Lichen Planus advice please ...

Good Morning,

I am a 54 year old woman who for the past 2-3 years has suffered from Lichen Planus, of the mouth & vagina.

This presents itself as areas of skin turning white, then changing into sore red patches which tear very easily.

I also have a persistent vaginal discharge (been tested for thrush, came back negative) which irritates my vaginal sores. So far none of the specialist have been to identify what is causing the discharge, in fact they do not think it is a problem.

I have endured numerous biopsies, and seen specialists but so far the only treatment offered has been various steroid creams but these seem to thin the skin and I end up in a vicious loop of applying steroids, symptoms recede, stopping steroids, symptoms return.

I went through the diagnostic matrix and have been trying some Sepia 30c, one in the morning, one at night for 3+ months, but there appears to be little change.

In general I am slightly overweight, low energy & forgetful with a tendency to depression (Due to my Lichen Planus !)

Any help very gratefully received.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Checking both Clarke and Kent one concludes that Sulphur Iodatum 3x morning and night for a week should effect some improvement .

Thanks for replying :-)

I will give it a go, I have heard that sulpher is good for skin problems.

The strength of the Sulphur Iodatum, would 30c, three times morning and night be about right or should I try someting stronger ?

I, too would have suggested the Sulphur Iodatum. I worked with a man for over a year with several remedies and was still unsuccessful. If anyone knows more, it would be welcome to all of us.

There is a site online about it.

I have read and been told that it is a self-eliminating problem, but takes 18 mo up to two years. I pray not for you.

Another possible thing you might do is find someone that does hair analysis. More clues about your body. Sabra

The vaginal discharge is due to erosive lichen planus. The vagina and cervix are desquamating.

I was under treatment of Dr.Shah, India form 1 1/2 year.

HI Evacarol

I have been diagnosed with oral lichen planus and I am 99% that i have L.P and Lichen Scelrosis too as well as thrush.

Could you please advise me on what you took for it to treat so that i may start from there or go to a homeopath with the info. No one seems to know muchabot it and even the surgeons and GPs dont provide me with info butinstead just topical creams which have just supressed it and maybe causing more damage.

you mentioned erosive Lichen Sclerosis (which is in the vagina)and I havent yet heard of that term -erosive. I have glugginess there-the gyno i saw in japan said it was prob thrush even though its not what i imagined thrush would be like..esp the white striaie around my clitoris which is starting ot come back again after being surpressed.

Any advice??

This is in answer to your question about lichen planus and lichen sclerosis in the vaginal area: I have had lichen planus since around 1997. It started as a result of a work situation that I allowed to be extremely stressful to me. The first outbreak was all over my body, starting on the left arm and then continuing all over. The doctor prescribed clobetasol priopionate but then did not want to refill because she decided that I was so stupid that I would use it like a moisturizer and spread it all over my body. Needless to say, I got a refill from another doctor. I still occasionally get small outbreaks and use the clobetasol. After this diagnosis I realize that I had lichen sclerosis in the vaginal area for a period of about 4 years. During this time, while I was looking for an answer to my almost debilitating itch I got an offer from an extremely well-reputed University medical center to cut off my vulva with laser surgery. The resident wanted this experience and pushed it. When I asked her, mind you there was no diagnosis offered, if this would stop the itching she replied, I don't know.
Now I sometimes get outbreaks of the lichen planus vaginally. There is the problem of the clobetasol thinning out the skin of my vulva and then getting more problems. I solve this by applying pure shea butter all over my vulvar and external vaginal area. Shea butter is a wonderful moisturizer because it is waxy along with having oil. You can find shea butter for about $5 a small tub - margarine size - if you know where West African people sell imports. Do you have a flea market in your area? You can also search on line. Be cautious of packaged shea butter and make sure that it doesn't have anything else in it. Shea butter is really good for a lot of skin problems, like roughness on the elbows and feet. I have even used it on my face. I hope this helps.
