Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

My 10 lb 4 year old dog has been battling RMSF for about 6 months. He's had several treatments of antibiotics and doxycycline. His symptoms seem to keep recurring. He gets a 104 fever, lethargic and he can't walk. The meds seem to help with the fever and lethargy but he seems to have a lot of joint pain and has a very hard time walking and getting up after sleeping. I've been giving him glucosamine / chondroitin but it doesn't seem to help much. Any suggestions on how to help him would be much appreciated.
