2 year old afraid of baths

For the past 4 months, my 2 year old doesnt want to take a bath...especially doesnt like to get head wet and water on face. This started around the time that I moved into an apartment with the kids after a separation.

Any suggestions?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Probably pschological - go along with it cleanse haed and face with cleansing lotions as far as poss. Best not to give him something to kick against. But also watch out for the appaerance of 'I'm boss attitudes'.

First, he's two, a rough uncooperative age. Then the loss of a parent. It is not unusual for something odd and not logical (to the parent) to occur.

Children feel all the fears/angers of parents. They are very likely to think it is their fault.

If it is more anger and unwilling to cooperate, try a dose of Chamomilla a half hour before bathing. Teething occurs during the first 3-4 years too. Cham good for teething.

If it is piteous crying, give some Ignatia.

Use the regular tub with very little water in it. Let the faucet drip a little. Standing on a non-slip pad. Give him a cup to play with. Let it be play time, not bath time. Bath toys, etc.

Give the bath at different times. Never the same time. Skip it sometimes and use a wet cloth. Keep him guessing and not dwelling on when it will happen.

Wash little children with Johnson's baby shampoo. It is good soap and will not sting. Soap may have stung the eyes and frightened him. There will not be a bathtub ring either. Many parents wash their children with hair shampoo as it is milder and leaves tub clean.

A moist towel while drying off will suffice the head and shoulders for now. Talk the whole time, "let's dry the belly, ok, dry the arms, now the back, quickly, let's dry the face, etc. Wheee! Be distracting even if he is crying.

IGNORE all the fears and anxieties with smiles and loving touches. If you act anxious, he will be 10 times more anxious.

Hello
This subject struck an interest with me as I have read two cases in relation to fear of bathing, and not wanting the head or face covered with water. I think that what passkey and sabra said was important and please take this into account first. But if all else fails - read up on the remedy Stramonium.

When my daughter was 2 she had a terrible fear of water on her head, she would scream and be terrified, she also hated it if I went into the water at the beach, stramonium was given to her and she never had that problem again.
