The ABC Homeopathy Forum

all tests normal, dr's don't know what is wrong

Ever since my teenage years I have had a mysterious condition in which I get extremely tired every day at the same time, no matter how much nighttime sleep or napping I get, whether or not I am on any medications, and whether or not I drink caffeine. I begin to feel fatigue (weak, dull headache, want to go to sleep) around 11:00 AM and this lasts until about 3:00 PM, when it leaves of its own accord (first headache disappears, then sleepy feeling). This is the same every day. I have mentioned this to several different doctors through the years. I have had my thyroid checked, my hormone and vitamin levels checked, blood sugar, iron levels - all normal. No doctor has ever told me I have Chronic Fatigue (though that might be what it is). Other things that may be related to this: I have had chronic insomnia since I was about 9, which has become worse since college. I have also had long bouts with caffeine addiction because of this problem. I also have migraine headaches with my monthly cycles. I am on Prozac (Sarafem) for PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder), which helps my menstrual problems trememdously but the daily fatigue problem is still there. I am a "Type A" detail-oriented personality but not a total perfectionist. And I am totally new to Homeopathy. Does anyone know of a cure for me?

Thank you!

Hey Southernbelle!

You may not need to take any remedies at all. Long-term caffeine addiction can cause all sorts of nasty problems including insomnia and daytime fatigue. It's a catch 22 -- drink coffee 'cause you're tired, be tired 'cause of the coffee.

I quit caffeine completely about 5 months ago and am sleeping much better at night and am more alert during the day. My problems weren't as bad as yours, but stopping caffeine should still help you. I do still get insomnia when I have PMS, but only for one or two days.

So stop that caffeine habit first, and then if that doesn't help, consider other remedies. ;-)

Don't forget -- lots of Vitamin C to help flush the caffeine out of your system!

Good luck, and the best of health to you!

Orume, I have been off caffeine for months at a time, more than once over the years. The insomnia and daytime sleepiness has persisted without any change at all. Currently I am on the pill form of the caffeine, because then I can stay away from "chain-drinking" all day and I can measure exactly how much I am taking and how much I need to get over the sleepiness. I take 100mg (the same as 1/2 cup of coffee) at 10:30 am which gets me through to about 1:00. This problem is made worse by the fact that this is my daughter's naptime when I am stuck in the house. It's almost impossible to resist taking a nap. I cannot afford to sleep during the day with the insomnia problem and I am forced to sacrifice time that I would spend on other things, when I take a nap.

OK. I am sorry to hear that stopping caffeine hasn't helped.
Do you exercise regularly? I didn't see any info up there saying if you did or not.
If you don't, exercise should help you a little bit, by raising your metabolism. Try going for a brisk walk during the time you normally get sleepy in the afternoons. Maybe that will help?

I do wish for you the best. I am sure there is something that can be done to help you out. We just need to find what it is. :-)
