These events hardly come under the category of accidents but they inevitably involve injury to the tissues and loss of blood. ARNICA 30 should always be given if possible both before and after the event. ACONITUM 30 may well be given to allay fear and appre¬hension before this type of ordeal, especially in the case of children or nervous adults. It is also of use afterwards if there is much restlessness and tendency to toss about.
CALENDULA lotion (ten drops of mother tincture to the half pint of water) should be used as a mouthwash after tooth extractions and HYPERICUM 30 given internally if there is much pain, instead of ARNICA.

This may not be easy, and will be impossible if there is persistence in giving way to, or harbouring, the harmful type of emotion, which saps nervous energy and produces both psychological and physical tension.
The types of emotion that are hostile to health can be summed up as fear, fury and frustration. Fear includes such satellites as worry, anxiety and apprehension. Fury comprises anger, inward rage, brooding over wrongs (real or imagined), bottling things up, resentment, 'the injured feeling' (closely akin to self-pity, a most harmful, unnecessary and unwise indulgence). Frustration finds expression in impatience, irritation, intolerance of persons or circumstances.
All such emotions, if persisted in, tend to produce tension and disturbance not merely of mind but also of various physical functions associated with secretion, circulation, digestion and so on. Per contra a consistent attitude of carefree cheerfulness, confidence and contentment is conducive to both peace of mind and ease of body.
This may appear to be a somewhat Utopian aim in this age of hectic hurry but it is not impossible of achievement, especially if every circumstance of environment and experience is regarded in the light of opportunity. The tendency to relate one's circum¬stances to oneself, as things that oppress, annoy, are unbearable, not to be tolerated and so on, must be resisted. Instead one must relate oneself to one's circumstances and go to meet them with quiet assurance, even with zest. It is the direction that matters.
No longer do circumstances hem one in and get one down, but they provide constant opportunity for endurance, for enjoyment, for interest, for entertainment, for achievement, for service. Life is no longer frustration; it is fun.
An established condition of nervous fatigue and emotional dis¬turbance demands the care and guidance of a physician. A re¬course to sedative drugs is not the answer. These tend to further depress the already depressed, and to interfere with that clarity of thought and reason so essential to the process of re-orientation. The issues are often quite simple if faced honestly and squarely, and not confused by a jumble of unintelligible jargon based on un¬substantiated hypotheses.
In times of sudden sorrow, stress, shock, and emotional upset from one cause or another a number of remedies have proved their worth (a dose or two of 200, a few doses of 30, or 6 for a short period):
ACONITUM acute anxiety; extreme impatience; horrible fears; intolerance of pain, music, least noise; confusion of mind; thoughts and ideas chase one another.
ARGENTUM NITRICUM fearful and apprehensive before ordeal of any kind; fear of heights, of crowds, of closed spaces, of water; stage fright; exam funk.
CAUSTICUM effects of grief or worry; unhappy, inclined to tears, hopeless; full of forebodings and vague fears; jumps at least noise; peevish, critical of others, forgetful.
CHAMOMILLA temper in a turmoil; everything wrong; extreme restlessness; trifles annoy; nothing pleases, everything intolerable.
GELSEMIUM depression, possibly after influenza; mind seems paralysed; listless, indolent, disinclined for any effort; fear of falling;, apprehension before ordeal; tremulous and shaky.
IGNATJA effects of sudden shock or stress; depressed and irritable; moods alternate; bottles things up; dwells on sorrows in secret; cannot forget; involuntary tears; frequent sighing; goes to pieces when crossed; cannot bear pain.
KALI PHOSPHORICUM effects of prolonged strain; lassitude and depression; averse from meeting people; jumpy and starts at least thing; everything too much trouble.
Nux VOMICA chilly, tense, active person; constantly 'frustrated'; quarrelsome, critical, hypersensitive, unduly exasperated by trifles; wants to throw things about.
PULSATILLA effects of bad news, anxiety, emotional upset, in mild, 'touchy', weepy, type of person, fond of company and averse from solitude; upsets felt mainly in stomach and may cause vomiting.
