Acid reflux

Hello,
I am new to this forum. I prefer homeopathic medicine for my health problem. I require help for my acidity problem. My throats give burning experience during evening time (3pm to 5 pm), i take my lunch at 1 pm. I avoid spicy and oily stuff. i do exercise regularly. i am with this problem since long and dint took it seriously. But now it is summer season in India and i get acidity problem every day. Also small blisters pops up behind my lips some time which makes it very difficult to have solid food. Also i have noticed when i eat chappaties three times a day , my acidity problem rises. I prefer an enjoy taking soft food and cold water. I avoid junk drinks and food. My throat hurts and burns after i take solid food (which includes chappaties) rice is ok for me. Please let me know which medicine i start up with to get rid of this problem.

For your information i had taken carboveg and lycopodium it did give me relive but there is a recurssion. Alos i drink lot of chilled water during day( i avoid warm water) time. But some time drinking more water also triggers my acidity. my stomache doesnot burns.
My mother is also having same problem with same symptoms, she just cannot take food which has chillies, else her stomach starts burning very much(her gae is 63yrs and i am 43yrs old).
please help.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I shall copy the therapy that has helped hundreds perhaps thousands of patient to overcome their GERD.

I note that you drink chilled water and I hope that you do not drink this water immediately after a meal as this will antidote my therapy. You can drink all the water you wish up to half hour before a meal or 2 hours after. You are permitted only a couple of sips of water after a meal.


It is very likely that you are suffering from GERD (Gastro Esophagal Reflux disease) and I shall copy the therapy I have prescribed to hundreds of patients who presented GERD, the large majority of whom have been cured.

Your remedies are as follows:

Nat Phos 6x dose 3-4 tablets taken immediately after each of 2 meals
Arnica 30c in the Wet dose taken twice daily.

You can expect relief from your ailment hopefully within 24 hours.
Do not eat large meals. Eat small meals but more often if you feel hungry. Do not drink more that a few sips of water after your meals. This is to prevent the further dilution of your gastric juice which can then reflux into your Esophagus which results in GERD.

It is important that you do not go to bed for at least 2 hours after dinner as food will take about this time to digest and it is best to stay awake and upright to enable your food to digest before going to bed.

No fatty food, alcohol, coffee, preserved meats like sausages, ham, bacon as they contain Saltpeter which will antidote the remedies listed immediately.

If you suffer from a stomach ache or you feel your stomach puffing up before a meal during the day between meals this is usually due to hunger pains, caused by your gastric juices attacking the inner wall of your stomach. The simple remedy is to eat some food like a biscuit or a banana to keep the gastric juice away from digesting the stomach wall when you will experience a stomach ache which in some cases can be very acute.

You must drink at least 3 liters of liquids, preferably water daily and you must also exercise for at least hald hour daily to sweat it out as this is all part of my therapy to overcome GERD.
The Wet dose of any Homeopathic remedy is made as follows:

Order the remedy in a 5ml Liquid Alcohol pack also referred to as Liquid Dilution in a bottle preferably with a dropper arrangement.
Get a 500ml bottle of Spring Water from the nearest supermarket.
Pour out about 3cm of water from the bottle to leave some airspace.
Insert 3 drops of the remedy into the bottle and shake the bottle hard before you sip a capfull of the bottle or a large teaspoonful which is the dose.
Shaking the bottle hard is homeopathic succussion and this shaking must be done every time before sipping a capful of the bottle twice daily.

Thank you very much for the line of treatment you provided me. I will follow the same. Today i had strted with my first dose of NP after my lunch.I consumed water 2 hrs after my lunch and i will follow your guidelines reagrding water intake. I had started with Arnica as recommenede by you.

I will update you after taking few doses.

Observations from my side :-

1)1st day : After completion of two doses of Nat Phos 6x ( 4 tab per dose). In the eveining there was slight buring in the throat as if acid was rising, but it vanished of after 2-3 min. Whole day was good with no burning sensation.
2) 2nd day: In morning (every day i get up 5:30 am)i felt as if some thing is eating my stomache, but no burning and pain, previously it used to happen so i always o take one dose of carbo veg 200 , and it used to vanish ( this normaly happens when i dont eat anything in the morning). After taking carbo veg Flatulence (Gas) coes out with bad odur and then it is ok. since weeks before i started with taking a 500 ml of water + honey + half lemon in the morning so need for carbo veg dint rise for these many days. May be gas formation gets restricted.
But if i dont take my break fast by 9:00 am my stomache starts eating me.
Today also i felt the same. but when i took my break fast it went off.
througout day there was no burning in throat or stomache. A slight burning for 30 seconds did happen when i took cold water after 2 hrs after my lunch . yes there were few Flatulence (Gas) with bad odur in the evening.
3) Today is thrid day for me , All is good no problem experienced uptil now ,few Flatulence (Gas) with bad odur once a while. No stomache eating experience in the morning.

