The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Chiari Malformation, Syringomyelia, Sleep Apnea....

Hello, please be patient with me. I have been reading the forums for a

couple weeks now thinking that I could find my own fix. However, Im a little

overwhelmed and dont want to overload on remedies that may do nothing or

intensify.

Im actually quite embarrassed at most of things I am including however, when

your desperate, you'll open up for any kind of relief.

In 2003 I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation (the cerebellum decends out

of the skull into the spinal area blocking the csf flow). This is the

shortest explanation I can give. This in turn caused Sryingomyelia ( a small

cyst in my cervical spine.) I am told I was born with the anomally, which

symptoms began with after the birth of my second child. In 2006 I was

diagnosed with Sleep Apnea, which is also another addition of the Chiari. I

have not had surgery for this because the outcomes are sometimes worse than

the intial reason for surgery. I feel that though I am very limited at

times, I am not broken. Being that it took almost 8 years to diagnose me, I

was told that surgery may not alleviate as much due to the longevity of

illness and the damage it has caused to muscles and nerves. So....... I am

looking to treat symptoms homeopathically.

Though the symptoms vary greatly at times, the common ones are.

Extreme pain in legs, left one worse.
Numbness in hands, feet
Headaches in the occipital region.
Extreme Swelling of left ankle and foot.
Cognitive memory issues. (I often lose track of thought while speaking and

go blank. Forget who I just talked to on the phone.)
Muscle spasms in chest and back (triggered by just a small movement at times)
Sleep disturbances. (Apnea-new, Narcolepsy-new, Paralysis-lifelong)
Extreme fatigue
All over body pain. (flu like feelings)
Digestive Issues
Extreme light sensitivity.
Depression (obviously)
Feelings of uselessness, from lack of doing much.
Sedentary, from slowly adding to an already overweight issue.
Easily irritated by noise, specially in groups.

These disorders bring other issues that re occur but not often enough to be

an annoyance at this time.

Though I am embarrased at my lifestyle these days, this is my general make-up

I am 37
Extremely overweight. 271lbs (I know this adds to the pains and apnea

issues.)
Heavy Smoker (working on quitting)
Extreme cravings for sugar
Very Sedentary due to weight gain, pain.
ADHD
I also have many tooth decay issues due to my lifestyle. That have worsened alot lately.

I was taking naproxen and cylcobenzaprine but have decided that I wish to

remove myself from the medical community as much as possible. I cannot

afford surgeries and treatments and feel that I can help myself much more

than they can at this point.

I am used to moving at a fast pace, those with ADHD understand the gift of

multi-tasking that made our childhoods a horror. My body used to keep up

with my mind up until all the symptoms started in 1997.

I realize this is alot of information and am looking for a direction to take.

I can communicate through email if you wish. I am also wondering if there is

a directory of Homepathic Doctors of which I can seek someone in my area.

At this point, I just need a direction back to my life.

Thank you so much,

Melissa

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
looking at the etiology and symptoms i have a feling that PICRIC ACID would be of help to you.

tell me your most predominant mental and physical sensation when you are at your worst.

i can paste my case sheet here later if i cant confirm picric acid based on your answers.

Hi there thank you for your response.

My predominant mental sensation when Im at my worst is: frustration, anger (which I attribute to feeling like Im not in control of the illness, I think), and fear of what will pop up next and how long will I be down.

Im not sure I understand the physical sensation but I will try to give it anyway. Physically, on a daily basis, is no energy or motivation (scale of 1-10) about 8 1/2. If I have energy, it is the pain that keeps me otherwise down.
At my worst, its the feeling of flu, pain all over my body, with my legs being the worst.

I hope this has not confused my case, if you have other questions feel free to ask them I am not afraid to tell you whatever you need to know if it will help in the long run.

Thanks again
Melissa

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst? Describe the sensation in your own words.

-Anger. I am angry because I dont want to worry what will happen if I do something as simple as sweeping
the floor, or dishes. I feel like I have to constantly justify why I didnt do or complete something.
-Fear of dying

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?

-Symptoms began after the birth of my second child, natural labor with epidural.
-Sleep Paralyis began at age 13.
-Attention Deficit lifelong.
-Diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and Syringmyelia in 2003.
-Sleep Apnea in 2006.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?

-Late morning, afternoon.

7. What are the things which aggravate your suffering and which are those which ameliorate the same? Example- time, temperature, pressure, rubbing, washing, eating, tight clothing etc.

-Exertion:Cleaning house, mowing, walking etc.
-Sneezing or coughing, humidity or hot weather make the headaches worse.
-Very cold tempatures make the body pain worse and effect my energy levels.

-Cold ice packs on my head, relieve tension at times.

