The ABC Homeopathy Forum

underweightet 2 year old

Hello,
I'm feeling rather desperate to find some sort of help how to increase appetite and gain in weight as my 2 year old at the moment is 10kg/22pounds and that really worries me.
His birth weight was 6.6 pounds, but according to his grow chart he's been growing alright, until recently +/- sticking to his average. Fully breastfed till around 7months started solids slowly and seemed to be doing quite well. At 9 months he had an ear infection (eardrums burst twice) has been treated with strong antibiotics twice. Plus to that we discovered my son's hemoglobin was really low and his iron recourses were dangerously low. Feeding solids became a struggle as he probably had little appetite.
I had a lot of pressure to switch breast milk to proper solids, but after numbers of different trials to wean him off he's to this day preferring my milk to normal food and other drinks. Hemoglobin is back to normal. He's a generally healthy, active, happy little boy, who'd always only eat rather small portions. Recently he had a mild form of viral tonsillitis. We treated him with homeopathic remedies (helpar sulp 200 and belladonna 6)and he is rapidly getting better, but still has lots of mucous in his throat which is slightly impacting his breathing. In the last 1.5 weeks his weight went down by 2.2 pounds
and we again struggle to find ways to how to get him to eat normal food or drink...
I would hope for your advise. Thank you very very much!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
As long as you don't wean him away, he won't prefer solid foods.

I agree, but what would you suggest - the last trial to wean him off a couple of months ago ended up with my little one refusing any food or drink whatsoever for two days and being extremely clingy weepy. It just felt wrong to force it. I know for an outsider that might seem like I'm looking for some sort of magical cure without wanting to change the obvious 'bad habit'. Maybe you could suggest a remedy to support my son as I try to wean him off? I imagine that can not be a one day process and would try to cut off milk intake till we can totally live without it. I did give him pulsatila 6 3 times a day, maybe he would need a stronger potency?
Thank you.

please give him ALFALFA-Q some 10 drops 1/2 hour before food three times a day.

give the remedy with 2 teaspoon of water.

continue this for 4 or 5 days and his appetite for solid food should develop.

please do not give him milk during feeding times.

try.

In India, the grandmothers used to apply 'Kunkudu Rasam' (a very bitter tasting juice extracted from mashing 'kunkudu kaya', which is generally used for washing the hair) to the nipples. It is very safe to use.

The bitter taste causes aversion in the child towards milk. The child feels that the milk turned bitter, and develops a distaste for it.He will never know that you are trying to wean him away.It helps psycologically.

In English it is known as 'Soap nut.'

The Latin name is 'Sapindus trifoliatus'.

Dear Murthy,
I've read about Kunkudu Rasam used in India to wean little ones off and based on that idea I successfully weaned my older son off by using a local herb Artemisia absinthium L. The same principle and my son (2,5 at the time) 'moved on' without any problems.
I did try the same with our 2 year old and he just would not give in. He would be sort of fine during the day to go without even trying to breastfeed (except the fact he would also not eat or drink as if it was his protest), but during the nights it really was a bit of a nightmare for all of us (including neighbors)as he would wake up and cry so much regardlessly our efforts to comfort him.
Thank you so much for your information. I'm definitely going to try Kunkudu Rasam.
Feeling so much more positive!

Wanted to let you know my son is doing rather well. His appetite came back even before we started giving him Alfalfa Q and 1,5 months on he weights ~25,5 pounds and eats solid food quite happily.
Thanks for your advices!
