Dear Nawaz

Thank you for your message. I have bought Bryonia 30C from our local Health Shop but they only sell it it tablet form. For the first day I have taken 2 every two hours and for 5 days 2 every four hours. I will let you know my progress. I recently had a sinus and ear infection and have been on anti-biotics and am sure I have oral thrush which is something I often get because of inhalers - this obviously is not helping things. I will be in touch.

Hi Karen, are you still on antibiotics?

nawazkhan last decade
No, I finished anti-biotics about three weeks ago but I do get candida in the mouth because when I have been to the hospital they take swabs in my mouth and they show an overgrowth of candida. The last time they gave me 100 mg of Fluconazole daily for two weeks after after another swab it was ok. But since then I have been on anti-biotics again so I could have it but I don't know. For the taste the Maxifacial Dept gave me Clonazepan which make me very depressed and they are a mind altering drug. I only take one instead of two but I am desperate to get off them. They do help with the bitter taste but they make me feel drugged up. I have been on and off them for about five years. I find I cannot live with this bitter taste for ever - I am hoping this sinus operation may help but who knows. When I clean my teeth my mouth is full of this bitter taste and I have had so many different toothpastes (some from Health Shop) but nothing helps. Sometimes I think it is in my saliva but the hospital have told me there is nothing more they can do. I have to live with it but I cant. Is it allergies, sinus, BMS - nobody seems to know but what I do knosw is I am feeling very depressed with it.
Love Karen

Just another quick question maybe you could answer. Could I be allergic to toothpaste and mouthwashes? If so could you recommend anything to clean my teeth with other than baking power - I tried that once and it made me sick! Everytime I use a mouthwash it makes my lips sore and split. I have tried alcohol free ones which are not as bad but still make my lips sore. I am allergic to perfumes after a test at the hospital and was told to use everything Simple. I am having another allergy test to ascertain exactly what ingredients I am allergic to in perfumes. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Karen,

Dear Mawaz

Bitter taste never goes away - some days it is worse than others. Taking the Bryonia 30C and will keep you informed. They do not disolve in the water - so I will have to put a bit of boiling water in first and then top it up. Have tried again with the Bicarbonate of Soda and diluted it well before using instead of the toothpaste.

I am new to the forum. This will likely be my only post. I found this site yesterday and was happy know I wasn't alone. About 2 months ago everything, including my saliva tasted unbelievably salty... To the point I could barely eat. For the last week it was a bitter almost vinegar taste. Just 10 minutes ago I had an upset stomach and took some pepto bismol. The taste is completely gone. I am hoping it is resolved. I realize that pepto is not a homeopathic remedy but if it gives a moment of relief to anyone else like it has me then I'm glad.

Dear Acehound

My bitter taste I feel is coming from my sinus and your taste is probably coming from digestion problems. Wherever it comes from it is hell to live with. I am waiting for a sinus operation which has had to be cancelled twice because of infections. I am now on three weeks anti-biotics and hopefully then I will have my operation. Good luck to you.

Dear Karen:

Yes it has been hell to live with. I have read your posts and am amazed at how long you have suffered with this. I am pulling out what little hair I have at only 2 months. 8 years is crazy. I wish you the best with your sinus operation, and hope for you it solves your problem.

My update:

This morning all I could taste was normal morning mouth but my throat was sore. Checked my tounge as usual and the bitter buds at the back of the tounge were swollen. I gargled with a warm salt water mix. The swelling is going down and the bitter taste is still gone. I enjoyed a morning coffee for the first time in 2 months.

You may be right about the digestion but the swollen buds have me also thinking bacterial. I finally have two things the doctor can check as opposed to saying it's in your head.

Dear Acehound

I have also had an overgrowth of candida after swabs were taken from the hospital. They need about three weeks to grow things and this can cause a burning and an abnormal taste. I was given a strong dose of anti-fungal tablets but after being on loads more anti-biotics I have probably got it back again. Your can't win!!

