Hypothoroidism Case

Iam a patient of Hypothyroidism and was prescribed Levothyroxine 50
mcg (to be taken every alternate day) by my GP. I had taken this
medicine for about 8-9 months and my thyroid reports were normal after
taking the medicine.

Since the GP suggested that I will have to take this medicine for lifelong, I wanted to find out other ways of treating my thyroid
glands.

I have heard that homeopathic remedies work quite well for hypothyroid
cases & after reading some of the forum it seems this may help me. I am based in New Zealand, I consultant one of the Homeopaths based here and have been rescribed the following medicine:

Thyrodium 1M (once a week)
Thuja Orientalist 200C (twice a day)
Hekla Lava 200C (twice a day)
Lycopus 200C (twice a day)

However I am not to convinced with the way the doctor discussed the
issue with me before prescribing the remedies. Therefore I wanted a
second opinion. I also checked registered homeopaths in NZ and
unfortunately the Dr I consulted is not on the list.

Can someone please help.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Dear Dr Kadwa,

Thanks for your response,

Please find the filled questionnaire as requested: I am not too good at doing this and also the have symptoms that can't be fully explained/put into words. But please bear with me as you may find all this really lengthy and you may feel its too much info.

Patient ID:N/A Sex:M Age:27 Weight: 74 Height: 5.10' Slim atheletic built.

1. Describe your main suffering?

Answer: I am suffering from Hypothyroidism. constipation & other stomach related problems.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
Answer:
I am suffering from piles.

I get headaches ocacionally.

A strange feeling (ocacionally) on the tip of my nose - something like a filckering feeling, as if some fluid bubbles are going off on the tip of the nose. (To make it more clear the feeling is something like people normally get under the eye - called Aankh Phaddkna in hindi)

I do get a vommitting feeling at times - Not actual vommitting but only the feeling as if something is stuck inside my throat. (something similar to what can happen when we brush our teeth and the brush touches your throat) I get this feeling mainly when it is cold, when I smell or see something disgusting - even talking and thinking about someting disgusting. I have had this feeling since about 7 years ago, had it for a couple of years at start, then it stopped for say 3 years and then started again, its less often now.

Burning sensation over the face, eyes and hot breadth.

My eyes feel gritty and dry and feel sensitive to light

Aches and muscle cramps - specially on my upper back around shoulder blades and lower chest. Legs too.

My hands and legs shake at times.

I get exhausted and feel like i am going to faint when I excercise for long time, my head get kind of blocked - unlike before I can only handle light excercises

3. What mental sufferings /
feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?

Answer:
Feeling run down, sluggish, lethargic

Inability to concentrate,

blarred visions at times (specially if I am outside in cold wind),

nervousness,
low confidence,
anxiety,
forgetfullness,
My moods change easily

I have more feelings of sadness

I get scared at night when I go to sleep - not scared awake at night, its only when i close my eyes. I feel ok when someone is around.

I am always thinking of something - things keep coming to my mind as if i keep talking to myself. this sometimes happens at night when i try going to sleep which keeps me awake and dreaming too much which makes me wake up several times.

Sometimes i feel unattentive, It feels like it is all a dream and i am not present.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst?

Answer:
A strange headache - as if my brain gets freezed, can't concentrate, nervousness, feel like closing my eyes and lying down.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?

Answer:
As i mentioned I used to get that vomit feeling about 7 years ago - that increased about 2 years ago specially when it was cold. This feeling put stress on my throat and by head and i used to get watery eyes (I am not sure if this is the feeling that actually made me sick)

At the same time I used to get little headaches occationally when I used to sleep in till late.

It was 2 years ago when I got a bit busier with work and part-time study and since I was flatting I had housework etc to do when i got home. There were other little wories like finacial, family, career etc.