8. Do your think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?

-Menses tend to bring the most pain to my teeth and gums. Otherwise I usually start them uneventfully.

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?

-I tend to feel better in springlike conditions. Dry weather. Or average summer weather.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.

-Changeable, Irritated, Lazy, Argumentive, Humorous, believe it or not. Adaptable to environment, but would
rather be alone most of the time.

- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm? Thunderstorms tend to soothe my mental mind.

- Do you like being consoled during your tough times? Yes, if its genuine.

- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc?

-Sensitive to all 3. Perfumes, soaps, tend to irritate my senses, unless they have a fruity base. People talking, laughing or arguing tense me up. I can hardly keep my eyes open outside.

- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless
Weeping, talking to one self etc?

-Picking things on my body. Skin on my feet, hair. Not obessive, though sometimes I do not realize I am doing it.

- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife?

-I feel like I
have not been the greatest mom since I all my issues started, and my two children show lack of parental supervision over the last few years. I feel they are irresponsible, uncaring to others, and generally only think of themselves. My husband has been very supportive which sometimes makes me feel even more inadequate. I love him and respect him for dealing with my issues. I feel like the rest of my family cannot sympathize with my problems and think I only use my problems to stay away from them.

11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly?

-I am afraid of dying with so many things always going on at once, I never quite know what is a threatening problem and what is normal for me. I am afraid that if I dont start trying to heal myself I will die. I dream very frequently, mostly confusing dreams with no real direction. I can have many scenarios with many people, so much that I usually cannot decipher what all I dreamt about. Just tidbits. When I was a little girl, I had story length dreams.

12. What do you crave for in food items and what are your aversions?

-I crave sugar to an extreme. I crave noodles, rice and salad and salty foods.

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive?

-Always thirsty, if I dont have liquid frequently, my throat drys up and irritates.

14. How is your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive?

-I normally do not get very hungry, I am usually eating my first meal of the day at dinner.

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?

-Salads though I love to eat them, foods with alot of grease usually tend to irritate.

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs?

-Normal most of the time, though when I am in alot of pain, I tend to be clammy all over.

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type?

-Frequent, loose upon eating meals and very rapidly after dinner

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?

-I dont sleep until my body is ready to fall at most times, I think this is a fear of paralysis during sleep. I like to sleep on my stomach though it creates pain in my back. I tend to sleep on my right side, unless Im in pain. When Im in pain I usually sleep partially sitting up. Sleep is always restless.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general?

-Used to have healthy libido, lately I dont crave sexual relations much. Some of this I think is attributed to pain.

20. Do you have any strange, peculiar or unusual symptom or feelings? How are you different from others?

-None other than the ones stated, though I tend to feel down deep that I have alot of talent that I am wasting and know that if I ever get even half better I might actually succeed at something.

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?

-I was put on Zoloft at one time, I was on it two months until it made me very angry and vicious towards others. I am prescribed with Naproxen 500 mg twice a day, and Cyclobenzaprine? 1 pill before bedtime. But I do not take them unless Im extreme. Probably take them 3 to 4 times a week. But I have to be in pretty bad shape, I do not like to take pills as a rule. I did recently start taking a multi vitamin.

22. What major diseases are running in your family?

-My mothers side: Grandparents both had heart disease. Both of them had 2 to 3 pacemakers in their life time, both deceased. Mother nothing known. Fathers side, breast cancer in my grandmother. My little sister has Reynauld's Disease not sure on the spelling, and my older sister has frequent shingles.

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance.

-Caucasion, Brown, long hair. Fair complexion, overweight, I am told that i am a beautiful girl, but I have very low self esteem and cannot see what others seem to see. 5'5 271lbs. Normal body weight: 157-162 I feel this was my bodies ideal weight and fluctuated between those numbers for years.

(For Females)
24. If your menstrual cycles are not normal, please describe the irregularities, like pains, moods, flow type, clots etc.

-Irradic, sometimes I have two periods in one month, sometimes I skip a month. Steady flow, 7-9 days.

rishimba,

I recieved my PHOSPHORUS 200 C today. When you say dose, do you mean the recommended dose on the bottle of 4 drops in a teaspoon of water, 3 times in one day. I just want to be completely sure I do this right.

Thanks

Melissa

SuzeeQ305 last decade
you are correct. one dose would typically be three or four drops in some 20 ml of water.

sip it slowly and push the liquid around your mouth everytime you take a sip. this is for better absorption in your mouth.

the longer you take to finish the 20 ml fluid, the better it is for absorption.

keep the mouth clean and no food or water two hours after the dose.

take it in empty stomach, that is, keep a gap of one hour from food previously taken.

trust its clear.

I got ya, thank you...see you in three weeks.

