Chronic Hives - allergist is baffled

I am a 31 year old female who came down with hives suddenly in February 08. I have had them non-stop since then with very short periods of them calming. My allergist has tried many many h1 and h2 blockers. On doxepin and hydroxyzine now. I use prednisone as well but am trying to find a way to get off it ASAP. Right now, though, it's the only thing that makes some days livable.
I just started rhus tox and cantharis yesterday. Can I/Should I take them together?
Here is a rundown of my hives:
I get them most often at night. Generally they are odd shaped and puffed up. They have recently been breaking out like a target (allergist assures me they are still hives). Anything tight against my skin irritates it. The hives will break out and then merge into a huge hive sometimes.
Help! Any suggestions, help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks-KFL820
