Natrum Phos. Side Effects??

I was recently given Natrum Phos. by a friend who said it would help me with my stomach problems. After taking it a few days, I broke out in this horrible, itchy rash/hives all over my skin. Is this a normal/common reaction to Natrum Phos.?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
what potency nat phos did you take and how many doses?
did you ever get hives before?

Not sure what potency, but the bottle says "6X" and "1-GR." on the bottle. I was instructed to take 3 capsules four times a day. I was forgetful, but I took two doses (6 capsules) one day (3 in the morning, 3 in the afternoon) and two doses the next day (3 in late afternoon, 3 at bedtime). I woke up scratching that night. The next morning I noticed the rash beginning, but, thinking they weren't related, I took my morning dose (3 capsules). So, 5 doses of 3 capsules altogether. Later in the day, the rash had spread rapidly and the itching was unbearable. I saw a physician and was told it was a drug reaction. I've never had hives before, though I had something similar once when I was about 12 (I'm 30 now), but I got that from swimming in a really unkempt pool...and it didn't itch at all.

homeopathy does not cause side effects. after taking a remedy you may experience return of former symptoms - as in a rash you had years ago - for short duration. But on the small dosage of nat phos you took this would be very unlikely. Is there possibly some other cause from food, ointments, perfume or chemical you have used?

Capsules?

No, I haven't done anything out of the ordinary that would point to these results. The only thing I can even remotely blame is that I've been on proton-pump inhibitors (for my bad stomach) for years...Nexium, Prevacid, Protonix, Prilosec...and perhaps they just don't mix well with Natrum Phos. If I'd just taken the Natrum on it's own, I probably would have been fine.

Yes, capsules, pills...I don't know the correct terminology.

if they are capsules it may make a difference, minsa is right, as they could maybe not be true homeopathic. Could you describe whether it really is a capsule or pill just so's we're clear? thanks :)

'Sorry, pills...definitely pills. There's no coating on them to indicate that they'd be a capsule, so... My friend did tell me that I should have been poaring the pills into the cap before I took them and not into my hand (as oils from skin can be absorbed into the pills). However, I only took them from my hand maybe one time out of the total five...and my hands had just been washed. However, could they have been a factor in it?

No, the way you took them was fine. they sound like regular homeopathic pills. Putting them in your hand is fine also.
the only thing I should have asked, of course, is ----- is your stomach better?
If it is then the reason you have a rash may be that formerly suppressed symptoms have found an outlet in your skin and you need to take the nat phos again if this is so, in a higher potency or the same potency and the rash should clear. tell me before you decide to take more....IS YOUR STOMACH BETTER??

My stomach seems about the same. I've had a horrible stomach for about six years now and, like I said, I only took the Natrum for about three days total. I discontinued it immediately because of the rash. Was that the wrong thing to do?

It was OK to stop, but I cannot see the nat phos would have caused this. If it did cause this it would begin to go very quickly.
let us know all the symptoms of your rash and stomach and someone here may be able to help this by suggesting another remedy.

erika last decade
What's your definition of "very quickly"? Because the rash took about three and a half days to subside.

JohnJRaivelhoff last decade
no definition as such.....has the rash gone now completely??

erika last decade
Oh yes, it's completely cleared up, thankfully.

JohnJRaivelhoff last decade
well - could be the nat phos then altho unusual.......
you should try something different for your stomach. If you tell us more symptoms we may be able to help.

Well, I tend to be hyper-sensitive to drugs and other such things, so... Either way, I'm just glad the rash is gone. My stomach problems are, basically, reflux disease. Of course, it can't just be normal reflux, but "the worst case we've seen," says my doctors (they actually took pictures for book). My throat was eroded and my LES muscle was all-but-nonexistent. I've been on an upswing lately, but the symptoms I exerience included nausea, zero appetite (leading to extreme weight loss), bloating, awful burning in chest, throat, back...and the list goes on. I've completely cut all "offensive" foods (anything acidic, even slightly) out of my diet and have been exercising regularly. I still have problems, though...

this is really too serious for internet suggestions - if you want to use homeopathy you need to see a professional homeopath local to you.

I agree.
