Please Help

Hi my Son who is 6 years old is suffering from severe Eczema.

He has Eczema on his neck, arms, wrists, legs. At times it is even on other parts of his body ! He has dark cirles under his eyes. At times they are dark & red because of the itching.

He has ellergies to (peanuts, tomatoes, wheat, eggs - the ones we know about)

His condition is worse in the winter. He mainly itches at night before he goes to sleep & during the night !

We had been to a homeopathy doctor several years ago when his eczema just started on his wrists & she had prescribed Sulphur ( not sure the dosage) At the time it did not seem like it was helping him.

We have tried Steroidal creams, they help, but dont seem to solve the problem.

He gets very frustrated, angry, & cries when the outbreak accurs.

Any help is very much appreciated !!!!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
What about the boy?? We need to know more about the child and what kind of person he is. When, what, where and how.

Was mother treated with antibiotics for something when pregnant?? very impt.

If it is worse in the winter, in what way? For example, another child with eczema is in cooler weather, but won't keep clothes or covers on...you see, more details.

Talk about details until you feel embarrassed, this may give enough information. He gets angry...just from eczema, or is he a temper boy in other situations?

If he cannot eat tomatoes, he also cannot have any peppers, eggplant, or potatoes. It is the nightshade family. Study the gluten of wheat. It is the gluten that is the culprit. Several bread/flour products have the same type of gluten. Rice ok.

He cannot eat peanuts, he also cannot have peas. Same plant family. Bananas same family as avacados and kiwi.

To test, keep all away and add only one every 10 days and watch reactions. Keep all information on a calendar so you can cross reference and keep track.

Please do not let the doctor do the testing and PLEASE do not let the allopathic allergy shots be given. All this is suppressive, not healing. Would cause sickness all his life.

On prepared items from the store...Maltodextrin...is wheat. Carmel color is wheat. Some Soy Sauce is made from wheat.

Dairy products? Sometimes goat milk yogurt is ok. Soy is ok sometimes, mature women do not do well on it. Rice milk is safer if he is sensitive to dairy.

Enough for now. Please keep posting.

Blessings, Sabra

Hi Sabra,

Thank you for your reply.

Our son was breastfed for over two years. During that time he had no ellergies or eczema. Within 6 months after we stopped breasfeeding he developed dark circles under his eyes & ocasional itching on his wrists.
He still ate all things he is allergic to right now ( tomatoes, eggs, soy products, milk, coconuts, peas)

The only problem he had was that he threw up after eating certain nuts (almonds, peanuts) But we did not suspect that it could be from an allergy until we had him tested.

His condition has grown worse every year since. After he turned 4 years old, we went to an allergist. We did skin testing (it showed allergy to cats, elm tree, egg, soy, peanuts, & walnuts) The following year we did blood testing (it showed severe ellergy to almonds, coconut, peanut; moderate allergy to egg whites, soy, tomatoes, elm tree, milk)

We dont know if the eczema & his allergies are related ! However, they are both getting worse.

It is very hard on him now because he has uncontrollable itching attacs. They seem to happen at different times of the day & for no apperant reason ! He itches his skin & gets upset about it afterwards.

Right now we are next to him all the time day & night to help him through his itching attacks.

We have tried all sorts of creams or lotions besides steroids. None seem to help much.

We now realize that the problem is coming from the inside !

He is now on the special diet & body cleansing regiment (teas). We eliminated all the allergents that we know off from his diet. However, we do not see much improvement yet. Yesterday, we started to give him a combo homeopathic remedy (6c silica, 6c Sulphur, & 6c graphite)

Regarding your questions,

The mother was never on any antibiotics during pregnancy, in addition he has never taken any antibiotics!

In the winter the skin seems to be more irratated & starts to spread over a larger area. It also does not heal as fast.

His temper changed for the worse over the passed two years when his eczema has gotten worse.

Have printed out. Will study.
So many children like this. Seems each is different enough to require different remedies.