One night I was trying to go to sleep and got quite scared since i was alone at home - I couldnt go to sleep, i was worried why this was happening and was to proud to ask for help. Kept going to sleep and waking up again and again but my mind kept thinking and getting scared all the time - I was forcing myslef to sleep. When i couldnt sleep i went to my mate's place slept fine.

This is where it all started, That night got me thinking and thinking so much that I ended up getting all these symptoms of Hypothyroidism within a week (this is what I think was the main reason supported with other stress related things)

Doctors couldnt find what was wrong but just advised it was stress until i got my thyroid tests done. The tests revealed that my thyroid levels were quite high TSH close to 19. I didnt take any medicine for a month and it reduced to TSH 8.2 mU/L and stayed aroud 9.9 when I was prescribed Levothyroxine 50mcg to be taken on alternate days. I have taken this tablet regulary since 1 year and have got normal results.

Even though the results were normal after taking the medicine i only felt better but not as good as I used to be - and also i am not up for living on medicines throughout my life.

The first 4 - 5 months were the worst then it got better later and taking medicine made it better but not absolutely fine. I occasionally get headaches. nervousness & getting scared never got better and all the other symptoms attack me every now and then.

Now i have gone off the medicine few days ago and i am scared i will get the same feeling all the time.

Answer

Dear Dr Kadwa,

REPORTING AFTER 15 DAYS OF MEDICATION.

I took the medican as prescribed.

When i took the Calcarea Carb, Mentally I felt better starting just the next day (though not 100%). Also the bowel movement improved but could hear noises in the tummy and a strange feeling in the tummy.

Then i started the salts from 4th day. Just around the 6th day I had a pretty bad day at work and couldnt sleep properly at night and at the same time suffered a burning sensation in the chest while trying to sleep at night. The next couple of days i had the same feeling including burning sensation in the chest. Tiredness, Anxiety & nervousness, capturedness of the head (blocked head - similar to blocked nose), tired eyes and not being able to sleep properly.

It improved around the 7th day and since then i am able to sleep okay. My Body doesnt feel tired but mentally I am not fit.

The symptoms i have now are:

1. Heavyness in the head & over the eyes - speacially in the forehead, eyes and ears (a little stretchy feeling around the ears). Feels as if my head is falling over the eyes. (At times I feel fine but then this thing starts again). This feeling is at its peak when i am driving and when i go running in the morning. When i turn my eyes from 1 thing to another it takes a little time to focus.

2. Feeling low mentally (sometimes).

3. Not feeling nervous/tensed everyday but when i do, i feel a burning sensation in my lower chest and can hear my heart beat loud.

4. Feel constipated agin but not everyday.

Physically I feel my body is now stronger and i feel active. Its just mental things that i am concerned.

Thats all I can tell you at the moment. Please let me know if there is anything else I can tel you.

Kind Regards

I felt good after taking calcarea carb (Please note that I had just stopped talking Levothyroxine a couple of days before i started Calcarea Carb).

Please continue with the tissue salts for the next 10 days. Calcarea Carb is a remedy that acts for a long duration. So it is acting internally.
Please report after 10 days.
Please read my posts on the breathing exercises called as Anulom Vilom Pranayam and Kapalbhati Pranayam by following the links given below. Please practise these pranayams regularly for half an hour preferably in a garden early in the morning.

Hi Dr Kadwa,

Reporting after 18 days. I just stopped taking the salts about 4 days ago. I was just waiting for my thyroid results which have still not arrived but i will inform you in a couple of days.

I was unable to keep up with the yoga - i did it for a few days in the evening but could'nt keep up with it.

I did'nt notice much change in the symptoms - I had a few better and worse days but overall its the same. The same weird mental feelings - not feeling very good (minimal concentration/mental sluggishness), blocked head. This happens the most when i am drivng or outsid running/sporting.

Just a few things to add:
1. I have noticed that normally i only breath from 1 nostril the other 1 usually stays blocked. I dont get runny/fully blocked nose that often.

2. I feel constipated most of the time.

Regards
