Arnica before surgery?
Has anyone tried Arnica before surgery to prevent swelling or bleeding? I know to take it afterwards but I was wondering if there would be benefit to taking it before a scheduled surgery.Any recommendations as far potency?
Would appreciate all opinions/experience.
Thanks,

Arnica Bruising, trauma and bleeding. Promotes
wound healing.
Gelsemium Anticipatory fear and anxiety.
Phosphorus pre-operative anticipation in children.
Adverse anaesthetic reactions.
Pyrogen Acts well as a protective measure against
infection. Daily for 7 days.
Staphysagria - Difficult healing and pain with a
sensitive, angry, red wound. Especially after lower
abdominal surgery.
Bellis Perennis after injuries to soft tissues deep in
the body where pain remains despite the use of
Arnica.
Ruta Grav Surgery involving bone and cartilage.
Deep bruises with marked stiff feeling.
Carbo Veg 30c Post operative flatulent distension,
better by eructions. 2-4 times daily as necessary.
Lycopodium Post-operative flatulent distension
which is better from passing flatus.

Different conditions need different medicines, both before and after surgery.
That is the essense of homeopathy. No routinism.
Arnica is the most commonly prescribed, before surgery , but if you have the anxiety and anticipatory fear, go for Gelsemium instead.
Similarly after the surgery, different conditions need different medicines as detailed above.
There is no one fit for all.

I normally give Bellis Perennis after abdominal operations,Ruta first and Symphytum later after orthopedic surgery, and also use carbo veg, lycopodium etc., on the above indications.
The patients recover faster if you use the medicines on definitive indications.
