The ABC Homeopathy Forum

I think I need Sepia... ??

I'm new to the forums, so please be gentle!

I am very interested in homeopathy and used a few things during child labour earlier in the year.

I have been doing some research to a few of my problems and based on the results, Sepia seems to be the answer - just how much and how often.

In short, I suffer with constant vaginal discharge for at least the past 3.5 years. It is not related to thrush or bacterial vaginosis, etc. The GP can not find any cause or cure and has suggested counselling for me to 'come to terms' with it. It is very problematic to me in that I must wear a liner or 2 every day and it puts me off intimacy with my husband. WORSE/BETTER: pretty constant

Additionally, I am a very short-fused/irritable/angry person. I had a very difficult childhood including various abuses (non-sexual). WORSE: When tired & more with my husband than anyone else!
BETTER: After eating

Lastly, and most unfortunately, since getting married 3 years ago, I have become disinterested in sexual intimacy with my husband. I cannot understand why it has happened. WORSE/BETTER: no difference

Sleep pattern: erratic. I have an 8.5 month old lad! I have high sleep needs and used to get to sleep at 10:30 and wake at 7:30 regularly, if not sleeping in longer at the weekend!

I do not like being out in the cold. I dislike the wind. I do not like being touched, especially lightly or by multiple people - it's sort of sensory overload!

I am suffering with post-partum depression and am taking Citalopram (anti-d).

I prefer fruits and am not mad about chocolates or rich-type sweets. Hate peanuts/peanut butter.

I usually have cold hands and feet, but lately have been waking too hot in the night.

I am 6'1' and naturally very thin (8.5 stone).

Welcome to any help or suggestions! Thank you so much!

Sepia seems well indicated in your case.

You might start with Sepia 30c. One pellet dissolved into a 10oz container of water. Let it dissolve and then drink one tablespoon.

Report any effect here.

Thank you very much for your time.

I have purchased 30c Sepia pills. Is that still ok? If so, how often and when shall I take these?

Thank you, again!

Sorry, re: onosmodium, is it 30c or 30x? Would you recommend pillules or liquid?

If liquid, in how much water?

There are actually many remedies for this condition. I have seen it quite often in clinic - Sepia is used far too often when more suitable remedies for that individual are available. It is possible that Sepia might help, but it is also possible that one of the 104 other remedies listed for Loss of Sexual Desire could also be appropriate.

Sepia has its own unique take on the problem. The deepest level of cure comes from matching how you feel and see your problem to a remedy known to have similar feelings.

If you do decide to use Sepia, I would suggest continuing to provide information here in case it does not work, so that we can to make further suggestions.

My intake form is a bit different

GUIDELINES FOR GIVING HOMOEOPATHIC CASE INFORMATION

It is important to describe all your problems in as much detail as you are able. One word answers and short sentences are not particularly helpful. Discuss each problem one at a time, providing (as a minimum level of detail) the following information.

1. What exactly happens?
2. Describe all sensations and pains. Each pain or sensation should be described in such a way that allows us to imagine having the same pain.
3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring?
4. What creates some relief for the problem?
5. What triggers the problem into occuring?
6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur?
7. When did the problem start? What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started?

Move from one problem to the next, doing the same thing.

As well as this, please describe any traumatic indicidents that have taken place in your life. Discuss anything that has had a lasting impact on you mentally, emotionally or physically.

Discuss the way that you manage or deal with your problems, or any problems that occur in your life.

Discuss any patterns you have noticed in your behavior.

Discuss any part of your life where you feel stuck or unable to change and grow.

Describe your childhood and the kind of environment you grew up in, with reference to your relationships with your family, your school experiences, and any serious childhood diseases.

If your earlier discussions have not mentioned these already, please describe:

1. The specific foods that you crave (not just like) or hate
2. The specific drinks that you crave or hate
3. What your sleep is like
4. How the weather and the temperature affects you
5. What kinds of things in the environment you are particularly sensitive to
6. What your general level of energy is like
7. What your level of sexual energy or desire is like

In terms of the specifics you have already provided, can you please expand on the following:

Describe 'short-fused'

Describe more on the abuse in your childhood.

Describe your feelings towards sex.

Describe the relationship between yourself and your husband.

Describe the relationship between yourself and your son.

Describe 'sensory overload'

Describe your depression.

A remedy when given, should change all your major problems not just one. If Sepia is correct, it will make a big change to all the different issues you have (which will in actuality be one main issue).

