The drs will determine if your wife has too much thyroid or too little. Neither condition leave you with any energy, neither allow you to sleep well.

I had a hyperthyroid it struck when I was 35ish. My heartbeat was very fast, I was fatigued but could not sleep, constant diarreah, could not gain weight, hyper-reflexes (I could catch a gnat in flight). I was intolerant of heat, preferred temperatures very cool. Since my husband and I were not interested in having children I opted for nuclear distruction of my thyroid gland (the swelling in your wife's neck, probably) which was a necklace-like goiter at the front/base of my neck. The other options at the time were surgery or pills.

After I drank the irradiated water, my thyroid shrank to nothing. The treatment destroyed my thyroid. The goiter disappeared and for about two years life seemed normal. Then I began to slow down. Catch a gnat on the fly? I couldn't catch a parked cab. My cholesterol level reached 640 by the time I realized something was wrong, and *I* didn't realize it, my friends did. I was living in slow motion.

Anyhow. Now I am on thyroid replacement and if it wasn't for Hurricane Katrina and Effexor, my life would be great!

I didn't experience your wife's conception problem. I never had pain in my abdomen because of my thyroid, it's not an issue I've heard of with that condition.

When they did the blood tests for my thyroid condition, they did both a T3 and a T4. One of those tests came out normal for me. They both should have been skewed. Ask the Dr which tests your wife had. She might should have both screenings.

I wish you all the best. And remember, you have to take care of yourself so you can take care of her.
