Sensitivity / side Effects ???

Hello,
I turned to homepathy last yr when I got no relief from GERD w/conventional meds. After 1 mth on a homeopathic remedy (ASC 9 + AE 10 ?) my GERD completely cleared w/no side effects. It returned 8 mths later after a stressful period. This time I was presecribed Arsenicum 7 for 1 wk, then Ars 30 4 wks. The GERD went away but new symptoms appeared when I finished the remedies: muscle twitching/spasms/jolts, deep muscle pain, restlessness, cold hands/feet, dizziness, extreme fatigue, arthriticky pain, crawly feeling in legs and hands, etc. I also became very fearful. I went to 2 docs that ran all sorts of tests & said I had anxiety. I worked for 2 mths to reduce my anxiety & most of the symptoms disappeared. This yr I caught a bad cold/cough & the GERD returned. When I tried Nux Vom 30 the anxiety symptoms came back lightly so I stopped. We switched to Psorinum 30 but the same thing happened so we stopped again on day 1. Sulphur 30 was then prescribed (I had to dilute additionally) & this worked on the GERD for 1 wk before some of the anxiety symptoms returned along with pulsations in the back of my head. I stopped med after 1 wk & the anxiety symptoms have subsided quite a bit but I still have some GERD. I don't understand what is going on. I don't want to leave homeopathy altogether because it clears the GERD, but I don't want the 'anxiety' symptoms. Could they be related to homeopathy as a side effect/sensitivity? Any thoughts?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
you may have been proving ars alb.

one should be very prudent in repeting the doses else you run the risk of proving.

who advised you to take ars 30c for 4 weeks?

What does proving mean? The homeopath told me to take the remedy until symptoms dissapeared. Whenever I would stop taking the remedy, the GERD would return so I stayed w/ the remedy until the GERD cleared up.

proving means that..if you take the remedy for long, you will start having the symptoms of the remedy.

this is what you were having in case of ars alb.

probably, the remedy was palliative.

please inform your homeopath and let him retake your case.

Thank you for your response. I went back to the homeopath. He said my anxiety is causing my symptoms - GERD, burping, constipation, joint & deep muscle pain, muscle spasms, head pulsations, rapid heart beat, jerks, spasms, etc. (I have been tested by two allopaths who conducted several tests for wks & concluded I have health anxiety). He thinks the Sulphur may have caused the head pulsations & that I could have had a bad reaction to the prev remedy.
This time he prescribed Phosphorus 0/7 in extra tiny pellets. I am to dissolve 1/5 cap in 100 ml of water & take 1 gulp morning, noon & night for 5 days. Then one gulp morning & night until symptoms subside or 5 days are up.
I am female, early thirties, 110 lbs, don't sleep well, sometimes have night sweats, constantly worry, and don't like being alone too long.
Does this dose sound reasonable?
I am nervous about getting worse or developing a new or permanent symptom.
How long does it normally take to know whether the prescription is working? A few days? One week? Thank you!

somehow, i dont understand what your homeopath is talking about.

you can give your case here and get to know your remedy.

its up to you.

The homeopath believes that my anxiety is causing the symptoms - not the remedies he gives me.

I am in early 30s, female, thin, nervous about health issues, like to be around people, prefer moderate temperatures (slightly warm is best), have a tendency to crave sweets although I don’t indulge too often, love warm soups, lactose intolerant, eat mostly fruits & vegetables & fish, and do not like to be alone. I get especially nervous around nighttime and don’t sleep well at all (I shift all night long and often wake up). Carry lots of tension in shoulder and neck area. Tend to keep my frustrations internal – avoid conflict. Try to do yoga and exercise.

Here is the history of my case again in timeline form with remedies and outcome:

March 2009: Acid reflux / GERD was cured with homeopathy. Took 1 remedy for 2 weeks, then switched to another remedy for 2 weeks. No side effects and GERD disappeared.

August 2009: Acid reflux / GERD returned during stressful time (international move in April, change of jobs, etc). I started to worry about my health. Homeopath prescribed Arsenicum 0/7 15 pellets dissolved in 100 ml of water – 1 tspn every hour for one day. Then 1 tspn 3 times a day for 5 days. My symptoms improved a little bit. He switched me to ARS 30 – 4 pellets in the morning only for 14 days. Symptoms got better but not completely gone. Switched to ARS NH 10 3 times a day for two weeks. Acid reflux/ GERD completely gone by Sept 6.

