gelsemium dangerous??
I have been prescribed Gelsemium 200C by a homeopathy practitioner my family has been using for years.However I read that it is toxic and can be very dangerous.
Examples:
'All parts of the gelsemium are toxic and can cause death when ingested.'
'All parts of the plant contain toxic alkaloids that can cause paralysis and death, and should never be ingested. Gelsemium alkaloids are highly toxic.'

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
You are so afraid to learn effects of gelsemium in material doses. You may also be knowing that there are remedies like snake poison and spiders in homeopathy. The homeopathic theory is that the substance reverses it's medicinal properties when potentized and becomes a curative remedy in the potentized form. So gelsemium should work for a patient who is paraysed or who is so weak that death is approaching him. Therefore the proper place to look for the conditions under which gels should be used is the Homoepathic Materia Medica and not other studies that give effects of taking gelsemium in pathological doses.

thanks for the reply... the patient isnt paralyzed or is so weak that death is approaching. the sypmtoms are much LESS severe than that.
however,only ONE dose of this remedy (Gelesemium 200c - 4 pellets) was prescribed, would it be suitable without any problems?

It can work for any symptoms given there if totality of symptoms match.
Homeo Remedy is a stimulation to vital force. Therefore the dosing pattern cannot be like that for allopathic or herbal medicines.

I endorse Kadwa's view. And homeopathic gelsemium 200c is neither toxic nor very dangerous. Homeopathic remedy is generally a potentised substance that takes away the harmful effects of the crude substance with addition of developed therapeutic activity.

Probably Gelsemium was suggested in relation to flu like symptoms here. So without bothering you can follow your practitioner in this case. It won't create any problem.

is gelsemium q - 30 ml - 15 drops in half cup water, 3 times a day will benefit patient of aplastic anemia to recover?

pradeep, probably not a right idea. Please look for a better remedy. Mother tinctures of Gelsemium like herbs have to be handled with caution.

My 13 years old son is suffering from Aplastic Anemia since last month. It all started with a viral fever and he was treated with antibiotics. During the fever Dr. provided the following drugs :
26/01/2011 : BECLAC FORTE CAP, MEFTAL - 250 MG, CEFTAS 200 MG, EBAST-DC, NOVOLID PLUS, VENTRYL D SYRUP
30/01/2011 : BECLAC FORTE CAP, CROCIN TAB, PLANOKUF SYRUP, KEFPOD 200 MG
After 7-8 days fever came down but sticked to 99 and then doctor advised him a blood test. After the blood test, we came to know that his hemoglobin, white blood cells and platelets are on a very lower side. After that bone marrow biopsy was done.
He was given ATG on 24/2/11, 25/2/11, 26/2/11 and 27/2/11 and after that is on Cyclosporine 300 MG twice daily. But still he needs platelet transfusions. Neutrophils are low and Lymphocytes are on higher side.
Somebody has suggested me following :
1. FEMIN (S.B.L.) - 2 TABS - 4 TIMES DAILY
2. GELSEMIUM Q - 30 ML - 15 DROPS IN HALF CUP WATER, 3 TIMES A DAY.
I am extra cautious for my child treatment. Please give your opinion about the above medicines. Please suggest me better alternative.