Have you read the postings on Graphites? It is a very good skin condition corrector, but I have to study to see the presence of allergies in the remedy. S.

Have you done a "Food Intolerance Test", if not, please find out and do it, that might point out the main culprit.

Dear Pls, Please get some JUGLANS CINEREA 30C. Give one dose every two days, unless increases symptoms, then stop and watch.

Because this is an old condition, it will either heal, or cause new symptoms to occur. If so, we will go accordingly.

Keep in touch.

Blessings, Sabra

Please give only 3 doses and then wait and watch. Old symptoms may occur or new ones.

Watch for these things and report. Sometimes H. goes back to the cause, and we may or may not know the cause in a young child. But if an older symptom shows itself, it must then be treated...possibly with another remedy.

Hey Pls hlp, how are you doing?

Patients with AD may develop contact allergy to any component of topical medications. Allergy to hydrocortisone occurs and is recognized with increasing frequency. Occasionally, an allergy to preservatives in creams is seen, which does not happen with ointments.

Flares may be associated with seasonal changes, stress, activity, staphylococcal infection, or contact allergy. A mid strength steroid ointment (triamcinolone or betamethasone valerate at one-half or full strength) is applied 3 times daily to lesions on the trunk until the eczematous lesions clear.

Initial therapy consists of hydrocortisone 1% ointment applied 3 times daily to lesions on the face and folds. Topical steroids currently are the mainstay of treatment, never-the-less ointment bases are preferred, particularly in dry environments.

Antihistamines: Both hydroxyzine and diphenhydramine hydrochloride provide a certain degree of relief from itching but are not effective without other treatment. Ketotifen may be effective.

Ascomycin is an immunomodulator used as a topical medication. It has been shown to be more effective than placebo, and no adverse effects have been noted with its use. This agent soon will be available for use in AD in infants older than age 6 months.

Other children in the family may develop AD.

Patients may develop acute food allergies, eg, to peanuts and/or eggs. EpiPen should be available.

Patients may develop a generalized reaction to herpes simplex virus (eczema herpeticum).

One third of patients develop asthma, and one third develop allergic rhinitis.

Apply an emollient, ie, petrolatum, all over the body while wet to seal in moisture and allow water to be absorbed through the stratum corneum.

Contact the National Eczema Association for Science and Education at 1220 SW Morrison, Suite 433, Portland, OR 97205 for information about allergic substances in foods.

In modern herbalism it is considered to be a valuable remedy for chronic constipation, gently encouraging regular bowel movements.

The oil from the nuts is used in the treatment of tapeworms and fungal infections and may not be appropriate for Eczema treatment and may worsen the condition.

Please talk to your doctor before attempting any regimen.

Best wishes,

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your email.

We did receive Juglans Cinerea. However, decided not to use it yet. My son has allergies to nuts & Juglans Cinerea is a nut product.

Instead we went to one other homeopath. She told us to start taking Graphites again. We did use use a mix (silica 6c, graphites 6c & Sulphur 6c) for about 2 weeks without much success. We were told that 2 weeks may not have been enough. So we are going to try Graphites again. The doctor told us that it may be 3 months before we see results . We will update in a week.

You have it backward. If this is the case it would be the PERFECT remedy to use. It is not made from the "nut" but the plant.

You forget that homeopathy is not harmful in any form. ANY poisonous chemicals are removed from the remedy in the manufacturing process.

Arsnic is given for fevers. Arnica is Leopards Bane, a poisonous plant.

Apis is given for extreme insect bites. It is made from the bee venom.

Rhus Tox is made from poison ivy plant and is used for certain skin rashes and hives. Also given to cure the direct contact to poison ivy.

Sabra,

We meant no disrespect. We simply dont know what to do any more. In the last month we have seen two different homeopath doctors & posted on this forum.

My sons condition has not improved ! It fluctuates from bad to worse.

