Attention Problem Causing Problems in College

My daughter was diagnosed ADHD when she was in 1st grade, she is now in college and it is causing her problems with her studies. I have two posts regarding my daughter, What after Stramonium and then Agrophobia prevents schooling. It seems as though we addressed her agoraphobia and she says she has transition to her new college well with college and friends. She called and is concerned because she can't focus when she is reading her books and she can't digest the material.

I know that we initially were trying to address my daughter's ADD and then due to a very specific event, my daughter's anxiety got the best of her and she was agoraphobic.

Can someone help me to understand where I go from here. Do we start off with Veratrum Album which is what Dr. Herscu had last recommended when we were addressing her attention and learning problems in school? Or do we need to reevaluate her needs altogether because she has been on my other remedies since due to her anxiety and agoraphobia?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
The case needs to be assessed carefully at this stage, because things do not remain the same for a person always.

I can take up the case, but will your daughter be willing to give her input. To make an accurate prescription, her thoughts words ideas feelings must be sought, not just someone else's interpration of them.

I do understand what you are saying. Can you let me know what she needs to answer and then I will ask her to provide me with her words. You do understand that she is only 17 yrs old and not always detail in her answers?

l471530 last decade
She still needs to try. I have many expressive teenagers in clinic - they just need to be encouraged without judgement.

Of course their words appearing in public like this may not be ok with her, so that needs to be cleared with her first.

I have just sent my daughter an email and have sent a screen print of our conversation. I will let you know what she says.

Thank you.

I'm not sure what happened but I received my daugther's reply the next day and thought I posted a screen print of her reply. Screenprints must not work and it rejected my update.

Subject: for mom

I don't know what I am suppose to say. I can't focus when reading cause my thoughts wander and the material does not get into my brain

My daughter is coming home for a long weekend (Fall break) and i'm picking her up tomorrow. I was hoping to have some remedy for her to take so I can be here for her to elicit initial feedback.

Is this possible?

l471530 last decade
Still not case to help me decide on a remedy though - or were you suggesting she could answer questions while she is visiting with you?

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Yes, I would hope you have some questions based on her history that may help to lead you to a remedy. She got home yesterday evening and will be here for two days and goes back on Saturday.

Please let me know ASAP. Thank you so much!

GUIDELINES FOR GIVING HOMOEOPATHIC CASE INFORMATION

It is important to describe all your problems in as much detail as you are able. One word answers and short sentences are not particularly helpful. Discuss each problem one at a time, providing (as a minimum level of detail) the following information.

Please do not answer each of the following questions by placing all your problems in each one. Each of these questions needs to be answered for each problem eg. For you headaches answer 1-7, then for your reflux answer 1-7 and so on.

1. What exactly happens?
2. Describe all sensations and pains. Each pain or sensation should be described in such a way that allows us to imagine having the same pain.
3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring?
4. What creates some relief for the problem?
5. What triggers the problem into occurring?
6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur?
7. When did the problem start? What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started?

Move from one problem to the next, doing the same thing. IT IS VITAL THAT YOU GIVE A COMPLETE PICTURE OF YOUR HEALTH BY PROVIDING ALL PROBLEMS YOU HAVE, EVEN IF NOT CONNECTED TO THE MAIN ONE, AND EVEN IF YOU CONSIDER IT OF LESS IMPORTANCE. You should address each problem separately using the above 7 questions as a guide.

As well as this, please describe any traumatic incidents that have taken place in your life. Discuss anything that has had a lasting impact on you mentally, emotionally or physically.

Discuss the way that you manage or deal with your problems, or any problems that occur in your life.

Discuss any patterns you have noticed in your behavior especially concerning your disease.

Discuss any part of your life where you feel stuck or unable to change and grow, especially where this occurred around the beginning of your disease, or as the disease evolved.

Describe your childhood and the kind of environment you grew up in, with reference to your relationships with your family, your school experiences, and any serious childhood diseases. Your parents may need to help you answer these questions.

If your earlier discussions have not mentioned these already, please describe:

1. The specific foods that you crave (not just like) or hate
2. The specific drinks that you crave or hate
3. What your sleep is like
4. How the weather and the temperature affects you
5. What kinds of things in the environment you are particularly sensitive to
6. What your general level of energy is like
7. What your level of sexual energy or desire is like
8. Describe your menstrual cycle

I will probably have more questions for you after that.

I also need to know what homoeopathic remedies you have taken in the past, and what the results were.

I will review with her and provide answers. I do wonder if you have looked at any of the previous posts that list past lifetime events and details. That is why I first opened this under one of them since they provide a lot of details.

Thank you.

1. What exactly happens? I try to read the books for class and I can’t remember what I am reading and then I keep on rereading. I also take notes and I just can’t seem to remember them.

2. Describe all sensations and pains. Each pain or sensation should be described in such a way that allows us to imagine having the same pain.

