8m.o. baby up in night with cough

Hi! I'm new to this forum, and extremely interested and overwhelmed by the help homeopathic remedies have given myself and my baby over the past 8 months.

My 8 month old daughter has had a cold for the past 2 weeks. It's mainly watery but thicker light yellow mucas when sneezing. My main concern is her cough which she wakes every night after a few hours with and coughs a few times, then tries to sleep, then again, after a minute..this goes on repeatedly for nearly an hour. She does'nt really get too distressed, and we have a humidifier in the room which i think helps a bit. It's just so tiring for all of us and has gone on so long now. I've tried 1 Belladona followed by Phosphorus 15 mins later, and sometimes I'll give her Ferrum Phos or Arsum Alb in the day.. Am I doing the right thing?

I hope this information I've given is ok, and I havnt gone on too much? Please tell me if i have so i know for future posts.

Thank you, Suzi

Hello Suzi.

Can you say something about the cough, it is a dry cough or cough with mucus? Cough shortly after she has gone to bed. Is there a particular odor from her mouth?

Is it so that it is dry cough at night, but loose during the day?
Other things you have noticed such a pain in the neck, diarrhea, etc.

Thank you Parakletos. She hardly coughs at all in the day, she's just a bit snotty, tired and more clingy than usual. She starts to cough about 4 hours after putting her to bed. it sounds a bit rattly like there is a bit of mucus there and she sometimes swallows after coughing. It does sound dry too. I dont think there's a bad smell but because i have a cold and Rhinitus, i dont have good sense of smell. She's had bit of Diarrhea, not passed stool for 2 days now,and i dont think she's stiff in the neck but it's hard to tell. Than you

Hello again. It was a quick answer. :-)
Well, I think the right medicine is Sulphur. In 30C. Do you have the opportunity to obtain the liquid type? If not then you can take 4-5 pills, crush them in a glass of clean water. After you've mixed them into the water, take a teaspoon of this water. You can give a teaspoon about every half hour. If you notice that she gets better, stop the medication.
(Same procedure if you have the liquid kind.)

You must not give any other medicine. And the medicine must be given at least a half hour before or after food.

Good luck, and you just have to ask whether there are any questions.

Parakletos.

Thank you. I only have the taplet remedy. Can you tell me why it doesnt say anything about coughs or cold under Sulphur in the book i have that goes with the remedies? It just says Sulphur is for skin complaints. Are you a Homeopathist? I hope you dont mind me asking. i am new to all of this. Thanks for your reply x

Does not sound like serious homeopathy literature.
Sulphur is widely used homeopathic remedy, even when it comes to cough. Have given it several times, with good results in similar cases.
You write that you have Sulphur in tablet form? Do you know in what potency?

And yes, I am a homeopath. Norwegian classical homeopath.

Thank you. Yes I have Sulphur, in 30C. The book i have is very small, i have just found where it says about sulphur for coughs and it says to give if there is blood. Anyway i will try your suggestion, and thank you kindly for your time x

Can i just give her the sulpur pills without crushing them? Is it necessary to give so many?

Is she able to put the pills under her tongue and sucking on them?

3-4 pills in a glass of water is a better solution, I think. This saves you the medicine. And easier to give to your daughter. Add the pills between two spoons and squeeze until they break, in a glass. Fill with water, stir until they are dissolved in water. Put a lid on the jar and put it in the refrigerator. Give a teaspoon of this water, before she settles to sleep.

Sulpher is not indicated here in the case.

It is a common whooping cough of small children.

Please give Mephitis 30 few doses and see the change. For your satisfaction refer any materia medica and confirm.

Hello!
Have you given her Sulphur? And in case you have done so, is there any change?

Regarding the proposal to take Mephitis Mephitica, this is a description of this medicine:

'General
A great medicine for WHOOPING-COUGH. Suffocative feeling, asthmatic paroxysms, spasmodic cough; cough so violent, seems as if each spell would terminate life. Child must be raised up, gets blue in face, cannot exhale. Mucous rales through upper part of chest. Patient wants to bathe in ice-cold water.'

Do you find this similar to your daughter's symptoms?