Thanks for your reply, David! I'll try to answer the following as best as I can:

VAGINAL DISCHARGE:
1. What exactly happens? I have a constant discharge. It can very in thickness/colour/odour but it has been ever-present for at least 3.5 years. I cannot recall what brought it on or exactly when it started.
2. Describe all sensations and pains. There are no sensations or pains, just a constant discharge! I need to wear a liner every day and sometimes change it multiple times a day. Because it is there, I do not like changing position in the day (sitting to standing, and vice versa) and especially going out in the cold (because the discharge becomes cold and uncomfortable!)
3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring? Unfortunately, I have not noticed any patter in worse or better. It seems to be very gradually becoming heavier.
4. What creates some relief for the problem? I have found no relief. I have tried prescription medication as well as topical with no change at all.
5. What triggers the problem into occurring? The problem is constant.
6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur? The discharge seems to be more heavy throughout the day compared to night, but I would not be comfortable going to bed without a liner in.
7. When did the problem start? What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started? Unfortunately, I cannot recall when the problem began. It will have definitely been after I left the States (high emotion, depression, loss of connection with family).

SHORT FUSE:
1. What exactly happens? I am very quick to anger; irritable & “snappy”, especially with loved ones (namely my husband). I have difficultly controlling my anger, but am usually quick to calm and apologise.
2. Describe all sensations and pains. Each pain or sensation should be described in such a way that allows us to imagine having the same pain. N/A
3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring? Fatigue, not enough sleep, other stresses, depression, etc.
4. What creates some relief for the problem? The Citalopram (anti-d) does seem to help, or it did definitely at the beginning of my PPD.
5. What triggers the problem into occurring? Things not going my way, disagreements, interruptions, if I feel something was stupid (said/done/queried).
6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur? Whenever I’m awake!!
7. When did the problem start? What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started? I have always been short tempered, even as a child.

LOSS OF LIBIDO:
1. What exactly happens? I am not interested in intimacy (whether the sexual act or physical affection). I resist arousal and try to avoid those situations at all costs.
2. Describe all sensations and pains. Each pain or sensation should be described in such a way that allows us to imagine having the same pain. N/A
3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring? I build up anxiety if I think that I may be going in this direction. I become tense and stressed and completely resistant to even the thought of intimacy. I think I build it up badly in my mind. Most of time, after the fact, I think back: that wasn’t so bad…
4. What creates some relief for the problem? Um, feeling that I’m not going to be pressured or expected to be intimate!
5. What triggers the problem into occurring? Feeling pressure on myself to be intimate – whether by myself or my husband.
6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur? N/A
7. When did the problem start? What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started? My husband and I were not sexually active before we were married, so it will have been after marriage (3 years ago). I often say that it was like a big switch was turned off – I’m just not interested!

As well as this, please describe any traumatic incidents that have taken place in your life. Discuss anything that has had a lasting impact on you mentally, emotionally or physically. As a child and teenager, I was emotionally & verbally abused by my father and stepmother and physically abused by my father. My parents were divorced when I was 3 and the custody battles were ongoing throughout my childhood & adolescence. I was raped by 2 men when I was 18 and disbelieved by my family. The disbelief was more damaging than the act. I consciously do not believe that any of that has had a lasting impact – I do not dwell on these things – but I imagine that subconsciously there is a lot going on!

Discuss the way that you manage or deal with your problems, or any problems that occur in your life. Um, I suppose that I sweep them under the carpet and leave them until they don’t mean as much, then I revisit and quickly dispose. I build a lot of walls and make a point of not being vulnerable so that I cannot be hurt.

Discuss any patterns you have noticed in your behaviour. My parents often stated that I live in cycles of behaviour – “good” behaviour then “bad” and round and round. My husband comments that I live in types of waves – good moods followed by depressive and up and down.

Discuss any part of your life where you feel stuck or unable to change and grow. Consciously, I cannot think of anything that is applicable here.

Describe your childhood and the kind of environment you grew up in, with reference to your relationships with your family, your school experiences, and any serious childhood diseases. As above, I grew up in a very tumultuous home with lots of step-/half-siblings. Always being compared by parents and always “your child/my child”. I do not have close relationships with any of my family.

If your earlier discussions have not mentioned these already, please describe:

1. The specific foods that you crave (not just like) or hate. I HATE peanuts/peanut butter. I do not crave foods. In pregnancy, I craved spaghetti Bolognese in thought but it never tasted as I imagined it would.
2. The specific drinks that you crave or hate. None
3. What your sleep is like: I have high sleep needs, but with such a little baby, they are greatly interrupted and erratic.
4. How the weather and the temperature affects you. I miss the sun and warmth of my native Texas. I become tense and irritable in the cold/wind. I HATE my clothes being wet.
5. What kinds of things in the environment you are particularly sensitive to. I do not particularly understand this question or how to answer it…
6. What your general level of energy is like. I have, and have always had, low energy. I am not energetic and do not like sports or athletics.
7. What your level of sexual energy or desire is like. Non-existent!

In terms of the specifics you have already provided, can you please expand on the following:

Describe 'short-fused' – quick to anger over generally insignificant things. Discussions and disagreements will quickly escalate to shouting and a full-blown argument.

