acl tear

I twisted my knee around a month back while playing badminton and was diagnosed with acl tear. The orthopaedic whom I initially consulted suggested surgery straightaway(w/o any physiotherapy!!!! ). I decided to get a second opinion and consulted a physio & orthopedic both of whom happened to be from the same hospital & they said mine appears to be a partial tear and I should go for PT first and after 1-1.5 months depending on the outcome of PT surgery can be considered(although as per them probably I may not need a surgery at all!!!).

I am a 27 year old male, considerably fit and used to work out regularly prior to injury. My knee has considerably improved not fully though, still face lot of stiffness(causing limp while walking fast) & cannot bend my leg fully backwards.

Any suggestions on this please, I need loads of them as am in a lot of dilema due to difference of opinions I have been receiving....

Between for the past 3-4 days I have started to take RUTA 30C...

Warm Regards,
RN

Dear Doctor,

I have ordered for Rhus tox 30c in a nearby medical shop, would be procuring it tomorrow. Would you kindly also let me know your future prescription as well, reason being homeo medicines are not available that easily and I need to place an order in advance...

Further had a query, As I understand ACL does not repair on its own due to unavailability of blood supply. Per your experience have you come across any patients whose ligament tears have cured with homeo medicines?

Warm regards,
RN

Get rhus tox. 200c and rhus tox 1M. Also get arnica 200c, 1M, Ruta 200c. Will let you know other medicines later as we go forward.

Homeopathy has a great role to play in injuries and most of the times it can be used to heal things to avoid surgery.

some questions:

How were you feeling with ruta 30c?

Is this the first tear? Do you get sprains often? How is your general profile? Do you have any other issues?

Describe yourself as a person and how you're different from others. Include personality details, emotional aspects.

Do you have any desires/aversions in food items and in general?

How do heat/cold impact you?

Any other details?

Dear Sir,

Thanks for responding.

PFB the answers to your questions:

1)Its been just 4-5 days since I started with RUTA 30C but I do feel a change in my knee, earlier I used to feel uneasy(stiffness) while laying down and straightening my legs completely now I don't. Although I am not sure whether it's due to RUTA 30C or the PT sessions I have undertaken :)...

2)Yes its my first tear..

3)Although I do not get sprains that often I do get spasms once in a while in my back & neck...
Healthwise I am pretty OK, I do not have any health issues except for once in a while headache which I get mostly when I use a strong perfume/deo. Last major illness that I had was jaundice which I had more than 12 years ago..

Height:6'0
Weight:75 Kgs(was 80 till 2 months back, after injury I stopped weight training and reduced protein intake in my diet)

4) As a person I am pretty much straight-forward, people find me helpful and trustworthy, I appear to cool & composed from the outside but become agitated pretty often although I try to control as much as I can, to make it short you can call me an emotional idiot:) who once makes an opinion about something or someone never changes....

5) I am not a foodie & eat just to fill up my stomach no particular likes or dislikes, I avoid sweets though as both my parents are diabetic....

6)Weather does not affect me at all, I am OK with most...

Warm Regards,
RN

Hi Maheeru,

I have procured Rhus tox and continuing as prescribed. My knee has considerably improved and I can feel the strength coming back, however I still do not have full confidence on my knee. Another thing I think worth mentioning is although I hardly feel any pain, but I do feel a burning sensation on the side and in the middle of the knee sometimes, is it normal?

Waiting for your suggestions eagerly.

PS: I am undergoing PT for ACL rehab as well.

Warm Regards,
RN

Ratish, How many doses of rhus tox have you taken till now?

'but I do feel a burning sensation on the side and in the middle of the knee sometimes,'

Since when are you noticing this?

maheeru last decade
Hi Maheeru,

Its been just 1 day since I started taking RHus Tox, reason is I had a hard time procuring it, this was the reason I had requested you to provide all the further prescriptions you might be suggesting, I have placed an order for all the names you had given, hopefully wud be getting them soon:)

Now regarding the burning sensation - its been quite sometime now maybe over 10 days it happens mostly while being seated on a chair in a normal position ie when thighs & shin are at 90 degrees(with knee brace on).

Also in the past 10-12 days there is a prominent clicking sound in both my knees while standing up from a seated position.

PS: I have been using a hinged knee brace on suggestion of my physiotherapist for the past 1 month.

Warm Regards,
RN

Check out if the pain recurs if you do not use the brace.

This popping sensation is normal. With time as your tear heals, it'd get better.

Ok continue rhustox as was suggested. Be patient, injuries take a little time to heal in full.

maheeru last decade
Hi Maheeru,

There is no pain only a burning sensation and yes happens only when I have the brace on.

I will get back in a few days after completing the current dose. Thanks for the help.

Maheeru,

I am done with the prescribed dosage, could you please suggest further? My knee has just slightly improved, although I still do not have confidence in my knee and limp around.

Hi Maheeru,

4 days have now passed by, could you please suggest further?I feel pain only when I completely bend my leg backwards or when I keep my absolutely leg straight & try to stiffen it up.

