Significance of dreams in Homeopathic prescribing
Ammon Mur,Hepur Sulph,and Merc sol patients dream of shooting.Boenninghausen's Therapeutic pocket book has only the above three drugs under the heading'dreams of shooting'.It was the case of a retired man of the army,who,I recollect vividly was cured by me on the basis of dream symptoms.He was a strong and healthy man,46 years old,who had prematurely retired from the Army.He was working in the last chinese war in the Nefa border,where he had sustained severe injuries and had been hospitalized for about six months.After this hospitalization,he took invalid pension and prematurely retired from the army.This man,oneday,had gone to forest areas for shikar and was sitting on a machan at a height of 16ft. from the ground.Unfortunately,there was a heavy storm during the night;the machan broke and he fell down from the machan and his head hit against a tree.He was unconscious for about two hours and with great difficulty his friends brought him to his house.He was hospitalized for a month after which he was declared cured.But after the so-called cure,there was something wrong in his brain.He started forgetting everything.He would forget in the evening what he was doing in the morning.He would go to the market,purchase three things and would leave one thing in the shop and would bring only two things to his house.He had became so much irritable in temper That his family members were disgusted with him.Some day, while returning from outside he would pass by his own village forgetting to go to his own home.After walking a mile or so ahead of the village he would recollect that he had already left his village,and then only he would return to his village.He was feeling that time was passingvery speedily....Zahid)2 on 2008-12-02

He would take his lunch at about 1-0pm;but after an hour or so he would ask his wife again to give him lunch and on said that he took lunch only one hour back,he would refuse to believe this and would say that he took his lunch long time back.This man had become rather a problem to his family.The local doctor had advised specialised mental treatment at Cuttack Medical Hospital.But due to limited resources his family members were unable to do so.This man was quite healthy had no other physical symptoms except the symptoms described above.One day in the morning,i saw this man coming towards my house with a young man about 25years old.On enquiery i learnt that the young man was his eldest son and with folded hands the young man requested me to give his father some homeopathic medicine.It was a very difficult task to prescribe medicine for this man as he was unable to give any satisfactory reply to any question asked.Basing on the history of the case and of the head injury I prescribed Natrum Sulph in 6,30,200 and 1M potencies in a couse of 2 months;but surprisingly there was absolutely no improvement.I further reviewed the case and basing on the symptoms of inability to understand the length of time,i prescribed Cannabis indica;but surprisingly this drug,even though used up to 10M potency,did not produce any result.By now i had treated this case for about 5 months,but to no avail and as no characteristic symptom of any other drug could be ascertained either from the patient or his son,I asked the patient that nothing more could be done by me and that he should take up some other treatment from somebody else.This case was lost sight of for about three months......

One day in the morning,I again saw the son of the patient,who told me that he had taken his father to Berhampur and then to cuttack Medical college Hospital and had spent about Rs.500/-on his treatment;but there was absolutely no improvement and his condition was deteriorating day by day.Infact I saw the man much reduced in health.The son of the patient told me that during my treatment he had forgotten to tell me one peculiar symptom of his father thinking that,that was unnecessary from the point of view of treatment.But on hearing from the people that all peculiar symptoms experienced by the patient,are important in the selection of homeopathic remedy,he had come again to tell me that peculiar symptom.On being asked,as to what it was,he stated that for last one year or so his father was dreaming persistently night after night that he was moving inside jungles and shooting tigers,deers,bears and even lions.Very often he was dreaming of killing a number of men inside the forward areas.These dreams,which were persistent for more than a year,had started after a fortnight of the cure of his last injuries,after he fell down from the tree.The son of the patient further told me that he had described these symptoms to other doctors who had told him that his father was in the army for a long period and was very often moving inside the jungles for the purpose of patrolling and the dreams were the reflections of his old service days.As the doctors had not given any importance to these dreams,he had not told me about the dream symptoms,I made a reference to Boenninghausen's Therapeutic pocket book and found under the heading 'dreams of shooting'three drugs,Ammon-mur,Hepar sulph.and merc sol.Ammon-mur patient usually suffers from constipation with dry hard stools.This drug has also burning and stinging in the rectum....

Ammon-mur.patient,again has a sensation of icy coldness between the shoulder and scapula.Offensive foot sweat is also present.Ammon mur patient has a characteristic symptom,that is pain in the left hip as if tendons are too short.But in this case,not a single symptom of Ammon-mur was present.The symptoms of Merc.sol are worse at night and from warmth of bed.The patient has profuse perspiration which does not give relief;but rather increases the discomfort.The excretions are offensive.There is profuse salivation from the mouth and inspite of salivation there is intense thirst.The patient is sensetive to both heat and cold.The tongue is flabby,with imprint of teeth on it,gums are swollen and spongy and easily bleeding.Merc.sol patient can not lie on his right side.But in this case not a single symptom of merc sol was present.So my only choice was Hepar Sulph.On interrogation I found that the patient was somewhat sensitive to cold air and was taking cold easily.He was highly irritable in temperament.A slight cut injury would result in pus formation and would take a long time to heal.A boil or abscess would take a long time to heal,and the part would be so painfull that the patient won't be able to bear even the clothing to touch painful parts.The patient was speaking very hastily,and at times was complaining of pain in the throat.As the above symptoms are indicative of Hepar Sulph,I wanted to give Hepar Sulph as a trial.At that time a small boil was developing on his left thigh and it had not yet become ripe.I administered Hepar Sulph 200,a single dose and placebo for fiften days.I cannot forget the result,I obtained from this single dose of Hepar Sulph.The patient became almost normal after five days and after ten days he came to me alone and beheaved in a perfectly natural manner.I asked him several questions and he gave me very correct answers.Further interrogation revealed only the symptoms of Hepar Sulph.After one and Half months when there was slight relapse of symptoms,Hepar Sulph 1M was administered and the man recovered completely and i did not hear of any more complaints so long i stayed at that placed.
In the above case I would not have normally given Hepar Sulph had i not known the peculiar dream symptoms.I donot know if anybody has cured a mental case with Hepar Sulph.But here this mental case was cured with the help of Hepar Sulph.This proves the extreme correctness of Hahnemannian principle that 'we treat the patient and not the disease'.The main thing is Ammon Mur,Hepar Sulph and Merc Sol patients dream of Shooting.
In the above case I would not have normally given Hepar Sulph had i not known the peculiar dream symptoms.I donot know if anybody has cured a mental case with Hepar Sulph.But here this mental case was cured with the help of Hepar Sulph.This proves the extreme correctness of Hahnemannian principle that 'we treat the patient and not the disease'.The main thing is Ammon Mur,Hepar Sulph and Merc Sol patients dream of Shooting.