Sept 18: New symptoms appear: jittery, constant dull headache, stiff joints, icy cold hand
& feet, cramps, electric shocks in legs, muscle pain, muscle spasms, eye twitching, throat inflammation, lower back and neck pain, dizziness, clumsiness, extreme fatigue. I started to feel very afraid of my symptoms and nearly had a nervous breakdown one day over them. This made everything worse. I went to two doctors who ran a lot of tests and both concluded I had anxiety. I was prescribed vitamins and directed to an acupuncturist.

December: Saw acupuncturist for 2 months and symptoms improved considerably – disappeared completely for 2 weeks.

January 7 - 12: Was prescribed herbs to calm nerves to help stop acupuncture but herbs gave me bad headache and hemorrhoids. Homeopath gave me Nux Vomica 30 – 4 pellets 3x a day. Initial dose one hour apart. After only two doses on day 1, my anxiety symptoms returned, but much milder and without headaches, no electrical shocks. Only muscle spasms, twitching, joint pain, and anxiety. He told me to suspend Nux Vomica immediately.

Feb 4: Got a cold while travelling. GERD returned. Homeopath prescribed Psorinum 30 – 20 pellets in half a glass of water, 1 tspn every hour for one day. I only took a few doses and anxiety symptoms worsened. Homeopath switched me to Sulphur 30. I took 4 pellets 3 x a day for 1 week. Acid reflux/ GERD improved 85% but other symptoms worsened. And started to feel a “full head” and head pulsations in the back of head and lower neck. Homeopath instructed me to stop Sulphur and suspend any meds for two weeks.

Feb 22: still have some acid reflux/ GERD, head pulsations, restless leg all day, joint pain. Homeopath prescribed Phosphorus 0/7 3 times a day. Then 2 times a day diluted in 100 ml of water for 3 days. Symptoms improved with dose 1 and 2 but got worse in the evening so I took dose 3 as instructed and the symptoms worsened terribly last night (I started trembling in hands, legs, and face AND now my hands and feet feel bloated and like they are burning). Today I started the diluted intake of Phos. Homeopath says the symptoms should go away soon and to try for 3 days.

I am looking for a second opinion because I am not sure what to think. I am so afraid of my symptoms - that they will be permanent or a new symptom will appear.

Since I don't know very much about homeopathy (only the very basic principles) I am not sure how long I should take it despite my negative reactions. Is there a time limit to homeopathy? How many days should I wait before stopping a homeopathic remedy? Do the side effects (like the head pulsations after taking Sulphur) go away on their own? Will Phosphorus fix this? Why does GERD / Acid Reflux keep coming back? I know that it seems to come when I have gone through a stressful period, but I hate how often it returns. And now, the anxiety & its symptoms are really interfering with my life. I have always been nervous, but never like this. It’s 24/7!!

My homeopath seems confident about his remedies, and I believe he is a good doctor, but I am just getting more and more afraid of everything that has been happening. I am not sure if this is normal, or if I should switch doctors, stop all medicine, give it time, etc.

Please help me - I would greatly appreciate a different perspective on what to do.

Thank you!

Thank you for your time! Here are my repsonses:

1. Main sufferings: Health anxiety & GERD. As a child had irrational fears about health and fear of dying. Age 6, mom found me screaming b/c a fly had landed on me & I thought it would inject eggs into my arm. Worrying got worse w/ age but never interfered. Early thirties I got GERD & fell into depression. Numerous doctors told me I would always have GERD. I was prescribed 30 pills a day to control it but it did not help much. I had belching, burned upper palate, bloating, feeling empty stomach, severe heartburn, weight loss, etc. I slept sitting upright for a year. Doctors told me to get surgery & I became fearful of never healing. Finally went to a homeopath and he cured me w 1 month of different remedies.

The experience with allopath doctors was very traumatic for (all the tests, referrals, medicines, etc). This created a new level of health anxiety. I moved countries & met a gastro surgeon who told me it was impossible to recover from GERD. Remarkably, this suggestion manifested into a fear that became a reality in August of last year. I got GERD again 1 week after talking to the surgeon. The homeopath said it was power of suggestion & gave me meds (first ARS 7 then ARS 30 then ARS NH 10; there were 2 other remedies but I do not know what they were & 1 was only for emergencies & the other was only at night for 5 days). The GERD disappeared in early Sept.

