Thyroidectomy 1/4 lobe

One-fourth of my thyroid lobe was removed on one side. What is recommended for this?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Go and ask for it back! lol

What were your reasons for doing this?

They took the partial lobe to do a biopsy for cancer. It was not cancer, however.

Patsy,

Thank goodness your biopsy was clear of cancer! This is excellent news indeed! :-)

I am not sure what you're asking though. Are you still having thyroid problems? What are they? What do your doctors say?

I wish you the very best of health! :-)

Hi Orume! Thanks for your reply.

After they did the biopsy they put me on synthroid, levothyroxin. I have taken it for several years, but now I have decided to go off it and try homeopathic method.

I have trouble with depression, dry skin, dry hair, loss of hair and lack of energy. I went to the health food store and found a few homeopathic medicines but they just had some liquid drops call Thyroid Support. The ingredience is Active: Thyrodinum (Thyroid Gland) 8X; Inactive: Purified Water, 20% USP Alcohol.

I was wondering if there is anything else I should take with this or is this enough.

Hi Patsy, and you're very welcome! :-)

My first question is: Do your doctors know you plan to go off the synthroid levothyroxine?
This is very important -- homeopathic remedies may be able to support a weak thyroid, but I don't think they could take over for the prescription you're currently on.
The reason I say that is that synthroid levothyroxine is a replacement hormone, usually prescribed because the thyroid is either not functioning or barely functioning (as I'm sure you already know). Thyroid support remedies would support an active thyroid, but cannot take over for an inactive or barely active one.

Here's some info on synthroid for you, in case you didn't already have it:

With a health ailment of this calibur, it's important to communicate well with your health care providers and let them know your plans and *any* other remedies you're taking, including homeopathic ones.

Sorry, I'm sure you knew that already, but I feel it's important to say anyway. :-)

I wish you the very best of health! :-)

If you can find such a person, you would probably do well to locate someone who is dual qualified in both conventional medicine (MD) and in homeopathy. Or, failing that, one of each who are willing to work supportively with you and each other.

Getting a remedy from health food store and going off your regular meds all at once sounds risky. Some replacement hormones (or synthetics) shut down one's own glands (such as the thyroid gland), not necessarily permanently, but in such a way that tapering (and often careful monitoring) is required to get off them safely. In your case it is even more complex because you don't have a whole gland left.

Thank you Orume and Boditshe. I will consult my physician.

Hi Patsy,
tell us a bit about yourself- your mental state, likes and dislikes - food etc. Are you cold/hot, slim/round, etc.

I am not taking any medication of any kind.

Actually I feel great right now. I do not have any of the symptoms of hypothyrodism. My mental state is very good, my hair is not dry, and it does not fall out. My skin is not dry. I am going through menopause with light hot flashes occasionally. I am age 62. My shape is somewhat round and a little overweight. I have maintained the same weight for many years now. I like sweets more than I do salty food. I am not a chocolate lover. I like to walk and enjoy the outdoors, gardening, sewing, and learning new things.

I still work my full-time job and I sleep good at night; also, I like my job and being around other people.

I lost my pet of 18 years and that made me very sad.

If I get any unusual symptoms I will see my doctor. Thanks to everyone for posting a reply.

Hi Patsy,
sorry about losing your pet.
I lost a pet a few years back and was absolutely crushed, took a long time to get over losing him, still miss him now.
Have a great day.

I'm glad you are doing well with regard to the thyroid, you must have been lucky and the med. didn't turn off your own function. This should be inspirational to others.

And I'm sorry about your pet too. I lost two near each other and the only thing that helped me much was "rescuing" some others (lost 1 dog and 1 cat, and ended up with 2 dogs and a whole litter of 7 cats). It still hurts if I think about it much, and it is hard that often people don't understand how close special pets can be.

You are so right Bodhitshe. Our pets are a very important part of our lives. Hope your new pets ease your pain somewhat. I know they love you. Losses seem to stay in our minds forever, whether it be human or pet. It's just a normal process of life.

Thank you for taking the time to post me a note. I appreciate that.