Describe more on the abuse in your childhood – I was the “whipping” girl of my family. Always in trouble, always being punished (I was not a bad child – I made good grades in school and did not enter into drinking/drugs/promiscuity, etc). I was hit, slapped, pulled, pushed, dragged, etc. I was left with marks and bruises on my back at one point and my face on another. When I left the states, 95% of my belongings were packed up and thrown away without me getting to pick what stayed and what went. I was called names, etc.

Describe your feelings towards sex. Um, this is a difficult one! I suppose that I would like to feel positive toward it and would like to have it as part of my marriage, but at the moment I feel that it is a burden and that I am too tired for it.

Describe the relationship between yourself and your husband. We are best friends. We work very well together and do our best to communicate well. We care very much for each other – but seem to be more like roommates at the moment.

Describe the relationship between yourself and your son. I am a full time working mother. I had to go back to work full-time when he was 3 months old. I try very hard to make sure that he is given the best care that I can afford and provide, but I spend little time with him because of work and commitments at this point in time. He is a smashing lad and so smart and strong.

Describe 'sensory overload' – a bit like too many things are happening at once. I feel irritated and frustrated by this.

Describe your depression. At its worst, like I’m at the bottom of a black hole and I will never smile or be happy again. It is generally triggered by my son’s crying.

Again – thank you so much for taking the time! I greatly appreciate it. If I need to elaborate on any points, please do say so!

I don't have the time to start new cases, but there are many other Sepia symptoms in this case even at a glance.

vaginal discharge, decrease in sexual desire, irritable, problems that develop after giving birth, almost any menstrual irregularity, the arguable nature.

Even with the new information, my recommendation is to start with Sepia.

INSTRUCTIONS
You might start with Sepia 30c. One pellet dissolved into a 10oz container of water. Let it dissolve and then drink one tablespoon.

Report any effect here.

Thank you very much, Dr Adeel.

I have done some research of my own and also feel that Sepia is the right one for me.

I have already purchased Sepia 30C and will try that first based on the previous advice and let you know how I'm doing.

Thank you for taking the time.

Please report the effect of your first dose of Sepia 30c.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Hello, sorry I just saw this reply.

I can't see much of a difference, to be honest. There are no ill side effects (I had some headaches, but I don't know if that was work related!).

I've just come off my menstrual cycle and can now pay attention to the discharge more carefully.

I will keep on and see how we go!

Just out of curiosity, please can you tell me why it is adviseable to take this as a tablespoonfull of 'sepia water' rather than dissolved on/under the tongue? I've been dying to know!

Thanks!

Hi. I made the recommendation for your daughter, so I'll follow up on both of your cases. :)

If you took the first dose about 7 days ago, you can take a second dose.

If you saved the container from last time, then shake the container 15 times, and then drink 1 tablespoon of the liquid.

If you didn't save it last time, then dissolve one pellet of Sepia 30c into 10oz of water, shake it 15 times, and take one tablespoon.

Please report anything different that you notice afterward.

+

In homeopathy, we always dissolve the remedy in water, though not many homeopaths understand this advanced method. Unfortunately, manufactures don't explain this either.

You can learn more about this here.

...I don't have a daughter...

And I'm taking it daily, is that not right? Is it only meant to be once a week?

MrsKW last decade
Sorry, I confused two discussions. It's difficult to see different conversations at the same time when I'm accessing the forum via phone.

....

You say that you've been taking the a dose daily. Have you noticed any affect at all?

The correct way to use a remedy is to dissolve one pellet into water. I usually start web cases on a pellet in 10oz. Before every use, shake the container 15 times, and then drink one tablespoon.

If you are using it daily without any effect, then the strength might be too low.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
I'll be honest, I am using it daily and don't see an effect, really. I had been dissolving it on my tongue, so will start doing it in 10oz of water and see what happens.

I'd bought a fair few of the 30c, so in an attempt to be frugal, would like to use them first! Can I take more than one, or several Tbsp in a day? Or do I just need to get over it and up the strength?

Thanks very much!!

MrsKW last decade
We always use the remedy in water, but that usually makes it more gentle, so I don't expect that to make much of a difference.

If you haven't noticed any effect good or bad, then let's start with two tablespoons per day, shaking it 15 times before each use.

We'll keep slowly increasing the strength until we see an effect.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
Thanks very much!

Silly question: 2 Tbsp one after the other, or in morning & evening, etc?

MrsKW last decade
Take one pellet of the Sepia 30c, and dissolve it in a bottle of approx. 10oz bottled water.

Before each use give the container 15 shakes, and then drink two tablespoons of it. I recommend taking it in the morning right after waking up.

Homeopathy International 1 last decade
If you still don't see any difference good or bad, we can increase the strength.

Hi., I am suffering from frequent urination during night times. Almost 6-8 times with an interval of 15-20 minutes in each spell.

This has totally resulted in loss of sleep and made me to be awaken all the times.

I hope, you would definitely suggest me the good medicine which works out well, where this problem can completely be eliminated.
