bulging discs

Hi there,

I am a 30 years old male. I have had problems in my upper and lower back in the last few years but they were coming and going after a few days or weeks.
In April I had a stronger pain than usual in my lower back with some pain in the left side of my bum and upper part of the leg. I had quite a few physiotherapy sessions but the pain wouldn't go. From an MRI the doctor spotted 2 bulging discs, one in the lower back (which was touching one of the nerves) and the other in the neck. He then injected steroids/cortisone in the affected areas.
The pain in the back has been much less but in the bum and upper left leg is unchanged with more pronounced stiffness in the morning as i get out of bed.
Can homeopathic remedies help please? If so, what do you suggest?

Thanks

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
We would need many more details to make suggestions for you. If you are willing to answer my intake questions, I am willing to do that work for you.

GUIDELINES FOR GIVING HOMOEOPATHIC CASE INFORMATION

It is important to describe all your problems in as much detail as you are able. One word answers and short sentences are not particularly helpful. Discuss each problem one at a time, providing (as a minimum level of detail) the following information.

Please do not answer each of the following questions by placing all your problems in each one. Each of these questions needs to be answered for each problem eg. For you headaches answer 1-7, then for your reflux answer 1-7 and so on.

1. What exactly happens?
2. Describe all sensations and pains. Each pain or sensation should be described in such a way that allows us to imagine having the same pain.
3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring?
4. What creates some relief for the problem?
5. What triggers the problem into occurring?
6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur?
7. When did the problem start? What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started?

Move from one problem to the next, doing the same thing. IT IS VITAL THAT YOU GIVE A COMPLETE PICTURE OF YOUR HEALTH BY PROVIDING ALL PROBLEMS YOU HAVE, EVEN IF NOT CONNECTED TO THE MAIN ONE, AND EVEN IF YOU CONSIDER IT OF LESS IMPORTANCE. You should address each problem separately using the above 7 questions as a guide.

As well as this, please describe any traumatic incidents that have taken place in your life. Discuss anything that has had a lasting impact on you mentally, emotionally or physically.

Discuss the way that you manage or deal with your problems, or any problems that occur in your life.

Discuss any patterns you have noticed in your behavior especially concerning your disease.

Discuss any part of your life where you feel stuck or unable to change and grow, especially where this occurred around the beginning of your disease, or as the disease evolved.

Describe your childhood and the kind of environment you grew up in, with reference to your relationships with your family, your school experiences, and any serious childhood diseases. Your parents may need to help you answer these questions.

If your earlier discussions have not mentioned these already, please describe:

1. The specific foods that you crave (not just like) or hate
2. The specific drinks that you crave or hate
3. What your sleep is like
4. How the weather and the temperature affects you
5. What kinds of things in the environment you are particularly sensitive to
6. What your general level of energy is like
7. What your level of sexual energy or desire is like
8. Describe your menstrual cycle

I will probably have more questions for you after that.

I also need to know what homoeopathic remedies you have taken in the past, and what the results we

Hi David,

Thanks for your kind reply and sorry for getting back to you only now. I was awayfrom home and didn't have internet connection. Here are my stats and the answers to the questionnaire:

Male, 30yo, 178cm, 74kg

I have Back/neck/leg pain (due to bulging discs, 1 in lower back, 1 in the neck)
1. What exactly happens?
Because of the bulging discs, the doctor injected 2 months ago steroids/cortisone in the affected areas. The pain has been less in the neck and lower back, however I still have a lot of discomfort in my upper left leg, particularly within the buttock area. In the last week the leg/buttock pain has been much worse and is getting unbearable.

2. Describe all sensations and pains. Each pain or sensation should be described in such a way that allows us to imagine having the same pain.
The pain I get in my buttock/leg is a sudden shooting and very intense pain which feels like the muscles are very stiff and pulling with a bit of burning sensation.
Also as the effect of steroids/cortisone wears off, I am starting to have pain in the lower back and neck again. This is a more constant pain spread in those areas which resembles tiredness, af if they have been strained by a big effort.

