Severe pollen allergy reaction

Hi: I have had severe pollen allergy for many years. I have tried different english medications every year and nothing has worked. My symptoms and continous sneezing and running nose. Itching eyes are very minor. I saw a posting saying I should take Bryonia.

"Bryonia 200c - 4 times a day for 5 days should relieve your problem for now"

Any recommendations. I am very new to Homeopathy. If anybody could provide me some pointers as what the best options are and what if there any after effects.

Please describe your symptoms.

1. Coryza: thick/thin/watery/bland/irritating...

2. Skin around your nostrils: red/ normal/itchy...

3. Lachrymation : bland/irritating...

4.Eyelids: normal/swollen/red...

5. What makes you feel better?

Here are the symptoms

1. running nose. watery
2. itcheness around the nostrils very minor. Not really abig problem.
3. eyelids normal.
4. I generally have this every year in spring(Apr, May, June)
5. Sneezing very hard. Sometimes continuosly 4-5 times.
6. get tired b'cos I sneeze so many times.

I have tried many things, but nothing really makes me feel better. Shower gives some minor relief for 10-30 minutes.

magicure: also when I wake up in the morning, my nose is all stuffed up so bad that I am breating with my mouth all night. My symptoms start about 30minutes-1hr after I wake up in the morning.

Hi Ravi,

Take Nux Vomica 200 for three consecutive nights. 4-5 pills on clean tongue. Dont eat/drink anything atleast for half an hour before and after taking the medicine.

Report back after 3 days.

If you suffer from this every year, you might need a constitutional remedy ( It is a specific remedy which takes into account all your physical as well as mental symptoms along with your dreams etc..) You might have to answer a questionnaire for that.

Right now, take Nux Vomica and report back.

magicure: thanks for your response. What does the 200 in the Nux Vomica 200 mean?. Also when you say 4-5 pills, what potency should each pill be?

Hi Ravi,

Nux Vomica is the name of a remedy. 200 is its potency. So if you get a bottle of Nux Vomica 200 , all the pills in it will be of 200 potency.

Take 4-5 pills for 3 consecutive nights.

magicure: the only potencies I see on this website (http://www.abchomeopathy.com/shop-j.php) are 3X, 6X, 30X, 3C, 6C, 30C. Any suggestions where I can find 200C or should just get 30C and substitute 6 of them.

In which country do you stay? ( I suppose Ravi is an Indian name :-)

All the potencies of Nux vomica are easily available in any homeopathic pharmacy in India.

If you are not in India, you can try 30C potency right now. Get the smallest available bottle.

Please let me know the progress.

Hi again,

I forgot to mention about the dose.

Take Nux Vomica 30C, 4-5 pills on clean tongue. ( other precautions remain the same)

Avoid night watching, try to sleep on time as far as possible. Avoid spicy food for 2-3 days , and let me know how you feel.

Yes I am from from India. But i am in the US. Not sure if this matters. I was raised in India and never had this problem. I have had this problem every spring for last 8 years. It's defintely something do with something in the air in spring. The only thing that helps me is if it rains outside.

Hi Ravi,

There are many reasons why Combination of different remedies is NOT adviced in homoeopathy.

The most important reason is , we dont know which remedy is acting, so we cant decide about the further course of action.

Also, these remedies were proved singly, so combination is Anti- homoeopathy.

I would NOT recommend any combination pills.

Please stick to a single remedy at a time.

Homeopathy does not treat any disease, but rather it is used to treat the person, thus teaching the person's immune system does the
healing. Homeopathy is based on the belief that staying healthy means treating the whole person addressing your mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs.

If you have some health problem and suffering from pollen allergy you can take one dose of Nux vomica 30C than you can take one daily dose of Pollen 30 and report after 14 days.

Ravi is right do not take any combination.

magicuer and Dr Saleem: thank you for your feedback. I have ordered Nux Vomica 30C. I will take 4 of the tablets everynight 30 minutes before I go to sleep. Will update you in 2 weeks.

magicure: I got the 30C potency pills today. Just want to reconfirm. I need to take 4 pills before I go to bed and atleast 1/2 hour after dinner. Correct?. B'cos I saw the following on the same site:

"Take two tablets every two hours for the first six doses, and then four times daily for up to five days."

