Hate the term OCD.
Don't want to identify with something wrong with me. This upsets me.
Washing hands. Fear of contamination.
Each number I think means something different will happen.
Get confused, can't make choices about which shirt to wear.
Scattered, unfocused, distracted.
Numbers important to all choices.
Take clothes off and change them if they feel wrong for emotional reasons.
Negative words or thoughts shared by others make me get caught in negative thoughts and fears that something bad will happen.
Get very angry at myself for having thoughts. Yell out loud to myself. Throw things.
Feel like the thoughts are a part of me that wants to upset me.
Overly empathic - cry when see someone suffering. Hard to get their suffering out of my mind.
Aversion to taking any kind of medication or seeing doctors.
Very thirsty all the time.
Been happening since I was a child - more so since in my 20's.
Better in nature, walking, drumming, and when listening to music.
Worse when I talk about it.
Difficulty going to sleep. Wake up with upsetting thoughts.
Sensitive to cold. Sweat when in cold room or outside in cold.
Like warm weather.
Sensitive to criticism.
Aversion to cheese, butter, and most dairy products.
Like meat, pasta, caesar salad, bread, whiskey.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Are you wanting someone to manage your case Felicia?

If so, you can fill in my intake form. Try to expand on any answers you have given already too.

GUIDELINES FOR GIVING HOMOEOPATHIC CASE INFORMATION

It is important to describe all your problems in as much detail as you are able. One word answers and short sentences are not particularly helpful. Discuss each problem one at a time, providing (as a minimum level of detail) the following information.

1. What exactly happens?
2. Describe all sensations and pains. Each pain or sensation should be described in such a way that allows us to imagine having the same pain.
3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring?
4. What creates some relief for the problem?
5. What triggers the problem into occuring?
6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur?
7. When did the problem start? What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started?

Move from one problem to the next, doing the same thing. IT IS VITAL THAT YOU GIVE A COMPLETE PICTURE OF YOUR HEALTH BY PROVIDING ALL PROBLEMS YOU HAVE, EVEN IF NOT CONNECTED TO THE MAIN ONE, AND EVEN IF YOU CONSIDER IT OF LESS IMPORTANCE. You should address each problem separately using the above 7 questions as a guide.

As well as this, please describe any traumatic incidents that have taken place in your life. Discuss anything that has had a lasting impact on you mentally, emotionally or physically.

Discuss the way that you manage or deal with your problems, or any problems that occur in your life.

Discuss any patterns you have noticed in your behavior especially concerning your disease.

Discuss any part of your life where you feel stuck or unable to change and grow, especially where this occurred around the beginning of your disease, or as the disease evolved.

Describe your childhood and the kind of environment you grew up in, with reference to your relationships with your family, your school experiences, and any serious childhood diseases.

If your earlier discussions have not mentioned these already, please describe:

1. The specific foods that you crave (not just like) or hate
2. The specific drinks that you crave or hate
3. What your sleep is like
4. How the weather and the temperature affects you
5. What kinds of things in the environment you are particularly sensitive to
6. What your general level of energy is like
7. What your level of sexual energy or desire is like
8. Describe your menstrual cycle

In terms of the answers you have already given, can you expand on the following:

What is the experience of thinking something is wrong with you?

What are you afraid of being contaminated with?

Describe what happens when you think of numbers?

Describe the experience of being confused, scattered, unfocussed, distracted - not what causes it, the actual experience itself?

Describe these negative thoughts.

What will happen that is bad?

Describe 'unsettling thoughts'.

Describe the experience of being criticized.

Thanks for your quick response.
I'm actually asking this for my son - who has a hard time even having a conversation about what he experiences.
He cannot even accept that he has OCD.
So, I reported what I have been able to surmise through conversations with him and observing his behavior.
He is a 28 year old musician (drummer). His general emotional state is one of happiness when his 'mind is not driving him crazy.' Those are his words.
I would love it if he could sit down with me and answer your intake form.
Perhaps this is silly to be asking you to formulate a remedy based on my information - if so, I understand.
I know the best bet is to get him to a naturopath/homeopath, but ours moved to CA and I haven't found one I like as of yet. And then there's the issue of getting him to actually open up to someone about all this!

So I will attempt to give you my impressions by responding to your second and third list of questions. The first list would require his input.

SECOND LIST
The specific foods that you crave (not just like) or hate
No food cravings. But loves pasta, salad, meats of all kinds.
Hates: butter (unless cooking with it), most dairy products. Was lactose intolerant as a child.
2. The specific drinks that you crave or hate.
Craves all drinks - very thirsty.
Drinks brandy to calm down.

