3yr old sticks very small qty stools

About three weeks back my son who was normally toilet trained, stopped telling about passing stool and would do in his underpants. However when we removed his underwear they were merely smeared / stained with very small quantity of sticky (difficult to wash away) stools. He doesn't do this everyday - but on and off - sometimes once or twice a day - sometimes not at all.

His diet seems to be normal (he anyway always used to eat less and is quite slim).

Today morning he did normal stool on the WC, but in the evening again did the sticky / staining kind of very small quantity of stool in his undies - but this time totally green in colour.

I am little lost as to what is causing all this. Any ideas of what could be leading to this and what could we try - as in homeopathic medicine.
