New with a question regarding potency measurements

Hi,

I'm BRAND NEW to all things homeopathic. I'm in the midst of reading Homeopathic Medicine At Home by Maesimund Panos and am highly impressed.

I went to the health food stores today and am confused by potency amounts. In Panos' book, she says that the "at home" levels should be 6x. At the stores I saw 12c and 30c. Which should I buy?

I have LOADS of other questions, but I'll try not to hijack the entire board all at once!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
potency not as important as finding remedy most homoeopathic to case--once sure most homoeopathic--you will see response by any potency--but lower potency may give aggravation of symptoms before overcoming natural ill-ness..

read "organon of medicine" by samuel hahnemann--founder of homoeopathy

no matter what else is said or bragged about -this foundation for good homoeopathy--old masters best to read---boeninghausen-kent-hering...

For a first timer, 6C, 12C and 30C are safe medicines. Will give you results.

However, make sure you have a book that tells you the correct frequency of the dose.

If you are finding it difficult to zero down on the "best single remedy" , try some of the combinations by one of the well known manufacturers or done by an expert homeopath.....because it is better to start treating your self rather than keep groping with the choice of the "single remedy" for days on stretch.

Thanks for the replies...

In Panos' book, she recommends against anything but single dose remedies. Have things improved since 1980? If so, what combos do you recommend?

I've tried using the program on this website to determine which remedy to use in certain instances and have found it to be quite confusing. What book do you recommend for a list of dosage frequency?

Also, who, in your opinion, carries the best "remedy kit" for the money? I can buy individual bottles at the health food store, but they are twice as much in cost.

I'm going to start another thread with the FIRST of many of my questions!

Thank you,

Roxanne

Hello, welcome to the wonderful world of Homeopathy. It is right that the lower potencies may cause a "response" that may frighten a new user. It is not harmful, only confusing. So, go ahead with above the 200X. I have not had a unwanted response that did anymore that half or a day, sometimes only an hour or two. Sometimes a response means that you have chosen well!
The ORGANON and the KENT books are difficult to absorb by a newcomer. Go to the library and check out the book or two they have to get an overview. Don't believe EVERYTHING you are told or read, find out for yourself.
I have been a practitioner for 40 years. If I had not had two teachers I am not sure how well I would have continued with my interest in this very real and lasting treatments with homeopathy. Sabra

Dear Roxanne,

"THE PRESCRIBER" BY JOHN H. CLARKE, M.D. is very good for starters in selecting a medicine, deciding potency and how often to repeat.

Combinations are effective and easy to choose for starters.

If you select the wrong "single remedy" ....possibly no cure at all.
You will keep experimenting without much success and might begin to lose faith in homeopathy ...without proper reason. In such a situation better to use a combination.

Check the composition of the combinations. One of the five/six medicines in it could be the 'single remedy" for you.....that is if the combination works for you.

Panos seemed to insinuate--unless I read it incorrectly (entirely possible with a toddler to take care of, interrupting my reading!), that the combinations haven't been tested to see if their interaction could have some side effect.

I'm up for easy, that's for sure! I've already tried a few searches on a couple of things I'm dealing with and have gotten quite confused and discouraged.

What combinations/brand/kit does everyone recommend? I'd like to go ahead and have the basics at my fingertips, but I'm overwhelmed by the choices.

I'll check into the book recommendations as well. Thank you for those.

Thanks,

Roxanne

Another good book is "The Science of Homeopathy" by George Vithoulkas. And any book by Ullman. Sabra