One day in Sept I cut my finger with a metal object and someone suggested I get a tetanus shot so I started to worry about Tetanus. 1 week later I started to get new symptoms: jittery everywhere – especially legs, dull headache, stiff joints in ankles & wrists, electric shocks in bottom of feet & calf muscle, constant eye twitching in left eye, spasms in arms & lower back, dizziness, clumsiness, extreme fatigue, sweaty hands, stiff & burning muscles (like too much exercise) icy cold feet, fear. Everything got worse at night – this is when the heart palpitations started around October. I was very afraid of my symptoms and this made everything worse. I don't know if this was due to homeopathic medicine I took earlier or a fight/flight response to fear of tetanus.

2 doctors did many tests & then I saw an acupuncturist & yoga teacher. Also, I took 1 dose of Arnica in Nov for severe headaches. They disappeared that same day.

Symptoms improved considerably after 1 mth of acupuncture / yoga. By Dec my symptoms were fewer: joint discomfort – like arthritis in hands, knees and ankles. Creepy crawly feeling in legs and arms, restless leg, some burning in hands, esp after exercise, overall weakness. In late Dec I was fine for 2 weeks.

By January I felt much better but when I tried to get off acupuncture the symptoms came back so I was given Chinese herbs to stay calm. I got headache and hemorrhoids in 4 days. Stopped herbs. Homeopath gave me Nux Vomica 30c but my other symptoms got worse after the initial dose so he told me to stop. I don’t understand this reaction.

In Feb I got a cold & the GERD returned as well. Homeopath prescribed Psorinum 30c but my symptoms worsened again. We tried Sulphur 30 & this worked 85% on the GERD but gave me head pulsations in the back of the head and neck area. I stopped after 1 week. Homeopath said to wait 2 weeks.

This is week I was prescribed Phosphorus 7 for GERD, muscle spasms, achy joints in wrist & ankles, jittery / trembling, & health anxiety. Daytime doses are ok but nighttime is horrible – insomnia, burning hands, muscle spasms & jerks, twitching, restless legs, heart beat races like it did before but it stays longer. I am tired now and feeling clumsy again.

2. I am generally happy, friendly, smile a lot, very compassionate, eager to please, talk to strangers easily, and a constant worrier. I worry mostly about health issues – I fear discovering I have something deadly or painful. I try to keep the peace so I rarely express anger. I like being around children, like to laugh but am often too nervous to enjoy the moment, my mind is always thinking, I like to read, write and take walks. I have a comfortable life but feel alone, would like to have kids.

3. I work in an office job. I would much rather prefer to be outdoors.

4. I wish I were less fearful / anxious. I wish I could just enjoy the moments I live and enjoy what I have achieved. I would make myself more confident if I could.

5. Nervous, Anxious, Worrying, Proud, Depressed, Hypochondriac, Emotional, Headstrong, Insecure, Impulsive, Restless, Feminine.

6. No

7. Sometimes. I prefer company but usually wind up alone.

8. No. Sometimes. Being controlled, ignored, ridiculed or disrespected.

9. My mom is a very nervous person.

10. Average. Yes

1. Prefer warm cozy room
2. These days I am extremely thirsty. I have been waking up with a dry mouth and need for water. I typically drink average water, but these days I need a lot. I am not that hungry these days. I have always been told that I eat like a bird. A little bit all day long.
3. I usually crave sweets like chocolate but it is hard on my stomach so I avoid it. I also like dairy but am lactose intolerant so I stick w/ goat products. I do not like red meat. I cannot drink alcoholic beverages. My diet is mostly fruits, vegetables, beans, fish, some pasta, and chicken.
4. Mean & insensitive people irritate me. I don’t like to see injustices.
5. Yes, I require a lot of support and words of confidence from others when I am down.
6. I like to be accompanied when I am depressed. Being alone only spirals me into a deeper depression.
7. Yes, but I feel like this was after I took homeopathic remedies starting last Sept. My anxiety makes me frustrated – I think about death and being sick a lot which depresses me. When I am alone, sometimes I just cry out of the blue.
8. I get moderate PMS. Definitely get sad before it starts. Have cramps & bloating. Very regular timing and moderate flow.
Thank you!