3. What causes the problem to get worse after it has started occurring? I don’t think it gets worse or better, it just prevents me from doing well on my tests.

4. What creates some relief for the problem? I try to take breaks but not sure if it helps.

5. What triggers the problem into occurring? Nothing.

6. What time of the day or night does the problem occur? All the time

7. When did the problem start? What was happening in your life at that time? Did some specific event or treatment take place just before the problem started? I think I have had this problem since I was young (1st grade). I had tutors and help throughout my school years and I even had a reading specialist for many many years. Since around 6th grade, I began reading a lot for enjoyment and still do. I can read a book in a few days but I am very selective in the books I like to read. Now I don’t have time to read for enjoyment since I am in college and have so much to read for school. Reading for school is much different and I struggle.

As well as this, please describe any traumatic incidents that have taken place in your life. Discuss anything that has had a lasting impact on you mentally, emotionally or physically.
Apparently my mother had difficulties delivering me, I don’t remember so not sure how traumatic, but she was on all sorts of machines with different drugs because of her contractions. She was rushed into the C-section room three times but I was
eventually delivered vaginally.

In school, I had to be pulled out for tutoring and taking tests…I hated that feeling like a was different. What did people think of me.

At approx.. 3 years of age, I did fall at my grandmothers and hit my head on a table. I had a hugh bump, both eyes were quite black and blue.
When I was in grade school, I had to get help for learning and I always remember hating to feel so different and pulled out of the class.

THIS I THINK ABOUT A LOT __ IT REALLY SCARED ME. In 9th grade I was at a large fair with a few friends and I passed out and feel right straight down on my face. My nose was bleeding heavily, I was taken away in the emergency vehicle all by myself. I was very scared. I began to have anxiety after this and was afraid to go out at all. I passed out several times after this but have not in the past two years or so.

Discuss the way that you manage or deal with your problems, or any problems that occur in your life. I try to deal with my problems on my own and try to hope they go away.

Discuss any patterns you have noticed in your behavior especially concerning your disease. Not sure

Discuss any part of your life where you feel stuck or unable to change and grow, especially where this occurred around the beginning of your disease, or as the disease evolved. My learning. I am told I have a very high IQ – 140 and I actually feel like I’m smart but I have always struggled in school. Even if I do well with homework, class participation and even quizzes, any comprehensive test, I struggle.

Describe your childhood and the kind of environment you grew up in, with reference to your relationships with your family, your school experiences, and any serious childhood diseases. Your parents may need to help you answer these questions.
When I was young, I never took more than a cap nap and I was not a good sleeper at night. I would scream when my mother would leave my room, no matter how long she tried to soothe me and comfort me. As soon as she tried to leave, I knew and would scream.

I was more timid, I wouldn’t say introverted but always seem to find one or two friends to be with…didn’t like the large groups. I always would tell my mom from the age of three – I just want to be free – and I’m still that way today. I like to make my own decisions, don’t like to be told what to do and want to be independent. I tend to live my as a spectator than an active participant. I played soccer up through 8th grade, then played 1 year of tennis. I don’t seem to have an strong interest other than T.V. and my close friends

In 3rd grade, at my birthday party, my mother did not let me go first hitting the pinnyata (as the host, I went last), and someone broke it before I even got up for my turn. I still remember it and remind my mother a few times a year. It’s like I have trouble forgetting things someone does to me that I don’t like…and I like to remind them of their mistake.

I tend to like to have TV or my computer on all the time…even when I go to the bathroom or take a bath, I take my computer and watch TV.

I don’t like people to feel like they can affect me. I am told that I don’t make good eye contact (even with my parents). I don’t like thinking that other people think they are better than me. I want to do well so I can earn a lot of money. With my parents, I like to get my way and when I don’t, I like them to know I am not happy at all… so they feel miserable. I tend to hang up on them when I don’t like what they are saying.

Even now, I am not a person who likes to hug or show a lot of affection. Even with the distant at college, when I see my family, I don’t get all emotional and happy to see them. It’s not that I’m not happy to see them.

If your earlier discussions have not mentioned these already, please describe:

1. The specific foods that you crave (not just like) or hate . I absolutely hate bananas even the smell. I don’t like mustard.
I like sweets, mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. I probably I’m not a very healthy eater and eat a lot of carbs.
2. The specific drinks that you crave or hate
Since I can’t get water down me, I tend to drink either soda or vitamin water which has sugar in it. I can’t drink milk of any sort.
3. What your sleep is like
I feel like I sleep well and need a lot of sleep.
4. How the weather and the temperature affects you. Rain and gloomy out makes me not happy.
5. What kinds of things in the environment you are particularly sensitive to
I’m not sure but I do know that the past few years, I like to travel and go away and that brings joy to me.
6. What your general level of energy is like --
Lazy kind of feeling, low energy level, all I want to do is sleep.
7. What your level of sexual energy or desire is like I have not had sex yet nor a boyfriend.
8. Describe your menstrual cycle
Bad cramps and moody, I do take birth control pills which help a little.

