hylands kids cough medicine

sorry if this is long...my granddaughter who is 22 months old has a nasty cough(mostly at night) and a runny nose. she has had it for a couple weeks and the nurse said if we found an over the counter medication for 2 and up to go ahead and give her the 2 yr old dose. hyland's kids cough and cold medicine was the only one we could find and we were happy to try it. thinking homeopathic would be a better way to go. So it has helped but we noticed because you couldn't miss it that she started throwing tantrums. she is usually pretty good about explaining what she wants, she's very verbal she had a vocab of 140 words at 18 months and now speaks in sentences, and she's a little spoiled but she tends toward nagging or negotiating because she knows that works better than screaming but now she screams and throws herself down even when getting what she wants. my mother(great grandma) who has not given her the medicine when she stayed there says she doesn't do this at her house so maybe its the new medicine. which i admit to mentioning to my daughter. so long story short is there anyway this could be causing it or did she just turn into a heathen over night?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
So her behavior totally changed after using the medicine? Yes, it is responsible. It is extremely important that they stop using it.

It is possibly a side effect, or it is also possible the medicine suppressed the original problem and created a new one.