Conclusion:
-Burning of throat had stopped ( if at all there is burining of throat it is just for few seconds and then it stops, it is not continiuos as it was before)
-Few blisters as reported by me before the start of the treatment vanished.
-Few Flatulence (Gas) with bad odur in a day.

2 Dose of Arnica is in continuity.

Dear Joe,

No problem faced since last two days. No Flatulence. I usualy have my lunch at 1-1:30 pm after 2 hrs when i start drinking water, say around 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm there is small burning rise in my throat just for few seconds after some time it is ok. Is it after my lunch i take my dinner at 8:30 pm, in between this i just have water. As adviced by you i should take smoe biscuits or bananae. I will try this today and get back to you with update. I am continuing with Arnica30 (Two times ) and NP 6x(after lunch and dinner) .

Hello Joe,
I am taking your prescribed medicines as per your instructions. I am not facing any problem. No burning of throat, no gas formation etc etc. Only one thing i observed when i take water after two hrs after my lunch i feel some what heavyness in my stomach for short period. Rest all is ok.

My food intake timings (including water intake).

6:30Am : 600 ml water + half lemon + honey.
6:50 am to 7:30am walking.
7:30am to 8:10 am exercise.
8:10am to 8:35 am walking.
8:50am first dose of arnica.
9:30am breakfast (vegetable + curd + chapattie + fruits).
11:30 am to 12:45 am (Water(approx lhtr)
1:15 - 1:30 pm pm lunch (Rice + pulse + chappatie + vegeatable + salad + fruit)
1:30pm natphos 4 tab.
3:45 pm to 6:45 (800 ml water)
8:45 pm Dinner (Rice + pulse + fruit)
8:45 pm Nat phos 4 tabs.
10:30 200 ml of water
11:00 pm ( final dose of arnica and i go to sleep).

same routine is carried every day.

3:45 pm to 6:45 pm is the time where i can have few fruits in between or chocolates .
11:30 am to 12:30 am i do take some time ice cream.

I dont like to eat sweet stuff but some time i take it.

The water that i take with Honey and Lemon is normal temp water from water filter.
Rest of the day i take chilled water from Refrigerator.

You are advised to alter your daily routine as follows:

6:30Am : 600 ml water + half lemon + honey.

Glad to note that you do not drink chilled water at this time. Chilled water taken in large quantities like you are taking tends to affect the general working of your digestive system which tends to collect the fats making them difficult to digest. You are advised to only drink slightly cooled water instead of chilled water in future during the course of my therapy.

Do not drink so much water (600ml) at any one time. Spread it out over about 2 hours and drink some after your walk and exercise. It is best not to overload the system with an excess of chilled water that you gulp down just because someone had perhaps told you to do so. The lemon juice will increase the acidity in your stomach and we are doing our best to reduce the acid in your stomach. Stop taking lemon juice.

I would suggest that you drink a glass of milk (non fat) to provide some food for your stomach to digest before you go on your daily walk. Some fruit like a banana is also indicated before your walk to provide some carbs while you walk and exercise.

6:50 am to 7:30am walking.
7:30am to 8:10 am exercise.
8:10am to 8:35 am walking.
Drink some water at this stage.

8:50am first dose of arnica.
Arnica is best taken on an empty stomach when it will be absorbed by the body better. Take it first thing in the morning after brushing your teeth. Wait for about 10 minutes before you do your normal routine.

9:30am breakfast (vegetable + curd + chapattie + fruits).
11:30 am to 12:45 am (Water(approx lhtr)
Stop drinking I liter of CHILLED water.
1:15 - 1:30 pm pm lunch (Rice + pulse + chappatie + vegeatable + salad + fruit)
1:30pm natphos 4 tab.
You can reduce the NP to just 2 tablets and see how your stomach responds.

