Pilonidal cyst recurrence

Hello. About 2 1/2 years ago I had a pilonidal cyst which eventually ruptured. I underwent surgery, draining it and packing it for weeks until it was fully treated. After it healed all that was left was a small cave which I was told was the scarring. Two days ago approximately 1/2 inch below the scar, redness and swelling started to occur. Yesterday, it started to look and feel like it had before. And today I am having trouble sitting due to pain. Do pilonidal cysts have recurrences over a period of time? If so, can it be treated without surgery and agony all over again? If not, any suggestions?... Thank you for taking the time to read this.