Dear Karen:

Thanks for suggesting Candida. I checked my ph level with Litmus paper. I was well below 7.4 roughly 6.4. I have the typical north american diet (Meat, Bread refined sugars). I took some alka seltzer three times a day for 3 days for a quick boost and started eating foods that alkalize the body and drank a ton of water... you know... I ate the healthy stuff. It only took a couple of days and the taste is completely gone. Maybe your in acidosis... check your ph. If you don't have litmus paper handy or available take some alka seltzer (obviously don't do this if you're on a low sodium diet for high blood pressure). If the taste is gone afterwards your problem could be ph related... eat some alkalizing foods. Good luck.

PS - Scary to think that my acid levels were only .4 away from having the equivalent of urine for saliva.

Dear Acehound

I have never heard of Litmus paper and I don't understand about ph levels. I live in England so this is not so well known here. I am still on these anti-biotics and feel I cannot do anything until I have finished these. I will then have to go on a yeastfree and wheatfree diet with the help of a dietician. I know I have got candida back again and my immune system is probably very very low. I was advised by a nurse to see the doctor about referring me to an immunologist (had to look on the internet to see what it was). They test your immune system, blood, etc. I have a date for my sinus operation of 19 November only if my chest infection has gone but if the immune system if low it does not fighgt the infection even if you are on anti-biotics. I have an appointment with the doctor next Friday. I have not got high blood pressure - probably the only thing I havn't got!!

I can't believe I found this forum. I've been Googling for two days and this is the first time I have seen where some have the same bitter taste that is exactly like mine. I am 43, have 3 kiddos and homeschool. In December I received results of food intolerance tests which came back with yeast and gluten sensitivities being the worst. I changed my diet to exclude all gluten. I just got back hormone tests which show I am slightly low on progesterone and possible early menopausal due to elevated FSH. Periods have not been the same for at least a year-- the flow lasts about two-three days vs 7 before. Also, I have had some day long periods between periods a couple of times. The nurse practitioner is putting me on a progesterone pill so hopefully it will help with the taste if it is hormonal. I have also suffered with multiple ovarian cysts over the past year. So this seems to lend credibility to the hormone theory. My actual taste symptoms are that it goes away at night. In the morning it starts back again and it is very bitter, concentrated to the rear and sides of my tongue. Anything acidic makes it worse, like tomatoes or citrus. I cannot get rid of it with tooth brushing. I chew gum all the time now and certain gums start to taste awful after a while. I do have a history of sinusitis, all my life practically, and it has never produced this type of taste. I mentioned to the nurse practitioner and she thought it was from detoxing but I don't agree. A pharmacy is compounding progesterone for me and I will have it in a couple of days. I will let you all know if it works. Good luck to you all in finding a cure for this horrible ailment. I'v had mine for a few weeks and I can't imagine suffering with this for years.

Vboo2:
Your nurse practicioner is probably right about the detoxification. I have had a salty taste in my mouth which has now turned into a metallic taste (can also be kind of acidic too at times) and my doctor who has run numerous blood tests on me including allergy tests said my body is detoxing. The tastes have been going on now for 8 months. This whole issue is related to a process in your body called the methylation cycle (Google the words 'Amy Yasko and methylation' and you will find some information on it. Methylation is related to how your body processes vital nutrients and also detoxes your body. Yeast overgrowth and food allergies can cause issues with your methylation cycle because they stop the body from absorbing nutrients. Additionally, genetics play a role in the methylation process and if you have any kind of problem methylating, that can cause a build up of toxins in the body.

Do you have any other problems like feeling tired/run down, can't think straight, flu like symptoms?

My doctor and consultant said HRT would not help me so I have not been on it. Everybody puts it down to Burning Mouth Syndrome which you can get around the menopause and after. I still feel it it to do with yeast overgrowth and have been to a nutritionist and had support on a candida diet. However it is very hard and I make lots of mistakes. I have had this taste over seven years and you do learn to live with it. Stress makes it worse and sometimes it goes away but does come back. It may be worth going into candida more as I feel a yeast overgrowth causes lots of my symptoms. Good luck and look forward to hearing from you again. PS I have recently had sinus surgery and maybe this is why it is not too bad at the moment - I just don't know.