3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring?
The back/neck pain gets worse when I don't keep the correct posture. When sitting I tend to bend a little forward, when standing I tend to bend a little backward, though I am trying to correct that. However I work long hours sitting at a desk, which makes the discomfort much worse as the hours pass. It gets worse also when I am stressed. My job is very intense and stressful on a daily basis.
The pain in the buttock/leg is very bad in the morning when I get out of bed and comes suddenly when I stand up from chair when working at my desk. In that case i need to stand up very slowly, wait 10-15 seconds before I can move as the pain is really intense, then it slightly decreases and after I start walking for few minutes I start feeling it less. I also feel the leg/buttock pain when I am coughing (this week I also got running nose, heavy/tired eyes, headache, a lot of coughing, probably due to change of weather)

4. What creates some relief for the problem?
When I take a warm shower in the morning, the pain and particularly the stiffness get better. I get a good relief when the physio therapist does some very deep slow massage with hands and elbow along the areas where I feel pain, but usually the following day the pain comes back. Swimming seems to give some relief too.

5. What triggers the problem into occurring?
See 3)

6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur?
When I get out of bed in the morning 6.30am and every time i stand up from chair in the office.

7. When did the problem start?
I have had backache on and off in the last few years. However last April I had a strong one which didn't go away.

What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started?
Not that I remember

Other problems/pain

Every now and then I get headaches. It's usually an acute pain which I feel in one side of the head at each time (either left or right) and affects the back of the head, the side and also the area around the eye as well. A paracetamol usually calms it down.

I also have some pain in the knees, particularly when going up and down the stairs (probably due to joint hypermobility).

Because of an intense long hour job, I feel a lot of stress, sometimes a light feeling of anxiety.

Sometimes I keep thinking about a problem or upsetting situations over and over, even when I am with people in which case I get absent minded and as If I was on another planet.

I don't sleep well, sometimes I suffer from insomnia. I tend to sleep 4-5 hours max per night.

I don't think there is any particular food/drink I crave or hate.

I feel a good level of energy and also sexual desire although in the last week I have had less sexual desire than usual as the pain in the leg has increased and I am feeling weak and upset.

Homeopathic medicines taken in the past: propolis (not sure it's homeopathic?) and recently bach flowers (impatiens, white chestnut)

Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks in advance for your kind help and remedy suggestions.

Hi Nawaz,

I have taken colosynthis 200C as per your instructions. It does seem better overall, sometimes even much better, thanks for your kind advice. However I still have quite a bit of pain, what do you suggest I should do now? Continue with the same or?

Best Regards

Hi, Nice to know about the improvements!

Please describe your current pain in detail?

Sure Nawaz,

it's still same type of pain which I can recap as:

- I feel mostly pain in the left side within the buttock area and and the back of the upper thigh. I can sometimes feel a much smaller pain also in the lower leg with heaviness sensation and some minor tingling.
- It is better when lying on bed
- It is worse as I get out of bed or when I stand up from chair after sitting for some time
- It is worse as I stand up and I start moving. However as I keep moving it gets much better
- It is worse as I cough. When coughing while sitting, I can feel it in the left side of the lower back. When coughing while standing I can feel it in the left upper leg, precisely along the back of the thigh.
- When standing, if I bend my upper body forward, I can feel pulling pain in the left side of the lower back; if i bend it backward i can feel it slightly more down towards the buttock area; if i move the leg forward keeping it on a straight position (without flexing the knees) I can feel a big pulling pain at the back of the thigh.
- If i rotate the pelvis up and down (an exercise a physiotherapist gave me to both strengthen the lower back and find the right posture in the mid way of the rotation) when rotating it up to the max i can feel pain in the lower back/buttock.

Hope it was detailed enough, let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks!
