Phobia of Blood Pressure being taken

I have phobia of blood pressure being taken since age 26. (I know how it started. During medical examination prior to joining a new job, the Doctor noted my BP 140/90 pulse 80. I was asked to come for examination again next day and my BP was 160/100 pulse 130. I was sent to hospital for investigation and diagnosed as 'white coat syndrome' ie hypertension in medical environment.)
Since then, feel too much panic anxiety while visiting a doctor for bp measurement, pulse and BP shoots up hugely. Feel very anxious and uncomfortable anticipating such a situation even before starting for Dr’s office. Even have anxiety while using home bp monitors. I am 65 years old now and I am taking beta-blockers since last 13 years (on allopathic doctor's advise) which improves the situation – but the underlying problem is still there. As a result my bp still can not be properly measured. Seeking some homeopathic remedy.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Stop taking Beta Blocker drugs as they will have serious side effects later on during your lifetime, especially since you do not have any need for them today.

Take Arnica 30c in the Wet dose twice daily and report your response in a week.
The Wet dose of any Homeopathic remedy is made as follows:

Order the remedy in the Liquid pack in Alcohol, also referred to as Liquid Dilution in a bottle preferably with a dropper arrangement.
Get a 500ml bottle of Spring Water from the nearest supermarket.
Pour out about 3cm of water from the bottle to leave some airspace.
Insert 3 drops of the remedy into the bottle and shake the bottle hard at least 6 times before you sip a capfull of the bottle or a large teaspoonful which is the dose.
Shaking the bottle hard is homeopathic succussion and this enhances the effect of the remedy on the user.

Sorry I did not tell you that I am 65 now and taking beta blockers for last 13 years. I am gradually reducing the dosage. You have advised Arnica 30C - which I am already taking for last 2 months for my urinary problem also as per your advise in another forum.

Sumitmut last decade
Why were you prescribed the Beta Blocker drugs and what is the drug?

You state that you have already taken Arnica 30 for 2 months.

Have you observed any difference in your vital signs?

Because of 'constant anxiety about inability to measure BP' during age 26 to 35 the BP actually went up. I could overcome the continuous anxiety problem through meditation. But the anxiety just prior to visit to Dr's office and during BP measurement remained. At age 52 Dr recommended beta blocker Tenolol 100 which I have taken once a day for last 13 yrs. Recently I have reduced the dose to 75.

Since I started Arnica 30C two months back for my urinary hesitancy and frequency I have also observed that I am sleeping better (besides improvement in urinary problem.

I am looking for a remedy for my phobic anxiety just before and during BP measurement so that my BP can be measured correctly. I hope this clarifies the situation.

The one remedy should be taking care of all symptoms.

The questions I would need answered for the phobia at least, are:

1. what is it about doctors that you find most frightening?

2. what does the fear feel like to you (physical, emotional)?

3.if this fear happened to someone in a situation that was reasonable and expected, what would that be?

4. how do you manage or react to the fear?

5. what other kinds of fears do you have?

Direction of cure tells us that a correctly prescribed medicine will work on the more important aspects of a person's ill health first (mental, emotional) and work its way down through the hieararchy of levels. If it can be found, the simillimum will do this work from top to bottom, inside to outside.

Homoeopathy's greatest strength is for treatment of mental and emotional conditions. At least half of my cases in clinic involve mental/emotional issues.

I must frankly admit that I have never encountered a case like yours. I just cannot believe that you have taken a powerful drug a Beta Blocker, Teneolol 100 daily for over 13 years purely to calm your nerves when taking your Blood Pressure. I note that you have not indicated your BP today. This must be done after at least 3 days without the drug and you must take 3 readings consecutively and take the average of your readings to be accurate in your record. The batteries in your Digital BP gauge must also be new to provide accurate results.

If you are not really a Hypertensive patient, I shall prescribe another remedy for your problem but I must have more data on what precisely your problem is.

Please complete the Patient's Questionnaire on:

I am glad to note that there seems to have been some positive improvement in your Sleep and in your Urinary problem.

