black eyes not responding to ledum

My daughter is recovering from surgery to fix a broken nose and has black eyes. They are actually purple eyelids -- looks like she is wearing eye shadow -- and almost swollen shut.

I've been giving Ledum 30c every few hours with no improvement. I thought it was indicated since she is definitely better for cold; she is keeping ice packs on her face all the time.

Could my remedy be inactive? I've given many doses with no improvement. Should I give up on the Ledum?. I gave Arnica initially but it didn't prevent the bruising of the eyelids and since she isn't feeling any real pain or bruised sensation, I thought Arnica wasn't indicated.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Ruth

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Ledum is indicated for 'black eye', which means the general skin area around the eye, including the eye portion itself turns black, due to ecchymosis (The escape of blood from ruptured blood vessels into the surrounding tissue to form a purple or black-and-blue spot on the skin)

It is more of a discoloration rather than swelling.

You may be surprised to note that Ledum is not indicated at all for swelling of eye lids.

Since odema is generally involved after surgery,we can safely limit our search to the following rubric.

Eye, swollen, lids, œdematous : anac., apis., arg-n., arn., ars-i., ars., colch., crot-t., cycl., graph., iod., kali-ar., kali-bi., kali-c., kali-i., kali-p., merc-c., nat-a., phos., phyt., psor., puls., raph., rhus-t., tell., urt-u., vesp., zinc.

Apis,Ars,Kali.c,Rhus.t and Tell. are the grade 3 medicines in this.

The modality better cold confirms Apis, because the others are better warmth and heat.

You can safely try three doses of Apis 200c or 30c , three doses 4 hours apart.

Stop after three doses and report.

Mr. Murthy,

To me it looks to be injurring some nerve/vein at the time of surgical intervention.

If there is some life in it, I suggest you to consider Arnica 200 daily doses for few days.

Dear Rajendra

She said that Arnica was given earlier.

SKIN - DISCOLORATION - injuries; remains long after
led.
LEDUM can help but it will take a long time.Perhaps needs adjustment of potency.

Hi Sajjad

I agree that Ledum is good for black eye, if it is an after effect of injuries.

However, the stress in reperteries is on discoloration alone. Though the phenomenon leading to black eye causes swelling too, I don't understand the reason why Ledum is not included in the swelling of eye lids.

We can discuss further.

Mr. Murthy,

Dr. Boericke writes about Arnica :-

Resulting from injuries, falls, blows, contusions

Relaxed blood vessels, black and blue spots.

Bruised, sore feeling in eyes after close work

This is what Kent says:-

'The general aspect of the patient and the localities will point some times to Lachesis. Upon the face there is an appearance of anxiety, of unrest and distress. The face is spotted or purple and the eyes are engorged. The eyes look suspicious. If there is an inflamed spot, it is purple. If there is an inflamed gland, and Lachesis is full of inflammation of the glands and cellular tissues, there is a purple or mottled appearance.'

If Ledium and Arnica are not working then we have to examine 'Lachesis'
