The ABC Homeopathy Forum

bug bite two year old

My son has a lot of bites on him. Most of them are mosquito bites.

He has another bite that may be a mosquito bite or it may be something else. I can see where he was bitten. There is a little break in his skin.

It is swollen around it and red. The swelling is about three inches wide. Not really in a circle, more square (or oval) if I were to put a shape to it.

It is tender to the touch. He moves away when I want to feel it. It seems to be warm as well.

It is right near his diaper and pants line so this may have added to the swelling, but it is so much swelling it is a bit concerning.

He woke up at 1:30 Wednesday morning from itching. Then last night I put baking soda on his bites and also gave him some Rhus Tox (just thought I'd try it) and he slept through.

I'm wondering if there's something besides the Rhus Tox that can help with the swelling.

His mood has been cranky, at least one big screaming tantrum a day. Usually more. For the last week.

He has been more defiant saying no he won't do such and such. I really think the defiance is more just his age and perhaps some new friends that he has been playing with "rubbing off on him."

The weather has been mostly sunny and in the 80's. Last night we did have a dip into the 50s and it is cool this morning.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
why are you wasting your time on these stupid responces. take him to good MD. you ae suffering your baby...father of homeo used to test the remedy on himself before preaching it. Gone are those days...

Well the remedies from him are proven, but nowawaydays its miracle to find a homeopath to suggest you whole heatedly...Nowadays homeo has become a timepass to satisfy one's own desire.

Go with the pace of the time..all the best..

ledum or apis should help.

Thank you Erika. I will try one of these.

Paraphernalia, I don't understand your reply. I have gotten very good direction from the practitioners on this site. I prefer this to an MD. If I feel that my child needs to be seen I will take him to a doctor.

I think what Paraphernalia was trying to say was: They're bug bites, they go away on their own. Don't worry.

Orume last decade
The reason why I am posting is because it is not "Just a bug bite" it is swollen.

lmhoopes last decade
OK then. Bug bites do swell, especially if they're rubbed by clothing, such as his diaper.

Have you tried a little calamine lotion?

Orume last decade
Orume, I will explain a little further. I posted because I am concerned that it is not just rubbing on the diaper and that it is actually a spider bite. I would like to treat the symptoms with homeopathy early on. I don't think I need to explain any further. I am an intelligent, concerned mother and I would appreciate it if you would stop belittling my request for help from people who want to help. Thank you for your suggestion of calamine lotion.

well done imhoopes I wanted to say something similar to Orume and Paraphenalia! Thank you!
Hope you have seen some improvement by now? Forgot to mention earlier that it is also worth cosidering hypericum if any symptoms point to this remedy.
Where do you live - are there any malarial mosquitoes or dubious spiders?

erika last decade
Yes, Erika, I gave my son ledum and the swelling has gone down after a couple of hours. It is still red but getting better.

I live in Kansas. We have brown recluse here. Not sure about the malarial mosquitoes.

Thanks for the support about the other postings and also for your suggestions.

very glad to hear of the improvement.
I'm not a very good person with spiders as I find them very scary - even in UK here I was bitten by garden spider, but luckily not badly poisonous just uncomfortable. You are right to be cautious and treat early.
The trouble is stopping kids scratching as they can spread the venom from any kind of insect bite and increase the rash!
I'm sure you're leaving the diaper off for a good amount of time to allow air to help heal as well?
Let me know of further improvements! :)

The brown recluse, in case you don't have them in UK, are very poisonous spiders. Their bites take a day or two to start getting really nasty. Then they eat away at the skin and are very painful. I have never had or seen a bite from a brown recluse, but I have heard plenty about them to be scared of them.

And I don't know what I was thinking when I said I didn't know about the mosquitoes. No there is no malaria here. (Unless it would be a very rare case of it). But we do have the West Nile virus and of course mosquitoes carry other diseases.

I will air the diaper area out. Thanks for the suggestion.

If you are in an area with brown recluses, please see a professional doctor immediately.

I'm sorry if you feel I'm "belittling" you, as that is most certainly not my intent.

Here is some more info on brown recluse bites, if you feel you need it. Bite symptoms are halfway down the page.

Best wishes to you and your son. :-)

thank you imhoopes for the info about the recluse - what is West Nile virus??

and Orume, I may be brave enough to read up on these spiders one day!!! I am sure that Imhoopes is well up on when to call the doc and I'm glad to hear your intentions are only good.

Imhoopes, I don't know if it's applicable to bites but I have read about the use of your own urine on chilblains and, I think, weaver fish stings - it may be worth trying to help the healing on its way with a bit of your son's own pee on the bites (it may amuse or disgust him!!) - if you do, then try a small area only to see the result. sorry to suggest something that may repulse you but I think our own ability to heal ourselves in this way is wonderful if it works!:)

Nat Mur good for insect bites. Check out Dulcamara for mosquito bites. Sorry, don't know very much about spiders.

Minsa last decade
Thanks Minsa for your suggestions. I will keep this in mind.

Erika, West Nile is a mosquito-borne illness. I guess that some people get infected with it and don't ever realize it. There are a very few people who get really sick with it. Sometimes they get encephalitis with it when it is severe. The chances of getting really sick with are low. So we just do what we can to prevent being bit.

The bite continues to clear up with the ledum. I gave him another dose before bed. It is not as red or as raised from being swollen.

Orume, thanks for the spider info. I looked at some pictures too on another site. My son's doesn't look like that, so that is good.

One of the things I used to do for my infant son is keep the bite cool with eau de cologne or cloth in ice. Eau d cologne will burn if the bite is open so ice cold water compress time to time helps. Ledum & Apis are very good for insect bites.