To Brisbane Homeopath,
To answer your specific questions:

1. It is not that I am particularly afraid of doctors. I am specifically afraid of getting my bp measured and start getting anxiety at even the thought of actually getting bp measured. In fact some doctors have noticed my bp continuously going up as it is being measured. Because of this extreme anxiety/fear my pulse races and bp shoots up 40 to 50 points. However if I go to say a ENT doctor knowing that bp is not going to be measured I do not get anxiety. I have given more details and background in my earlier threads.

2. Root of the fear is 100% emotional - but it leads to physical symptoms of pulse racing and bp rising. Know very well that this is irrational fear but can not help it.

3. I haven’t understood the question. I realize that my fear of this magnitude is totally irrational. I can understand somebody fearing life-threatening surgery - which is reasonable. But to have my kind of silly fear is not reconcilable. You know it is nothing - still anxiety and phobia takes over in the situation.

4. I have not been able to manage the fear . However hard I try- like shifting focus away from the situation or to calm my mind through breathing or listening to ipod music etc I can’t avoid severe anxiety at the time of bp measurement.

5. Beside this I have fear of heights, stage phobia.

Let me also give you some more Info if it is of help. I am basically introvert, a perfectionist/meticulous. I am otherwise a healthy person doing everyday 30 minutes freehand exercises and 40 minutes (4 kms ) of brisk walking. I am also type A personality - bit impatient with hurry-worry. Have no other problems except urinary which has improved significantly with treatment advise of Joe De Livera.
Hope you can suggest some remedy for this embarrassing problem.

There is a picture forming actually.

Tell me more about the fear of heights.

Tell me more about the fear of being on a stage.

Is this fear like the kind of fear someone gets if their life is in danger? (I know your life is not in danger of course, but is that the same kind of feeling you have?)

Describe how you are meticulous?

When do you feel hurried or impatient?

There is a remedy I can see here but I want to be sure.

To: brisbanehomeopath

Thanks for all the pains you are taking. I have tried to answer your questions with simple day to day situations.

Fear of Heights: I am afraid of looking at my plumber getting on top of the water tank (over the terrace) close to the edge atop our 5 storey building - while I myself can not even lean over the parapet of the terrace to look down and I have to withdraw in a few seconds . Of course, no problem while in the balcony (with grill) of my third floor apartment. No problem during air travel. Fear (while others seem to be cool) travelling in difficult mountain roads, worse while turning hair-pin bends or with deep gorge on one side. I wish I could trek in the mountains but probably can’t do because of this.

Fear of Stage: Too much butterflies in the stomach. Pulse races. Probably BP also goes up. Too much conscious. Very much bothered about what others will think of me in spite of reasonable preparation. Sometimes lost for words. Feel lack of confidence. Big relief - when off stage.

Fear of Life: At this stage I do not have fear of life. But at one stage (age 28 to 32) when I was compulsively obsessed with BP ( Why my BP can not be measured, why I can not control my anxiety, is my BP really high!) and running from doctor to doctor to get my BP checked only to find BP going higher and higher (from 150/100 to 190/110) I thought I could die. My anxiety, pulse, BP continued to be high for hours, days and months. Doctors were also perplexed as at that time few had heard of ‘white coat hypertension’. Sometime (may be 1 year) after I started practicing TM (transcendental meditation) I was slowly able to overcome this compulsive obsession with BP. However years of anxiety probably took its toll and what started as a fear probably became a reality. At age 51 on basis of various tests including echocardiography it was confirmed that I had actually developed BP and since then I am on beta-blocker.
For last so many years I feel I am in good health but still can’t have my BP correctly measured due to preceding anxiety.

Meticulous: Like in this response I must make sure that my answer is in order, no spelling mistakes or wrong sentence construction. Like when I visit a doctor - I will prepare a comprehensive background of my problem so that his job is simplified. The list goes on. Sometimes I feel I am straining myself too much. But at times it gives excellent results for example I recently sold my apartment in another city at a good price without a broker through effective advertisement on the internet and meticulously following up responses. The paperwork was so thorough that whole process of sale, transfer and registration was completed smoothly during just one 2-day visit.

