talking in sleep

My daughter has always had issues with sleep. She is now 20 and her sleep patterns are crazy. What is crazy is that she has no sleep patterns. Because she is in college, she has stayed up all night working on writing papers and then sleeping all day. Now she stays up all night and goes to class and then comes home and sleeps part of the day.

She also does something very unusual in that she appears to wake up and talk but what she says makes no sense and she goes back to sleep.

I would like to know the remedies for this. I don't know whether to call it irrational talk in sleep or not. What she says makes sense and is definitely English and complete sentences but of course it makes no sense to me because it is completely out of context to anything.

So would it be 'irrational talk in sleep' or just 'talking in sleep'?

Thanks,
ruth

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
What I am hoping to do is restore her to a nighttime sleep pattern. It has been months and she still hasn't been able to get back to sleeping at night.

She also sings and moans in her sleep sometimes.
