'... caused due to insufficiency of water content in the entestines / stool / rectum or in the colon. '

A happy misconception, not worth spreading in the medical world.

Constipation is hardly ever caused by non-retention of water in the colon area, otherwise you would always be having a leaky and weak colon. And also the kidney would then malfunction, if so.

One of the primary cause of constipation, though not due to above reason, is faulty 'Calcium' metabolism and balance assimilation in the blood.

A persistent dose of Calc.Phos.3X + Silicea-12X, (2 tablets of each, 3-4 times a day) for several weeks, would set right this metabolism, without any aggravation, with added benefit of bone calcium stabilization.

I would like to chime in from experience. If you have a motility problem, something akin to IBS, then you can have any dietary restriction or lack thereof and it still won't help. I've suffered from it for the last 3 years almost. I am a vegetarian, drink well over a gallon of water a day, consume at least 35g of fiber. Still, I've suffered from motility issues. You have to see what is the symptomology of the constipation. It may be due to dietary habits, or may be a plethora of other causes. Its really something quite involved. My two cents, since I can't do much else but complain about this very topic!

'Rectum.--Constant bearing down in rectum; bleeding, sore, and hot; relieved by cold water. Feeling of weakness and loss of power of sphincter ani. Sense of insecurity in rectum, when passing flatus. Uncertain whether gas or stool will come. Stool passes without effort, almost unnoticed. Lumpy, watery stool. Jelly-like stools, with soreness in rectum after stool. A lot of mucus, with pain in rectum after stool. Hæmorrhoids protrude like grapes; very sore and tender; better cold water application. Burning in anus and rectum. Constipation, with heavy pressure in lower part of abdomen. Diarrhœa from beer.'

Mr. Murthy & others -

What causes constipation?

To understand constipation, it helps to know how the colon, or large intestine, works. As food moves through the colon, the colon absorbs water from the food while it forms waste products, or stool. Muscle contractions in the colon then push the stool toward the rectum. By the time stool reaches the rectum it is solid, because most of the water has been absorbed.

Constipation occurs when the colon absorbs too much water or if the colon’s muscle contractions are slow or sluggish, causing the stool to move through the colon too slowly. As a result, stools can become hard and dry. Common causes of constipation are

not enough fiber in the diet
lack of physical activity (especially in the elderly)
medications
milk
irritable bowel syndrome
changes in life or routine such as pregnancy, aging, and travel
abuse of laxatives
ignoring the urge to have a bowel movement
dehydration
specific diseases or conditions, such as stroke (most common)
problems with the colon and rectum
problems with intestinal function (chronic idiopathic constipation)

From the above I am repeating the followng:-

Constipation occurs when the colon absorbs too much water or if the colon’s muscle contractions are slow or sluggish, causing the stool to move through the colon too slowly.

Thus the main point at issue is the water absorption. This is the problem taken care by the Natrum Muir.

Other problems caused are the after effects or Mal-absorption or excess absorption of water by the colon.

There are so many medicine indicated, based on the symptoms, as you yourself highlighted from Boericke.

Nat.mur can help with some people's constipation.

The indications given by Boricke are very good.

Hæmorrhoids [From].
Torpor of rectum (From)
Torpor, inertia, dryness of intestines [From)
Dry,Crumbling at verge of anus
Large, painful --
Frequent, ineffectual urging
Hard
Anus very sore
Bleeding
Contraction, spasmodic of anus
Rectal pain, persistent

The surmises about how it acts are not necessary. If at least three of the above symptoms are present prominently, and if the patient is Of NAT.M TYPE, then only nat.mur can help.

Your first post doesn't talk about exceptions. That is why this discussion.

Constipation, primarily has got nothing to do with water in the colon area and neither are any of the listed reasons, pathologically any reasons for causing constipation.

- Even 'fear' could cause constipation, even when on the best of the balanced nutritionist diets.
- Even 'nervousness' could cause chronic constipation, even when on the best of the balanced nutritionist diets.
- Even if one were to remain on stand-alone 'fruit-juices', for many days, still a person could easily develop constipation.
- (and probably a few hundred other causative factors)

Pathologically, EVEN if a person would take ample amounts of soluble/non-souble fibre or non-milk diets or leads a very active and healthy life-style, a person could very well get constipated.

Constitutional individual'isation (with a deeper pathological and psychological reasoning) could determine the under-lying causes for un-healthy or weak bowel movements (constipation).

