seems sluggish and dull of mind, whose symptoms improve with exposure to cool, fresh air and worsen with movement and touch. Rest and a diet consisting mostly of cold foods may also be recommended.

Calcarea carbonica (Calcarea ostrearum, oystershell). Derived from the pure white portion of oyster shells, this homeopathic remedy has as its primary component the mineral calcium. The fifth most abundant element in the body, calcium is essential to the body's formation and repair of bone tissue. Calcarea carbonica, therefore, is especially useful for those people suffering from osteoarthritis.
A person for whom this remedy would be most helpful would have symptoms that improved in a dry, warm climate and worsened in the cold and with any type of exertion. Generally speaking, the calcarea patient tends to have pale skin and a plump figure, among other qualities.

Pulsatilla (windflower, meadow anemone). This remedy derives from the perennial herb known as Pulsatilla nigricans; it is prepared from the whole fresh plant when it is in flower. In addition to its use as a remedy for arthritis, it is also known to help in eye disease, uterine disorders, and menstrual cramping.
For those with arthritis symptoms, a homeopath is most likely to prescribe pulsatilla to someone who, like Marjorie, is warm and compassionate, complains about the heat, and (if female) has associated menstrual problems. Symptoms tend to worsen with heat and rich food, and improve with open air and cold applications.

Rhus toxicodendron (poison ivy). Derived from a plant with which campers, hikers, and adventurous children are all too familiar, this homeopathic remedy was first used by a French physician in 1798. It affects the skin, mucous membranes, and, of special importance to those with arthritis, fibrous tissue including joints, tendons, and sheaths.
People who do best with Rhus tox., as it is known, tend to be anxious and despondent and have symptoms that improve with warmth and warm, dry weather. Other common traits of Rhus tox. include frequent rashes, dryness of the mouth and throat, and a dry cough.

Incidentally the above poster too is a doctor.

It is a fundamental understanding in homeopathy that any medicine can cure any condition, provided the remedy matches the patient.

It is astonishing that the learned doctor who prescibes on this forum refuses to understand this basic philosophy of homeopathy.

What I quoted much earlier is from JAMES TYLER KENT only. Have a look once again.

He never said Arg.Met is the only medicine for arthritis.

Which 'sir JTKENT' you are refering to?

If you are convinced that it is the only medicine for Arthritis, and don't want to study further , it is upto you.

But, the facts are otherwise.

We have a poem.

You can get oil from grinding sand

You can drink water even from an oasis

You can obtain a rabbit horn, if you roam about enough

But you can't convince a XXXX.

So, please be happy with what you know, but don't insist that what you know has to be accepted by everybody else.

The same thing applies to me too, but, I try to substantiate my point with lot of references.

That makes a lot of difference.

Kent said

'It has been a valuable substance througout all history.'

It means this medicine is in use since many years, and it never means that no need to take the history of the patient.

What a confusion?