Sorry you should link any relevent posts - I cannot keep track of things here due to taking on so many cases. Linking to this post keeps it all accessible to me.

My intake form is different to the others used here though, so I would still get someone to answer those questions regardless of previous case taking attempts.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
How do I link them?

l471530 last decade
Go to the thread, then copy the url and paste it in a post here in this thread.

l471530 last decade
ah ok that second link I can now see has a lot of information in it, however that is now her old case. Since she was treated and apparently changed during that time, as I said earlier in this thread, things must be fully reassessed now to see where to go.

I would not feel comfortable prescribing on what happened in the past, but I can combine the new information here with the information there to see if a bigger picture is formed.

How are you making out? My daughter goes back today and I was hoping to have something to give to her before she leaves.

Thank you.

l471530 last decade
I'm sorry, I just wanted to be sure someone is working on this. Can I please have an update. Thank you.

l471530 last decade
Has she been given Nat-mur? There are a number of indications for that remedy here.

Nat-mur 200c would be appropriate if she hasn't.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
She definitely has not taken this because I do not have it. I will order it tomorrow.

Not sure if you noticed but Nat Mur antidotes Argentum Nitricum which I was asked to give my daughter after she was given Lachesis (see earlier link to Agrophobia prevents Schooling).

I remember that I felt like Lachesis had worked well for my daughter and was surprised to have to give her another remedy. She took it March 1 2011 and on March 8th I replied...

Per note on March 8th
It is interesting that she rarely discusses her changes with me but earlier today when she came home from school she started with a list of changes since she took the remedy. She said that she is craving sweets, particulary chocolate which she typically doesn't like. She said she has a headache and is much hungrier than she normal. She also thinks that her attention span is shorter.

I just asked her if she felt she has had any specific changes to her mental state, other than the attention span, and she said no. I specifically asked about her anxiety and she said no.

I can't say I have seen any differences.

End of March 8th reply.

Then on March 9th, the person asked me to give her Carcinosin 200C.

I also just wanted to be sure you realized that my daughter's memory problem is not a new problem. She was tested when she was in 1st grade and it revealed an issue with short term memory. Just thought you should know.

When I receive the remedy should I send it to my daughter to take at college or wait for her to come home at Thanksgiving? Also, how did you want me to give this to her....under tongue or diluted?

Thank you.

Antidotes are only relevent if a person is currently experience a reaction to a remedy. An antidote will cancel that out. It will have no effect on a curative or beneficial remedy taken in the past.

INSTRUCTONS FOR SPLIT DOSING

Firstly, you need to create a separate dosing bottle. Get a bottle with a dropper, 15-30mls in size, and fill it with a mixture of water and alcohol (5 parts to 1 part). Dissolve 2-4 granules or 2-4 drops of the medicine you bought from the pharmacy into this mixture. Your doses will be made from this bottle.

Hit the bottle firmly against the palm of your hand, or another elastic surface like a book. It should be a firm hit not a tap. 2 hits is enough to begin with, and should not be increased unless it is clear that it is needed. The water in this bottle will 'remember' the number of times you have hit it, so that subsequent doses will be stronger (necessary to overcoming the resistance of your disease).

Place 1 drop into an amount of water - start with 1/4 cup (62mls). Stir thoroughly and take 1 teaspoon into the mouth. Throw the rest of the cup away.

This is one dose. Repeat doses would be started from the 2 hits on the bottle.

Each step of this process can be adjusted to reduced aggravation or to increase the effect of the medicine. In order to be able to do this, it is important to measure each step (count the hits, count the drops, measure the water etc).

I would suggest she take one dose, the report to you the results a week later, and you can let me know how it goes.

Nat-mur people hold on to the past and find it hard to let go. Any hurt they experience remains with them for years, if not forever. They tend to want to be alone, shut themselves off from others, and don't express their emotions very easily. This can make them seem unemotional, but this is a front, because underneath they are extremely sensitive. They find it hard to share their feelings, because they are so afraid of being hurt or being rejected. Nat-mur is one of our primary remedies for depression, which I notice she has had in the past.

Interestingly, Nat-mur and Lachesis are considered to be complementary (even though their basic issue is completely different). Both of them can be mean, resentful, and full of feelings of revenge. Both of them will find it hard to forget any insult or harm done to them. Both can cut you off at a moment's notice.

The problem underneath is not at all the same though.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Okay. I have never given a remedy by adding alcohol. Can you tell me what you exactly mean by alcohol.

So it sounds like I will have to wait till either we visit her or she comes home for Thanksgiving to give to her.

I will keep you posted.

l471530 last decade
Any kind of spiritous alcohol is fine. I typically use brandy or vodka. Don't use anything with milk or cream added to it.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
The pellets come in 2 dram, 1 ounce or 4 ounce. Please advise.
Thank you.
