Management of A(HIN1) epidemic:

Dr. Mohan Rao, Prof. Rama Baru, Dr. Rajib Dasgupta, Prof Sanghmitra Acharya, Prof K.R. Nayar, Prof Ramila Bisht, and Dr. Ritu Priya of the Centre of Social Medicine and Community Health, Jawaharlal Nehru University, write:
As public health workers, we are con¬cerned with the reaction in various quar¬ters to the A(H1N1) (swine flu) epidemic. The hysteria created by the media and the knee-jerk reaction from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, are not conducive to rational and well-informed management of the situation.
Swine flu is not more lethal, for in¬stance, than ordinary flu and dengue. There is thus no need for the panic re sponse. It can be treated like any ordi¬nary flu unless there are complications that require hospitalisation. There needs to be greater clarity in the man¬agement and treatment of A(HINI) so that the public is informed regarding the aetiology, treatment and management of swine flu.
Secondary and tertiary levels should be used for confirmation and treatment alone and not for screening, as is being done at present. Screening should be done at the primary level — whether public or private. These have to be given guidelines for screening and testing. The Indian Medical Association will need to play a proactive role in professionallyand ethically sensitising its members. Treatment should, at least in the current phase, be limited to designated public hospitals. The government needs to ex¬plicitly come out with guidelines regard¬ing the stage of the epidemic at which presumptive cases and not just (labora¬tory) confirmed cases will be treated with specific antivirals.
Equally, there is no need for the go¬vernment to open up testing and treat¬ment in the private sector. As public health workers, we know that the private sector is diverse in quality and compe¬tence. The situation therefore is ripe for unnecessary — and expensive — testing for swine flu and unnecessary over-diag
nosis and treatment. This will not only lead to resistance to the only drugs we have but widespread exploitation of peo¬ple wrongly diagnosed to have swine flu.
The response to this epidemic must be coordinated by institutions such as the National Institute of Communicable Diseases, Indian Council for Medical Re¬search and the National Institute of Vi¬rology and not be guided by clinicians alone.
The swine flu epidemic must not be used as an opportunity for quick money making but must be used to strengthen the capacities of the public health in¬frastructure, including systems for sur¬veillance and monitoring.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hi mazharmhm

You are right and i fully support you.

There is no need to panic due to Swine Flu. It should be treated homeopathically on the basis of symptoms. In the following two cases this has been illustrated very nicely.

dear Kadwa,

i am not sure that i caught swine flu but some symptoms seemed so ; moreover , i was negligent and without much thinking i took Eup.Perf. 200 which i do generally whenever flu catches me since my symptoms have been same all the times ; but this time the flu remained for more 20 days and fever was coming and going with rest of symptoms ; i wasnt bothered about it because i was onto breathing exercises in the yog camp and then i observed large amount of watery sticky mucous releasing out during the breaks in the breathing sessions ; i felt it was the work of breathing exercise to release the mucous out from lungs as iwas feeling heavy lungs before that ;

i didnt test for swine flu as i was negligent (which i would say no one shoud be) ;

hence , am not sure ;

thanks for asking ;

Re: Is it safe to take Swine Flu homeopathic remedy From janinco on 2009-08-07
I treated what my doctor thought was swine flu (you have to test within 5 days to know for sure) with Gelsemium 200c every couple of hours along with Influenzum 30c and also Hydrastis Canadensis 30c to prevent a secondary bacterial infection. The peripheral, changing symptoms I treated as they with kali bi, Pulsatilla, Ipecacuana, Arsenicum, etc. as indicated.

My symptoms lasted about 10 days but were relatively mild compared to most. I did take 2 doses spread out of Tuberculinum 200c when I had trouble breathing. I have genetic conditions that make me very susceptible to viral infections and they can be life-threatening for me, but I'm fine and had no heart issues while I was sick.

Can some one give the detailed symptoms of swine flu...then we can zero down on the medicine.

Some doctor in Pune is suggesting Rhus tox, another in Delhi is suggesting Influenzum.

Some are saying symptoms correspond to Phosphorus, may be arsenic alb due to the flowing nose and shortness of breath.

Would be grateful to receive a detailed account of the sympotms of an actual patient or a group of patients.

My own case:

About two weeks back I noticed some pain in the throat, shortness of breath, great distress from heat and swelling in the left cheek. Associated with that was a headache in the morning on getting up.

I don't know if it was swine flu. I tried 2/3 meds until the symptoms yielded to a few doses of Lachesis 1M.
