This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
STAPHSAGRIA & COLOCYNTH are two other very powerful remedies to get over the suppressed resentment & anger.
Rescue is also a good medicine in Flowers.

Dwelling on the past is a very large rubric in our repertories. There are many remedies that might cover such a problem. However, the reaction is more important than why it comes up so that will probably direct a practitioner to a useful remedy.

I would also say that dwelling on some past event is actually a very very common expression from many patients, and on its own may not help at all in determining a remedy. There are many common human experiences that are not remedy specific - romantic disappointment, grief, loss for example - and any remedy could help people struggling with those things if the peculiar and indivdiual reaction to it fits.

The question should always be, to help find the right medicine - 'What was your experience of that event' rather than trying to give a remedy for the event itself. Our remedies do not create break ups, they do not make your parents die, they do not cause your boss to fire you. Therefore, these things cannot be cured either. However, the way these things affect you, this leads us to the remedy, as remedies cause internal changes (in the person, in the feelings, in the experience) and therefore this is what they can cure.

I fully agree with the detailed comments given by Dr.Kampson.
As a matter of fact the events do takes place in everyone's life & they generate certain emotions within the person depending upon one's value system, emotional reactions, behavior.
Now for a homoeopath it is not the event that is important but the perception of the event by the person & the associated reaction in the shape of symptoms (mental & physical)will be of importance in deciding the medicine.
Even that is also not enough we as homoeopaths are also suppose to help pt thro. proper counselling to see the reality in the right prospective. In short events are just the trigger points & NOT disease as such.

There will be a postive effect. What exactly that is will depend on many factors. The simillimum always has a positive effect of some sort.

Dear David, you are absolutely right. I have seen that when potency is lesser than required the positive change do come but it does not remain for long, in both intensity & period of time, especially mental symptoms. Then it is time to go for higher & higher potency.
Kent has insisted in MM of Phosphorus that same potency should not be repeated more than twice & we must go for higher in the 3rd. attempt.

I believe Kent gave that advice because he was not familiar with the instructions Hahnemann gave in the 5th and 6th editions of the Organon - he was a 4th edition prescriber (dry dose).

Using split dose, any remedy can be repeated more often, although it still must be individualised based on the patient's reactions. The simillimum doesn't really need to be repeated often though, once that remedy is found.