3:45 pm to 6:45 (800 ml water)
You can drink all this water as long as it is not CHILLED

8:45 pm Dinner (Rice + pulse + fruit)
8:45 pm Nat phos 4 tabs.
10:30 200 ml of water (CHILLED?)
11:00 pm ( final dose of arnica and i go to sleep).

I will alter my chilled water intake.

Form tomorrow onwards :
1) I wont take lemon juice.
2) Instead of chilled water i will start with normal temp water.
3) Arnica will be taken empty stomache in the morning.
4) You asked me to replace Lemon juice with Milk in the morning.

In the past i used to take milk in the morning (non fat)which resulted in gas formation and feeling of heavyness in stomache. I will try it again.

Can i add honey to milk ?

5) natphos 2 tabs after lunch.I will see how my my stomach responds.
( After dinner it will be 4 tab of nat phos .....)

I will return back with update.

It is rarely that I treat a patient like you who is as responsive as you are to my advice. I am glad that you have decided to alter your lifestyle according to my suggestions and I am confident that you will shortly be cured of your gastric problems.

You may like to know that Nat Phos is the perfect antidote to Lactose Intolerance and you do not have to fear taking milk if you take a tablet or two of NP after. Start with small quantities of milk as the idea is not to depend on any remedy except perhaps Arnica on a daily basis.

You can certainly add honey to milk.

I notice that you have not reported your response to my therapy and I would appreciate your latest report on any difference you notice from your previous condition to the present.

I altered my food/water intake habits as per your advice.

4) Had a glass of normal water after 2 hrs.
5) After lunch (1:30 pm) i had 3 tabs of Nat phos.
6) Gas formation was there in the evening. Normaly it occurs when i consume water after 2hrs of my lunch. Flatulance with bad smell at around 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
7) Today there was no throat burning sensation.
8) Today i am not taking rice in my food. So just chappaties, Happy to feel that no heaviness in stomach or burning in throat was felt. Previously my condition used to aggrevate with the intake of chappaties, which i used to avoid it. Few flatulance but without any problem to my stomach.
9) Also i had observed in past taking chappaties(Indian rotie) or Milk resulted in Gas formation which i used to avoid. But now i have started consuming it and medicine is taking care of my previuos problem.

> No intake of chilled water today.
> No intake of lemon today.
> Feeling great since the very next movement of first Dose.

Some thing i fogotten to mention (Sorry). I keep my spring water diluted arnica ( arnica 30c 3 drops + 500 ml spring water ). inside the refirgrator and use it everyday ( 2 doses early morning/before bed). Hope this is ok. Plz let me know if i am wrong. I am taking this medicine at chilled temperature after shaking vigrously for five times.

I can see that my therapy is working already and am confident that you can reduce your daily intake of Nat Phos 6x as necessary but you will keep taking the Arnica for some months into the future.

I have taken it nightly since 1996 and I can testify that it has done me a lot of good at age 82.

A couple of points that can help you:

1) No heaviness / gas formation in the stomach in the morning. Arnica dose taken in the morning empty stomach

2) After 30 min r I had taken glass of normal water + honey ( i dint took lemon). I will start with milk tomorrow.

SUGGEST YOU EAT THE BANANA BEFORE EXERCISE
3) Had my break fast at 9:30 am.
CAN YOU START YOUR BREAKFAST EARLIER IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR EXERCISE ROUTINE?
THIS IS TO PREVENT THE STOMACH DIGESTING ITSELF WHEN THERE IS NO FOOD TO DIGEST.
4) Had a glass of normal water after 2 hrs. OK
5) After lunch (1:30 pm) i had 3 tabs of Nat phos. OK
EAT A BISCUIT OR SOME FRUIT IN ABOUT 2 HOURS AFTER LUNCH TO KEEP YOUR STOMACH HAPPY.
6) Gas formation was there in the evening. Normaly it occurs when i consume water after 2hrs of my lunch. Flatulance with bad smell at around 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
THIS SHOULD NOT OCCUR IF YOU EAT THE SNACK
7) Today there was no throat burning sensation. I EXPECTED THIS AS YOU HAVE STOPPED THE FORMATION OF ACID IN THE STOMACH BY KEEPING IT BUSY DIGESTING THE SNACKS OR FRUIT.
8) Today i am not taking rice in my food. So just chappaties, Happy to feel that no heaviness in stomach or burning in throat was felt. Previously my condition used to aggrevate with the intake of chappaties, which i used to avoid it. Few flatulance but without any problem to my stomach.