One of the Homeopath doctors we saw game us ( Eczema mix (Graphites 6, Silica 6c, Sulphur 6c 4 times a day) She also gave us Adrenal 6x twise a day. Thenja 200c 1 dose anytime. Special Diet.

The other Homeopath doctor told us because my sons condition is so bad to give him Graphites in a deluted form.

Nothing has helped so far. We are loosing hope.

Last week we stoped using the mix that the first homeopath gave us. My sons condition got better initially but then got worse. His eczema has become irritated & oozing with a clear like substance. He also started to have puss on his finger ends & pus pimples on his body.

Also,

His wounds are so bad that we have started using cortizone today.

Pls_hlp last decade
does anyone know if it is ok to use topical cortisone & homeopathy at the same time ?

Pls_hlp last decade
if you use the topical cortisone you will not be solving the problem, just gaining temporary relief. I know it is very difficult and worrying but you need to give the homeopathic medicines more time to do their work - they do not work like magic overnight like cortisone, but they do have a deeep and lasting healing effect once they start working. To soothe the skin try using very dilute, lukewarm nettle tea.
Graphites is a very good remedy - when you say you are using it in a diluted form which dilution do you mean - 6x, 6c???or other?

erika last decade
juglans cin is also excellent remedy - I have multiple nut allergies and can assure you as a homeopath and as a user with these allergies that they will not cause a problem - they are far too diluted to contain an allergen.

Cartisone did not help ! We are pretty much at a loss !

not sure yet what we are going to do next!

Will write back in a few days !

Erika,

The second Homeopath we saw told us to take 2 (30c) tablets & delute it in water & give him one spoon of this mixture once in 4 days.

We had a rough couple of days (during which we used cortisone) the Homeopath told us that we should take one spoon of the graphite mix & delute it even more with mixing 4 glasses of water with this one spoon of graphites. Shake & then give him one spoon of this mixture.

He is so bad right now, we are not sure what to do.

We know that there is no quick fix for this, but it seems that there is very little relief !

Re: Son's Eczema problem From sabra on 2005-03-14
If they look like a BB shot, 3 is a dose.

The tiny ones look much like grains of sand. 5 or 6 is one dose. No need to actually "count," this is to caution the "least given" for those that think "more is better"...NOT.

"roll" the bottle to get them out. Shaking the bottle may cause too many to bounce out.

Do not put back into the bottle, it contaminates the remedy. Better to use it as it is no different, just a waste when less will work.

Years ago we gave much more amount as a dose and found it unnecessary.

Keep us posted. If there is an increase of symptoms, wait longer before the next dose.

Put the advise from sabra in to this feed.

Also, I want to share our experience about some homeopaths !

It seems that for some people everything revolves around money.

The second Homeopath charged us for a 5 minute phone conversation. I could understand the charge if what she told us helped in any way ! It did not & we feel foolish paying the bill !

I want to thank the people on this form spending their time helping out or sharing their experiences.

what potency was the graphites you diluted - do you know if it was a 6c or a 6x or another potency? I am asking this as sometimes changing the potency can help. graphites is a very good remedy particularly if the eczema alternates with asthma in children. there are various other remedies for allergic type eczema - it sounds as tho the allergies and eczema r related. talk to your homeopath again and see whether they can suggest another remedy in your case. if not then try the juglans cin already suggested.
homeopaths unfortunately have to charge money for advice as they are running businesses, pay insurance and advertising and training etc. etc. - the training is ongoing and not cheap but has to be done to practice safely. Make sure you choose a well qualified homeopath. Most homeopaths would love to treat for free and only charge if the remedy worked but then would not be able to afford to make a living and to carry on treating. you are paying for the training, experience and consultation -

Erika,

We used 2 tiny pills - 30c

I was a bit frustrated last night when I wrote the email about different Homeopaths. This illness is very hard to deal with. My wife & I are not living or sleeping.

(Uncontrollable frequent itch attacks, practically all of the time "nights are especially bad")
