fear and nervousness, terrified
Dear Doctor, my niece is afraid that people will come into the house. she has tro make sure that doors are locked. She has check three or four times that they are locked. terrified of being with wrong/ bad people, afraid of pain. not afraid of death but pain. have to sleep next to someone. suddenly gets this thought that something is going to happen and feels bad about the way she is afraid of everything and that gets everything still worse. dreams where she is awake partly, but cannot control thoughts. afraid to be in the room alone, but scared to go out. better in company worse alone. afraid for everyone that bad things could happen or some one can hurt the people she loves. anxiety. all this started after she read a book true accounts of murders. ever since she was little, terrified of bugs. does not want to kill it, but leaves the room in fear. cant sleep if she sees a bug. please suggest a remedy.kamalat on 2010-09-06

sorry for got to mention her age she is 15. she forgets about her fear if she is distracted by watching something funny on tv or listening to music. she plays cello herself.

She has been experiencing this for about two weeks ever since she read the book I mentioned earlier. She is not on any medication except for vitamins. She has been a very bright (i can say extraordinary as she was reading at 8th grade level when she was in 4th grade.)

She started her period at 12. had regular for 2 years. now it has been irregular. her last period is about 4 months before. she said her fear is not related to anything, she has always been like checking the doors before sleeping etc. but once she made sure, she was fine. but after reading this book of murders, she seems to be experiencing some fear. its all in the mind.. but she has a little excessive hiar on the face and ingeneral body. she seems ok now...but is sleeping with her parents in their room. cant sleep alone.
