skin crack problem on finger tips

Can someone help me with this problem? The fingertip on my right thumb cracks open, and then heals itself after I apply some allopathic medicines prescribed by the local dermatologist. This is a recurring problem. The skin heals when the topical lotion is applied continously for a couple of days. And within a day or two, the skin becomes brittle/hard and starts peeling away leaving the tender skin exposed to cracks ect.

this problem has made the day to day activities extremely difficult for me.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I too suffered this problem for 40 years, as did my mother. It was also on my right thumb. Nothing helped.

I used Rescue Cream by Bach. After only 2 applications it was healed and never returned.

GOOD LUCK

just to clarify, the Rescue Cream by Bach did work?!? Do you know if it is available in United States.

The Rescue Cream very definitely did heal my thumb in 2 applications. I purchased it at our local Fred Meyer store(a type of Wal Mart super store). They have since quit carrying it but I can purchase at our local health food store which stocks homeopathics, vitamins, etc. I believe the price was about $15. I would think you could purchase it anywhere that carries Bach Flower Remedies. I have also seen it on online stores that carry other Bach products.

Thanks. I will check with local stores if they carry this.

fredkiwi - couple of questions to understand how similar are my symptons to yours.
1. The right thumb's nail was 'raised a bit,' in the initial days. I did not notice this until the dermatologist pointed it out. After applying the topical lotions (clobitasol propionate et al), the nail did regain it's original shape and level. But the skin cracks continue.
2. did you notice small circles under your skin before the skin started hardened.

I did not notice any raising of the nail nor did I see any circles. However, this has been a problem since my teens so at that time I may not have given it any notice.
Several years ago I was given a prescription(?) by a physician which did no good. Other creams and oils(vitamin E)did no good. So I just forgot it until I purchased Rescue Cream for another reason.

Odd that the one digit was the only one affected. It was a hardened 'crust or calous like' that was attached to healthy skin and seemed to want to pull away. It cracked and bled at the top end of the nail. At times I would cut off as much as possible to ease the pain.

Hope this clarifies my case.