When do you feel hurried or impatient: When I have decided about taking an immediate action eg I am ready to step out of home but my wfe is taking 2 minutes more to get ready. If I am waiting in the car for my daughter to come down I may get impatient and start honking. I ring the doorbell downstairs expecting the door (2 floors up) to be open in time. Basically if there is a job to be done I am always in a hurry. I move fast physically and mentally and find difficult to pull on with slow people. At times it puts me and others in stress.

Ok this sounds like Arg-nit. Can you get hold of Arg-nit 0/1 (LM potency scale, so it may be called LM1 or LM 0/1)

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Arg-nit Potency is not clear. Here it is available in potencies like:

6X, 12X etc (Scale of 10)
6C,30C,200C etc (Scale of 100)
1M etc (Scale of 1000)

All above may also be available in Ethanol liquid form.

Can you pls clarify which one will be suitable and in what dosage?

When and how long should I take it? Is it to be taken just before BP measurement?

Sumitmut last decade
I have located Arg-nit 0/1 LM which is sold here as per dose basis and on prescription. Pls let me know when and in what dose I should take the medicine and for how long. I would also like to know the side-effects if any and safety.
Thanks.

Sumitmut last decade
Dear brisbanehomeopath,

I would appreciate your response on how many doses of Arg-nit LM0/1 should be taken and for how long. I have purchased the medicine. Thanks.

Sumitmut last decade
I have been offline for over a day my apologies.

You will need an extra bottle with a dropper. Into this bottle mix 1 part alcohol and 5 parts water. Place either 2 drops or 2 granules of the Arg-nit 0/1 into this second bottle.

For each dose, hit the bottle twice very firmly against the palm of the hand or an elastic surface like a book. Put 1 drop into 1/4 cup (62mls) of water and stir thoroughly. Take 1 teaspoon out of this cup into the mouth. Throw the rest of the cup away.

Repeat from the step where you hit the bottle twice, once each day. Stop the moment any symptom worsens or any new symptom appears. Continue until such time, but report in every 4-5 days to let me know how you are going.

To brisbanehomeopath

What is the volume of the extra bottle where I have to mix 1 part alcohol and 5 parts water and then add 2 granules of Arg-nit LM 0/1?

Sumitmut last decade
Bottle should be 15-30mls capacity.

I have exactly the same condition of severe white collar hypertension, leading to panic attack during BP measurement. Beta blockers do help me as well as counselling. I would like to contact the author of this post, since there is also a group of people who share the same syndrome.

I wonder what happened here. No feedback as to the result it seems.

To Brisbane Homeopath.

My apologies. I am really sorry for not keeping you updated. I had located Arg-nit LM0/1 here and got all details from you regarding the preparation. But the local homeo stores here does not sell this particular medicine of this potency directly (in granule form) to a patient and requires a Dr's prescription to prepare the solution. My local homeopath will return in Mid-September and I will try to manage to get a prescription from him on your suggested line. If I still have a difficulty I will let you know. In the meantime do you think I can try Arg-nit30C in globule form which does not require prescription?

Sumitmut last decade
That is completely bizarre. LM potencies require a prescription? What a ridiculous control on something that is actually less harmful than the other potencies!

Yes get hold of 30c, but make it in exactly the same way I described for 0/1.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
The best way is to take
Mimulus 4 drops 3 times a day on 2 teaspoon water

Take the medicine for one month and check the results.
This is a Bach Flower remedy

For Brisbanehomeopath

I am taking Arg-nit 30C (instead of LM0/1) exactly as described by you for LM0/1. Already taken 1 dose everyday for 4 days. Do not feel any change. No new symptoms also. The way to know if it is helping is to actually visit a Doctor for BP measurement. I will continue the medicine as advised but for how long?

For R P Tamhamkar

Thanks for the help. Currently I am trying the remedy suggested by Brisbanehomeopath. I will try Mimulus later if required.

Sumitmut last decade
Continue with the remedy until something happens. I would report in after 7 days, then we can see what has happened.

You can take Bach flower medicine along with any medicine
