possible eye allergy

For the last few months my one eye has shown several symptoms intermittently. It is very sensitive to light, can occasionally be bloodshot and may from time to time feel as if shampoo is in it or the inner corner gets sore and itchy. As this eye has been my weaker eye vision wise and 2 years ago I had flashing lights and floaters which ended with me going to the eye hospital but there was no retinal detachment I am rather concerned. Sometimes that side of my head/brow really throbs. The optician checked my sight and said my vision is as before but it may be allergic conjunctivitus. Putting in eye drops made no difference. A visit to the doctor and he just gave me stronger drops but the effect has been no real improvement. Now I don't know what to do some days it is reasonably OK others I feel the need to rub it frequently and I am starting to feel anxious and miserable. Any ideas?