3. What your sleep is like
Some difficulty with getting to sleep. Prefers to sleep late in the morning.
4. How the weather and the temperature affects you
Likes warmth. When in cold climates he sweats and is clammy.
5. What kinds of things in the environment you are particularly sensitive to
Unsure about this.
6. What your general level of energy is like
High energy.
7. What your level of sexual energy or desire is like
Unsure.
8. Describe your menstrual cycle
NA

THIRD LIST (follow up questions)
What is the experience of thinking something is wrong with you?
He thinks something is wrong with him because of the thoughts he has about germs (hand washing) and aversion to anything 'negative' - like words that imply suffering, distress, difficulty - if spoken by someone else he seems to have to rid them from his mind as they spiral him into thinking he will get stuck in negativity. He also has a hard time choosing clothing - since the choices seem to be based on certain numbers and the significance of those numbers as having the power to produce negative or positive outcomes. I'm uncertain about the details of what is positive and what is negative. He is often late. Rushes around and has to do little things (seemingly ritualistic) before he can get out the door. Overall, he knows his behavior is 'odd' and so - his general conclusion is 'I'm really odd.'

What are you afraid of being contaminated with?
He had mouth herpes and impetigo as a child. We took him to our naturopath who treated him - but it was a long haul and the outbreaks were significant. Lasted through college. She told him to wash his hands frequently so that he did not transfer germs to his mouth/face. Since then, he has been highly vigilant about germs. He also seems to think that the words or 'energy' of others can contaminate his mind - and set him into a spiral of negative thoughts.

Describe what happens when you think of numbers?
Again, this is a mystery to me. I hope to be able to gather more information from him. I too had a mild form of this as a child - and certain numbers would mean I would be safe and happy and others would mean I would end up in danger of some kind. I suspect he has a similar association with numbers and positive or negative events happening.

Describe the experience of being confused, scattered, unfocussed, distracted - not what causes it, the actual experience itself?
He also has some ADD symptoms. I think his mind gets overloaded easily - sensory overload. I think this combined with trying to manage the negative thoughts - distracts him and makes him late, forgetful (losing things), and flustered to get all the things done he needs to get done - time crunch, meltdown, frustration with himself and sometimes angry at a society that requires people to be on time. He is often on 'Island time.' When not crunched for time, he is relaxed and the OCD behavior seems to abate.

Describe these negative thoughts.
Again, I have to gather more information.

What will happen that is bad?
Ditto.

Describe 'unsettling thoughts'.
Ditto.

Describe the experience of being criticized.
If anyone becomes impatient with his lateness, losing things, not being focused, not getting done what needs doing - he gets very angry - first at the other - but then at himself. He judges himself for letting his thoughts get in his way - but feels frustrated that he can't 'master' them.

He was a very happy kid. Well-adjusted and had many friends (still does). He did have some focusing issues (was assessed by psychologist but was not dx with ADD) as a kid - but we treated it homeopathically. Unfortunately, I did not keep a running record of all his remedies. I know that Phosphorus was the last one recommended as a constitutional. He did not take it. He has an aversion to taking any medication or supplements of any kind -since he fears they might bring on the herpes again.
He was always challenged with organizational tasks in school - but when helped with that - he excelled and went on to enjoy college.
No major illness - except the herpes and impetigo.
He takes long baths to calm down, walks in nature, plays drums, listens to music. This usually pulls him out of his negative thinking loop.
He is radical about politics - says that all he wants to do in life is to relieve the suffering of others- give to people, feed the poor, educate the children, spread love. Most people find him charming, handsome, charismatic, and fun to be around. He is highly creative and compassionate. He's great with kids. Has had several teaching and tutoring jobs. He has not been able to launch fully - finding it hard to make money as a musician and feeling like he just doesn't fit into a capitalistic society.

Perhaps I've given you too much and not enough.
Just a shot in the dark.
I appreciate any feedback you can give.

I am not sure that we will have much success using this kind of information. Homoeopathy relies on the subtle experiences given by the patient living inside of their illness. This is basically your interpretation or observation of it, which as second hand information will not be a precise representation of the problem. My experience is that this is a very risky way to treat mental illness.

Everything you see in him, you must interpret through your own inner state. This means that, unavoidably, you will express your remedy.

I have treated a lot of mental health cases over the years, it has always been a surprise what is truly going on for the person. The family members can help me to understand it, but were never able to give me the clue to curing them.

Is there anyway at all to get him to answer the questions directly? If not, wrong prescriptions are likely, and that will either harm him, or at least destroy any confidence he has in homoeopathy.

I agree with all you've shared.
Yes.
I will speak to him and see if he can answer the questions.
Thank you for your care and integrity.
