Red Face.

Hi I am a 27 years old male.
Suffering from a red face, looks like a constant blush. My facial skin does feel quite warm.
I have fair skin and always use high factor sunblock with UVA and UVB protection. Sunblock is manufactured by Vichy and is intended for Hyper-allergic skin.
The problem started when i was about 17/18 and seems to have got proggesively worse. I had clear pale skin prior to that. I live in South Africa which has quite a harsh climate. High tempratures and always sunny. I do smoke. I go incredibley red in the face if I drink alcohol. I drink socially about once a week and not big volumes. The skin on the rest of my body is fine, fair with a slight golden sun tan. I work indoors in front of a computer, a fairly stressfull job. I try eat as healthy as possible(salad greens, vegetables and fruit) but do eat the occasional burger and pizza(about three times a week)When I wake up in the morning my facial skin is reasonably clear but will progress into a red flush during the day.Quite strange but I'll go through periods(+- 10 days) when my facial skin seems a lot clearer than other periods and nothing i can think of seems to trigger this.
I only wash my face with dermatogical perscribed face wash(for hyper sensitive skin) and only after applying sunblock. I do not apply sunblock every day, only when i'm outdoors for a period of time. I do not user any other cream on my face.
I take a multi vitamin daily which contains all essential vitamins. I used to take a lot of Spirulina + Ginseng combination for energy(for a period of 14 months) but since starting gym etc I have stopped as my energy levels are up
I tend to sweat a lot more than the average person(entire upperbody) but only when i exert myself(this is not a big issue for me though.)
I'm an active sports participant play soccer and gym.I took drugs for about a year(21-22) ecstacy, about twice a month.

Hot drinks will also sometimes trigger a flush.

I'm a happy person with a successfull slightly stressfull career.

I hope this is enough information, let me know if you have further questions.

What can I do about my red face, it is a confidence killer!

I think this is the appropriate thread for me to follow, for I am suffering from exactly the similar problem as Wills.
The redness of the face is probably more painful for me because it makes me totally self-conscious in normal situations also and makes me blush a lot(I blush more than normal). This is a real confidence killer.
The redness is localized to only the cheeks in my case and it is accompannied with warm feeling(almost throughout the day). Gets more red and aggravates with touching or rubbing. The warm feeling of the skin subsides in cold weather but not the redness, the redness remains and it mostly increases. The more self conscious I am about it the more it aggravates. This is like a chain reaction. More recently I have found that if I don't apply any skin cream to the face the redness is less(and so is the self-consciousness), so I just wash my face with soap as during bath and don't apply anything. This leaves the skin dry and the redness is a little less conspicuous, but the slight mentioning by someone of the fact that the face is getting red triggers the reaction and I blush like anything. This is really affecting my social life very much.
I just hope I am able to put it across properly.
Is there any medicine which totally confirms to my condition as per the symptoms. Any help would be really appreciated and I would be ever thankful for this help.
Thanks in advance

Hi Ashish,

I've managed to control mine a great deal since posting in this forum about 5 months ago.

A couple of things I have done.

Stopped smoking, I'm not sure if you do, but you'll be surprized how much benefit you get from that extra oxygen.

I went to a proper beautician and got them to run me through the process of proper skin care and spent quite a bit on skin care products specifically developed for men(Clarins).
This consisted of a two cleansers(exfoliating and normal) and an anti shine mosturizer.

I drink a lot of water.

This is all basic stuff but has made a huge difference!

I understand exactly what you are going through. It takes control of your life. I'm now in a position where i have not even thought about it for the last 3 weeks.

I tried the belladona for a while, unfortunately I could not get a strong enough dosage so I cant really cast any judgement on it.

Something will definitely work for you, just keep at it and don't be shy about asking for advise from the pro's who know......