Dear Joe,
(Indian daily breads are called chapati, phulka and roti and parantha. They are made of finely milled whole wheat flour and water).

Observations from my side(28th-April-2011 to 2nd-May-2011) :-
1) On 28th-April i had chappaties in breakfast,Lunch,Dinner (I dint had Rice). In the veneing after Dinner gas formation started, in the middle of night there was burning sensation in my throat may be acidic problem.

29th-May-2011:
1) Next day morning (29-April) there was some Burning in my throat and heaviness/gas formation in stomach.
2) I had Arnica dose taken in the morning empty stomach.
3) After 30 min I had taken glass of normal water + honey.
4) Exercise/walking as per schedule. By this time burning went off.
5) Had my breakfast at 9:00 Am. no heavyness in stomache.
6) Normal Water taken in small intervals. No heaviness.burning in stomache/throat. Relaxed feeling.
7) Had my lunch at 1:30 pm .
8) Natphos 3 tabs after Lunch.
9) Relaxed feeling in the eveneing.
10) Dinner taken at 9:00 pm .
11) Natphos 3 tabs after dinner.
12) Arnica taken before going to bed.
13) No stomach problem thru out tha day (just heaviness /gas formation for small period in the morning).

30th-May-2011:
1) No burning in my throat or heaviness/gas formation in stomach.
2) I had Arnica dose taken in the morning empty stomach.
3) After 30 min I had taken glass of normal water + honey.
4) Exercise/walking as per schedule. .
5) Had my breakfast at 9:00 Am. no heavyness in stomache.
6) Normal Water taken in small intervals. Relaxed feeling.
7) Had my lunch at 3:30 pm ( i had gone out).
8) Natphos 3 tabs after Lunch.
9) Relaxed feeling entire day.
10) Dinner taken at 9:30 pm .
11) Natphos 3 tabs after dinner.
12) Arnica taken before going to bed.
13) No stomach problem thru out tha day. Very relaxed.
>> Taken sweets in small quantity after Lunch and in the evening.

1st-May-2011
1) In morning there was some heaviness/gas formation in stomach.
2) I had Arnica dose taken in the morning empty stomach.
3) After 30 min I had taken glass of normal water + honey.
4) Exercise/walking as per schedule. Heaviness in the stomach and also flatulance.
5) Had my breakfast at 9:00 Am.
6) Normal Water taken in small intervals. Heaviness / gas formation.
7) Had my lunch at 3:30 pm (gone out resulted in lunch delay).
8) Natphos 3 tabs after Lunch.
9) Haeavy ness feeling thruout day stomach felt heavy since gas may be traped.
10) light Dinner( fruits) taken at 10:00 pm . Dint felt like taking dinner coz stomach was feeling very heeavy.
11) Natphos 3 tabs after dinner.
12) Arnica taken before going to bed.
13) stomach had heaviness /gas formation for entire day. But there was no burning in throat.

>> it was noticed that when I lye down straight on floor on my back there was some relief. Heviness experienced mainly during sitting position.


2nd-May-2011.
1) 1) No burning in my throat or very slight heaviness/gas formation in stomach.
2) I had Arnica dose taken in the morning empty stomach.
3) After 30 min I had taken glass of normal water + honey.
4) Exercise/walking as per schedule. .
5) Had my breakfast at 9:00 Am. no heavyness in stomache.
6) Normal Water taken in small intervals. Relaxed feeling uptil now.


>>> Nat. Phos. Dose from 4tabs to 3tabs.
>>> Chewed Carom Seeds in small quantity to get rid of Gas in stomach. I used to do this before your treatment started, hope it doesnt crosses your line of treatment. It relives the gas from the stomache.
>>> Since i dont take lemon as advised by you i used Carom seed this time.
>>> Nat. Phos dose reduced to 3 tabs after lunch and dinner.
>>> Arnica two doses .

:-) I get very sound sleep now a days. I like to sleep for long durations(it makes me to take small nap in the middle of the day , which previusly i never had done fearing i may not get sleep in the night). May be Arnica is working in this area.

