Help with potency

Hi everyone,

Just a quick query. I'm a newly qualified practitioner and I'm treating a patient with arthritis in his right hand. I'm prescribing Actaea Spicata, but I'm not sure about the potency. On the patient's wishes, I am only aiming to palliate the pain he feels in his hand. He has no wish for a constitutional remedy.

I either want to give him an LM remedy or a low potency centesimal to take every day. Can anyone advise me as to which is best? If I prescribed say 6x daily, could he continue to take it indefinitely?

Thanks for your help. My course was great but really classical and we didn't learn a lot about small remedies or low potencies!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Well, I am by no means an expert but I do know that LM's do not work for everyone (I know that from my own personal experience, plus my homeopath told me that she has noticed that as well). The first step I would think would be to determine if this is actually the correct remedy, i.e. give a low dose and see how the patient responds. After that, I'm not very good at deciding which potency is best, although I have read in several books that the lower potencies work best for physical symptoms while the higher potencies are best for the mental.