Please advise.

Hi Ravi,

Take 4 pills for three consecutive nights on CLEAN TONGUE. So, dont eat/drink anything atleast for half an hour before and after taking the medicine.

So, after having dinner, brush your teeth, then wait for half an hour and then take the medicine. Dont eat/drink anything after that atleast for 30 minutes.

Report back about your condition.

magicure: one more question. Is it normal for the symptoms to increase the first time I take the tablets? I took the tablets last night. But was not able to sleep well b'cos of itchy eyes and stuffed nose.

It might be a proof that the medicine is acting, but nothing can be said at this stage.

Were your present symptoms just AGGRAVATED, and there were no NEW symptoms? Apart from physical complaints , how were you feeling in general?

Anyways, take the medicine tonight and report back.

magicure: yes the present symptoms just AGGRAVATED. No new symptoms. In general I don't think it has improved. But it rained a couple of times and that has defintely given me relief.

As suggested by magicure I have been taking 4 pills of Nux Vomica 30c every night 30 minutes after dinner before going to sleep. I had some aggrevation the first night but nothing after that. Overall I have been feeling good the last few days. This may be due to the fact it rained and got cold again and so the pollen count is low. The problems I have in the night during sleep are nose getting stuffed and little bit of itchy eyes. During the stay I sneeze ocasionally and also experience running nose ocasionally.

My question is should I be taking the medication during day time also instead of taking all the pills before I go to sleep.

Hi Ravi,

How is your stuffed nose/ sneezing since we started with Nux Vomica? Is it better/ just the same/ worse?

If you are better now, dont take any medicine.

If you start getting SAME symptoms, you can immediately take one dose (same instructions). Its okay to take Nux vomica during day.

Magicure: here's my condition for the last 3 days. I have not taken the medication.

Day 1: not much different. Have been sneezing little bit. Running nose ocasionally. Was able to sleep better tonight. Woke up the next day with significantly less stuffed nose and severity of dryness in mouth was less too.
Day 2: same as day 1. Have been sneezing little bit more than yesterday. Running nose ocasionally. Woke up the next day with significantly less stuffed nose and severity of dryness in mouth was less too.
Day 3: Symptoms a little more severe than the previous 2 days. Mostly a lot of sneezing and little bit of running nose. Dryness in mouth has reduced significantly.

So based on your last message, since I am getting the same symptoms, I should take the 4-5 pills every day for 3 more days and watch again for 3 days? Please confirm

Hi Ravi,

No more medicine.

Homoeopathic remedies continue acting for a long time (even after you have stopped taking the medicines)

So wait and watch for your symptoms.
If they change, or get worse, post back immediately.

Also, do you suffer from this complaint every year? since how many years? Do you have any other illness?

Yes I have this problem every spring. I came to US in 1994 and have had this since 1996 (about 9-10 years). Have no other illnes.

Interesting! I was one like Ravi and the pollen allergy started for me in my third year of stay in the US. One of the prime reasons for people coming from tropical climates into a colder climate like of US develop this allergy because we have not grown up with these kind of pollens in our country! But all said and done, homeopathy is the only cure that I know of having personally gone through this. In one reading of Kent, he had mentioned it takes almost 3-5 years with homeopathy to get rid of this and I fully agree with him.

You would have to start looking into various constitutional remedies and keep in mind that this is going to be a slow process that at times will be very frustrating but if you are patient enough, you will be rewarded!
I am suggesting few of the constitutional remedies but prescription of which cannot be made until we know all your past history.
Psorinum - 1M
Sulphur - 1M
Pulsatill- IM

Remember, Psorinum and Sulpur can be taken one after the other with a gap of a week and one might have to continue to use these medicines for 3-4 years, so keep you patience!
After fvourable responses, one can start taking 10M doses but again somebody will have to watch your progress very closely and you'll have to keep informing about the same.

Now to relieve your immediate symptoms, you might want to look into medicines like Succinic Acid (6x, 30X), Ambrosia (30x), Bacinillum (30x).
There are tons of other immediate relief medicines that may suit you.
I am listing some of the main medicines above and since I have very little time these days to follow up on any prescribing that I might be willing to do, I am passing this information for other prescribers to look into and if needed, they can get back with me for more details.