You will have to follow the instructions below:

STOP eating Chappaties and other bread equivalents you are taking today. It is possible that they are made of Wheat Bran which is difficult to digest. Eat standard bread preferably toasted to enable quick digestion. The hyperacidity you suffer from can be due to the slow digestion of the chappaties which I remember from my last visit to India, are soaked in oil. Thosai is even worse. Ghee Thosai is the ultimate insult to a stomach like yours.

You MUST keep your stomach from digesting itself thereby causing acidity, heaviness etc by eating something to keep it busy without digesting itself. A biscuit, fruit can be eaten if you cannot have your meals in time.

Remember that the NP will help by accelerating the digestive process. If you are already filled up with gas due to your stomach self destructing itself, it it obvious that you must prevent this occurring.

Just remembered that you mix honey to your milk.

The combination of milk and honey can also be the reason for your gasification and subsequent discomfort.

Eliminate both in your diet for a few days and report results.

Update for my acid reflux problem.
1) Medicine Start date:
> Arnica : 19th-May-011
Dose:1 table spoon early morning empty stomach.
1 table spoon before going to bed at night.
> Nat phos 6x: 19-May-2011.
Dose : 3tabs after lunch and 3tabs after dinner.

2) Conclusion :
> No gas formation / throat burning / acidity problem observed since last update.
> A very relaxed feeling thru out day/night.

3) Dietry Precautions:
> No intake of chilled water.
> No water 1 hr before or 2 hrs after meal.
> No intake of lemon / milk / milk+honey.

4) Query:
> please let me know if chnage of dose is required at this stage.
> I am still continuing with Arnica and Nat phos .

You seem to be responding positively as you will obviously observe.

Continue with this regimen and report progress weekly.

The idea is to help your stomach to not digest itself which I felt from the beginning was the cause of your GERD.

Medicine Doses :
Arnica(1tbs morning and night) & Nat. Phos 3 tabs after lunch and dinner.

1)Observation:
-> No gas formation / throat burning / acidity problem observed since last update.
-> A very relaxed feeling thru out day/night.

2)Dietry Precautions:
-> No intake of chilled water.
-> No water 1 hr before or 2 hrs after meal.
-> No intake of lemon / milk / milk+honey.

3) Query:
> please let me know if change of dose is required at this stage.
>Sorry forget to mention in my last update. When i swallow food some where in bottom of my food pipe (throat) it burns. once the food moves down, there is no burning. It happens only when i swallow food. But when having water or fruits aur soft food it does not burn. If i take rice then also it burns. once the Food moves down there is no burning. Since my case was chronic is it that previous acid reflux in my throat had damged/wounded my throat, so when ever i swallow little hard food items it touches the wall of my throat at that particular point and it gives burning feeling for a second, but once food moves down it is normal. Please advice me on this ..... I dont enjoy my food when there is burning in my throat while swallowing.

Glad to note that your progress continues positively. You have come a very long way since you first reported your problem on April 18 and I believe that it is best that you continue with your present therapy for another few weeks.

The discomfort that you have reported is due to some abrasion in your Esophagus which is the connection from your throat down to your stomach. It is likely that your Lower Esophagal Valve is the source of your discomfort and unfortunately I cannot think of any therapy to help you to overcome your pain which fortunately is only very temporary. You have reported that hard food seems to trigger the pain and you have a simple solution which you can try yourself. Do not eat any food that is hard. Masticate all food thoroughly to ensure that its passage into the stomach does not cause you any discomfort.

I must mention here that there is a faint possibility that you have an ongoing infection of Heliocobacter Pylori in your stomach which may need an antibiotic to eradicate it completely. It is still early to think of the AB but we will have to keep this in mind if you experience a continuation of your pain for some more weeks into the future.

Thank you Joe for inviting my comments in this case, but until we see how things last for this patient or they request further advice or help, then I will not get involved. So far I have no particular criticism to make as there is definite improvement and the patient seems quite happy. Nat-phos certainly is a great help when it is indicated. Actually this does seem to be a good example of Nat-phos from many perspectives. There is even a strong mineral expression here which helps to confirm the use of this mineral remedy.

I do wonder if the blisters on the lips have also vanished though?

I certainly hope this patient does not need antibiotics, and I also hope they would seek a homoeopathic alternative before suppressing or complicating their case with orthodox drugs. There are many options before that one.

So really, just logging in to observe progress.

Never thought of Nat Phos that way.

I too hope that an antibiotic will not be required but the suspected H Pylori is a causative factor that I have not been able to eradicate with Homeopathic remedies.