BTW, 'exceptions' are supposed to be 'exceptions' and listing hundreds of 'exceptions' can hardly be called as 'exceptions'.

ALSO, the title of this topic, by defaulted, suggested 'Nat.Mur' as a cure for 'constipation', which in itself is misleading cure for constipation.

Hi Nesha

I checked later. That 'set' of symptoms of Aloe were lifted from Boericke verbatim.

Opium doesn't have haemorhoids amelioration cold water. More over, the symptom 'Uncertain whether gas or stool will come. Stool passes without effort, almost unnoticed.' is not found in many medicines, and it is the most prominent charecteristic of Aloe.

Nat.mur too doesn't match that totality.

No medicines can cure constipation permanently its common suffering of human being. So long we cant restore bile secretion sufficiently the problem will continue. Our grand ma system of treatment was better but it is not accepted by a large ppls.During my clinical experience i have seen a dosage of (mini) oil croton speedly remove constipation within 15to30 minitues. If the patient is given making 4 dosages with one drop of oil croton and advise to take one dosage after 2or 3days the patient will start to go towards normal stool. The rest topics related to spinal cord compression, parapalgia, stroke, gall bladder removal, prolapsus of ani, stricture, piles, fissures and hemorrhoids should be treated with our constutional medicines. But constipation specially spastic is really hard to treat. Thanks

There are two issued involved in this discussion:-

One is how the constipation starts?

The other is that because of the Constipation what ailments have taken place.

The first one is the Natrum Muir problem.

The other problems needs to be examined and treated.

Researchers have mentioned the cause of Constipation as :-

'Constipation occurs when the colon absorbs too much water or if the colon’s muscle contractions are slow or sluggish, causing the stool to move through the colon too slowly'

I referred the website. It may be gone through and then lot of other discussions can take place.

There can be pus formation, Piles, scratches in the rectum. irritable bowl syndrome etc. as the after effect of the commencement of Constipation.

.... 'Constipation occurs when the colon absorbs too much water or if the colon’s muscle contractions are slow or sluggish, causing the stool to move through the colon too slowly'

QUESTION ?
- why would the colon absorb too much water ?
- why could the colon muscle contraction go slow or sluggish ?
- why could the above cause the stools to move too slowely through the colon ?
- ??? Is it REALLY the water that's pushing (expelling) the stools from the colon ?
- ??? Is it REALLY the colon muscle contractions, that's pushing out the stools ?
- ??? Does the colon muscles contract only while passing out stools ?
.OR.
??? does the colon muscles keep persistently contracting for accumulating and compacting the stools in the colon.
??? IF SO, all above, when does a person get the urge to pass out stools.

- why could the colon malfunction (as above) and for what reasons would it behave the above way ?

- Could you get constipated (inspite of satisfying all the normal parameters (water, etc..), due to inner inflammation of the colon and subsequently developing fear of passing stools ?
- what happens to the 'WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM CONTROLER' (as mentioned in the initial post), in cases of 'diarrhoea', WHEN in context to less water in the colon or sluggish or muscle contractions of the colon. Does the colon, as when in context to constipation, play any part in instances of 'diarrhoea'.

!!! could it be that the G.I.Tract muscles (tissue cells) have lost their flexibiity, thereby causing sluggish colon movements ?
-- if so what caused the G.I.Tract muscles to lose their flexibility (or slacki'ness) ?
!!! could it be that the G.I.Tract performs a Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS), causing the water to seep out from the colon tissue cells, thereby depriving the colon of the much needed water to perform a single push smooth bowel movement (mic-micking a non-constipation) ?
!!! could having a non-daily-bowel movement be termed as 'constipation' ?
!!! could having a watery stool be termed as no-constipation ?

BTW, a sedentary life-style, does not cause 'constipation'. (a convenient medical misconception). The body's metabolism rate manipulates itself for same. (That's individualisation).

... hundreds MORE to follow, when appropriate.

REPEATED (as mentioned above) :
Constitutional individual'isation (with a deeper pathological and psychological reasoning) could determine the under-lying causes for un-healthy or weak bowel movements (constipation).

Yes I have seen at times 'Natrum Muir' works even in diorhea but to control infection separate remedy is to be given alongwith Natrum Muir in Biochemic form.

Even Dehydration is checked by Natrum Muir. Try once and you will find the answer.

I have given Natrum Muir with success to correct the Hangover due to alcohal.

Most of the examples given by you are the after effects of constipation and in such situation each ailment has a different remedy.