The outcome for surgery is NOT usually worse than the result if this condition is permitted to follow its natural course. This is a very painful and dehabilitating disorder(other people without a Chiari malformation or syringomyelia have NO IDEA) that will not respond to any homeopathic treatment(see the clinical trials)other than in topical application for surface symptoms. You must investigate this further with regard to surgical decompression. I had the surgery 2 years ago. I had a massively enlarged syrinx and very severe Chiari malformation(undiagnosed for 14 years). I feel better. It has taken 2 years to make progress but I can now walk(I could not) I can breathe better(I was compromised) I can think better(I am getting a Master's degree in behavioral education). Chiari is not a vague and imprecise condition. It is a chronic neurological disorder that requires bravery to tackle and support to overcome. Your health is not about a series of minor and accumulating conditions that can be treated or even viewed alone. Chiari will compromise your health as a systemic disorder. My heart goes out to you as I suffered from much the same symptoms as you did for many years. The answer is to address the underlying condition.
I live in New Zealand. It was a very big deal to have this condition diagnosed and treated. Things are , however, much, much better.
I have rejoined the human race , able to exercise and function again without extreme fatigue, pain, breathing difficulties, swallowing difficulties, gait problems, sleep aponea etc etc etc.
Can you at least investigate , using several sources, the options for decompression?

Hi everyone, sorry for my lack of reponse.

To others that have inquired about the results of the Phosphorous 200c... I did honestly try the remedy, the way it was prescribed, and waited the given days. I didnt notice any relief.

To Mandy, thank you for your reply and concern. Surgery treatment for some is a godsend. Chiari and Syringomyelia are certainly vague disorders. Not everyone deals with the same pain levels or reponds to the treatment the same. Believe me when I say that I have in fact researched, researched and researched some more on the surgery treatment. I also am part of www.conquerchiari.org. I have been with the community since 2003 at its start. I volunteered as a Graphic Artist for the organization and have been with them ever since. For those that have been recently diagnosed this is a great website for information.

Decisions to have surgery are left in the mind and heart of the sufferer. There are some, who feel surgery opens sort of a pandora's box, there are others that it helps dramatically. I would never give some one an opinion to NOT have surgery...It is truly a personal decision. I am very happy that your surgery brought about relief, that is awesome, you are one of few with such an awesome outcome. Thank you for your reply its nice to hear from patients with good outcomes.

Thank you rishimba for your help in this matter as well.

i have been waiting for your feedback since long.

please take NAT MUR 200C three doses on a single day and note your overall response for the next 1 month.

you can also try ARS ALB and CALC one by one and see which one gives response.

you have nothing to lose.

rishimba last decade
Thank you, contrary to belief, I am aware that homeopathy wil not cure my disorders, the whole intent is to treat it symptomatically. I will get back with you on the other suggestions, and your are right I have nothing to lose here.

I also want to ask, might be a little off topic, but after much reading into these two remedies, it seems they could be of use to me. What are are your opinions on Bioplasma and Biochemic Phosphates. Both are geared at the cellular level, correct me if Im wrong.

Thank You

SuzeeQ305 last decade
suzee, you are right. in such cases, where the pathogenesis originates from a structural anomaly, its not always possible to CURE the situation either by allopathic medicines or homeopathy. surgery may be of help.

homeopathy is based on symptoms and thus, an emilioration of your sufferings can be observed if the symptoms match.

look at nat mur in the materia medica and check if its close to your totality. in case you find a remedy close to your totality, it will definitely bring palliation if not a cure.

each biochemic salt is linked to one or more functions of the body theoretically and also the organ of the body. if a suitable biochemic salt is found out in your case, you should get benifit although in such cases, use of biochemics is not proven.

rishimba last decade
Rishimba,

Thank you...I will certainly try nat mur and get back with you. I am having a hysterectomy on the 28th..should I wait to try this? Im not sure I can trust that my outcome will not be thrown off by the surgery.

please try after the operation.

I suffered with the exact same symptoms as you practically spot on aside from the over weight thing...luckily I have a high metabolism, slender figure and also happen to be a sex addict..lol. But yea do see my dentist twice a month for crowns and fillings bc can't stop consuming food and especially the sweets...oh those sweets. Point to my tale ~ had the surgery 3 years back just in time before my brain flooded..even had a stroke in the 6th hour of surgery. Having a slightly malformed skull my surgeon actually had to customize the titanium plates during the operation. After spending 3 months in rehab learning to walk again, went back home and every single day I feel better than the one before. I'm still on disability (finally won my case last month) bc of my inability to remain still and coordination & balance still bot normal..but life is soooooo much better than before. Forget pills and silly therapy, get the surgery and smoke medicinal marijuana. That is the cure for Chiari & Syringomyelia. I also have dengenerating joints so helps with that tremendously. Good luck :)
