Its a highly personalized thing. Some people seem to antidote a remedy just by drinking coffee or even smelling a strong odor. As long as you are taking precautions at the time of taking the remedy and you see continuation of the benefits of the remedy, you are doing fine. Over a period of time you will notice your own sensitivities.
Far as eating non-veg goes, it is ok to. However, satvic food, rich in prana will help the healing process. So eat lots of fruits, raw veggies, high fiber diets.