During these days I have been speaking to many people who had ACL injury, all of them opted for surgery, some of them after 2,3,10 years. I am becoming more & more sceptical
that surgery may be the only option:(

Kindly suggest.

Ratish Nair

Ratish you are improving when you say, the pain has gone down and it pains only when you completely bend your leg in certain positions. If you're getting better why would you have to fall in the trap of surgery or being sceptical?

Please take Rhus tox. 200c 2 pills/drops twice daily for a week and report after 10 days.

maheeru last decade
Thanks a lot Maheeru, will do as suggested and get back.

Apologies for my state of my mind, as I am getting frustrated on many things which I am missing due to this injury. And as I said I am yet to come across someone who is living happily without an ACL, only met people who had undertaken surgery.

PS: Always had high regards for both homeopathy and ayurved, infact it was ayurved which cured my sinus problem during adolescence & teen years. So not an iota of doubt on homepath/ayurved abilities.

Hi Maheeru,

Apologies for the delay in responding back due to unavoidable circumstances. Upon insistence of our family physician and discussions with few other doctors I decided to undergo surgery and currently 10 days post op.

The prescriptions suggested by you previously did help in stabilising my knee. Hence could you kindly look into my case again and suggest so that my recovery could be quick and smooth.

I am currently undergoing physiotherapy which is going pretty well and do not have any pain in my knee. As far as the surgery is concerned my ACL was replaced with hamstring graft.

Warm Regards,
RN.

Ratish

I believe you underwent the surgery after knowing about the risks associated with it.

How was the stability of knee before surgery? Has it changed in either way post surgery?

So what are your issues now post surgery?

maheeru last decade
Hi Maheeru,

After weighing the pros and cons, I thought surgery was the best option for me and I did so after consulting 4 orthopaedic surgeons.

Although I was able to carry out my daily chores & had full range of motion pre surgery but never had confidence on my knee, always had a feeling it will give away. I was even afraid of crossing roads.
Its been only 10 days post surgery but am able to contract my knee cap fully something which I couldn't before surgery. Currently I am undergoing PT and having a brace on 24 hours which does not allow any knee bending and move around with crutches.
As per the surgeon I will be able to move around without support 4 weeks post surgery and return to high level sporting activities in 4-6 months time.

I have spoken to few who underwent knee surgeries even worse cases than mine and came to know homeopatheic medicines help greatly in post-op recovery and for this reason wanted to opt for homeopatheic remedy as well.

So if you could suggest a way forward I would be grateful.

Regards,
RN

Maheeru, Could you kindly also let me know possible risks you forsee as your comment 'I believe you underwent the surgery after knowing about the risks associated with it.'

has made left me a bit worried :(.

As far as I heard ACL reconstruction surgery is pretty common & safe these days and people more often than not come out safely.
Apart from few of my commoner friends, Tiger Woods, Michael Owen, Rooney, Sania Mirza, many NFL players, are all doing fine.

I just hope and pray to Almighty that I'll be fine.

Regards,
RN.

Ratish

Risks of ACL surgery include infection, persistent instability, occasional recurrence, pain and swelling during daily activities or sports, numbness, loss of motion in the knee joint, grating (or grinding) of the kneecap, effusion in the knee, stiffness, graft impingement, post-surgical arthritis and difficulty returning to one's previous level of activity. These risks are not absolute certainty and will not happen to everyone who undergoes surgery. Overall the risk is 10%.

As the saying goes 'Think before you leap', now you have leapt, do not bother with reverse thinking, it'll just make you feel bad. Stay positive and we'll be able to firefight issues if they come up (Yes even though surgeries may cost more than 30k and bring up issues.... thankfully alternative therapies have a great role to help with the fire-fighting).

------------

Now, you need to take arnica 200c and Hypericum 200c 2 pills/drops each twice daily for 5 days.

Get calendula 30c, calendula ointment/cream(for external application on surgical sites).

Hi,

I have a ligament tear in my right knee's ACL, My MRI report said 'Tear of the ACL'. Does this mean my ACL is completely torn or it is partially torn?? I consulted a doctor he explained me about surgery and other options.
But i dont want to go for surgery, it is been more than 6 months since i met my doctor, I can walk properly without any discomfort, I can stand properly on right knee, but some times i feel like my knee is very tight ( when i walk i feel like i cant move knee very freely). If i try to run in a straight line also it is fine, but if i try to run side ways, then i feel like, i may fall or like my knee is giving away. If i strain my knee too much then i get pain in my knee.
Can you please suggest me some medicines to recover from my acl tear. It will be very very helpful for me

Hi- I suggest that you make a new
post- and put Kadwa in your headline-
He has helped a lot of people with
your problem.

(you are posting on an old thread and
he may not see it)

Hello Siva

Please take Bryonia 200c two pills or drops two times a day for 4 days. Report changes in a week.

It probably is a partial tear.

Guidelines:

1) Do not take anything solid or liquid for half an hour before and after the dose.

2) Try to avoid taking coffee, tea, alcohol on the day of medicine and a week following the medicine.

3) Try to avoid the exposure to mint based substances, camphor based substances and also strong smelling substances including incense and strong perfumes.
