Speech dyspraxia

I am a trained but inexperienced homoeopath. I am trying to help the 4 year old daughter of a friend who has speech dyspraxia and I am having difficulties finding the right remedy - any pointers would be appreciated.

The girl has perfect verbal understanding - is very alert, very sociable and normal in every other sense - however she is unable to say anything in an intelligible way - so she speaks using strange sounds - consistently the same sounds for the same words - as if she has her own language.

She has a strong personality, is calm, and somewhat orderly. Blonde with blue eyes.

She enjoys company and doesn't like to be left out - stands up for herself if she is.

She mainly likes to eat meat - refuses vegetables or fruit. She drinks juice at room temperature and also likes warm tea.

She sleeps well (on her back)

She is generally in excellent health - rarely ever gets sick.

Unlike her 2 siblings, she has always been very clingy towards her mother - not in a whiny or needy way - somehow in an assertive way.

Her birth was natural, though traumatic for the mother - she arrived at the hospital too late for pain killers to be administered and experienced horrific pain and said she was traumatised by it. I treated the mother at the time and she responded very well to Ars 1M.

There is a huge history of dyslexia in the family. The father is extremely dyslexic, the mother's mother is dyslexic and 2 siblings are dyslexic.

One thing the mother mentioned about the child is that she is very sensitive to what is going on around her - she described it as if the child has a 6th sense.

There is nothing else that really stands out.

Constitutionally she may be a phosphourous. None of the standard dyslexia remedies stand out for me, neither do remedies for 'speech difficult', or ' speech unintelligble'. I am wondering about Lac Maternum. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Hi Slane.

I am also a trained homoeopath. Welcome to the forum and into the profession! :)

This isn't a very long case - are these all your notes?

What remedies have you tried so far?

Has the child been vaccinated and did she react to any of them (or develop symptoms close to one of them)?

Children's cases I can find very easy or very hard, often nothing in-between. Food cravings and aversions are often not very useful as children naturally try, reject and accept many foods at a rapidly changing pace. Fears and obsessive behaviours are often valuable.

I sometimes find the symptoms, feelings, state of the mother during pregnancy can help point towards the remedy. The birth can be used this way as well - the trauma from pain could very well point to the remedy. Exploring that even in detail with the mother, and then using those feelings and expressions for the child might be helpful.

The remarkable family history of dyslexia must also be important - that should point you towards the miasm I would think. Dyslexia itself won't tell you which miasm but the qualities within might. A common disease reoccurring amongst family members implies a miasmatic link.

Thank you very much for your response. It is always helpful to receive the perspective of an experienced practitioner. I assume from your username that you are in Brisbane. I spent a few pleasant 3 months there once. I live in Ireland now.

Yes, I have more notes but nothing really particularly relevant.

Yes the child was vaccinated and apparently no symptoms (I am aware that if they are more than a few weeks after vaccination, most parents don't notice)

I discussed the case with a colleague and she too pointed me towards the mother. She suggested Nat Mur.

Re the Dyslexia: In the father: can barely read. Importantly, can not plan time at all. Doesn't create sequences of events as pictures in his mind. Intelligent - runs an electrical contracting business with 20 employees, very successfully.

The 2 siblings have similar dyslexic patterns. They read quite well, but skip lines as they read, and are unable to take in the meaning of what they are reading. One child happy, positive and sociable, and other (2nd child) somewhat jealous.

I haven't given the child a remedy yet as I said I would prefer to study the case further. I have in the meantime given the child an Australian Bush Remedy: Bush Fuchsia which I have used often with dyslexic or speech issues.

Re: the miasm - generally within in the family it would seem to be psoric.

Given the indications that there is some kind of mother link here ( and I gave the mother Ars 1M with huge benefits and the mother's symptoms during the birth were Ars like) and given that one feature of the child is to be rather orderly ( I watched her line a few things up and the mother says she is tidy as far as 3 year olds go) I am now wondering about Ars.
I shall however, first talk more to the mother and explore as you suggested the birth. Any other pointers or things I might need to took at?
